Cold visit sales tips (1 Viewer)

I have been meeting with clients regularly since I came to Dallas although they were all set up through my inside sales team with clients we knew had an interest in temp labor.

This afternoon I am doing my first cold visits to some targets I've been scouting. Several warehouses and manufacturers.

Any tips for a new salesman from the masters?

Yes I will have my phone turned off when with the client.

My secret recipe to oh so sneakily get my targets to give me their secrets.

What are you using today? X

How long have you been with X?  Y.

What did you use before?  Z

Why did you switch? A,B,C

OH MY GOD THEY JUST TOLD ME WHAT WAS IMPORTANT TO THEM... can I check these boxes with products/services?  HOLY #### I CAN!  THIS IS IN THE BAG!

I once saw a hotter than hell pharma rep making waffles for a doctors' office.

That was amazing.  You should do that.

Read accidental salesman. Great book on how to sell.  Really helped me.

Spin selling.  Is another really good one.

What information has your "scouting" afforded you?
I just look around for companies with loading docks. I can pitch them truck drivers and warehouse personnel.

i look for construction sites to pitch laborers.

any places that could use blue collar staff.

Be honest and listen more than you talk.  Find out what they like in who they are using and what they don't like.  Find out what needs they may have.  Show them the value you can provide value to them (if you can meet their needs).

Don't be afraid to walk away with nothing because sometimes there just isn't a good fit and you don't want to waste their time or yours.

The best advice I ever got regarding selling was to be myself. If you try to be someone you are not, customers and potential customers will see right through it.

So, the best advice I got was "Be yourself!".

In this instance, I got nothing.

When you're starting a new sales gig it's all about volume. The more lines you have in the water the more likely you'll get a bite. Work on your pitch, obviously, but understand that a lot of sales is a numbers game. Just make contact and understand buying is a process. A lot of times sales happen because the person you've been stopping in to see every 5 months for the last year is finally fed up with their current vendor and decides to give you a shot.

I'm well aware not to be myself.

Driving around town looking for loading docks or construction sites is a horribly inefficient means of locating staffing leads, but I'm assuming you knew that.

Yeah, just sit at home with your VR goggles and drive around town in street view instead.

Yes but that's not the only way. My inside sales team handles most of the targets but if I have time I go out and look for more.

Not every company is listed on google maps.
