Jets | Team could move Coles

Sat, 2 Sep 2006 06:41:12 -0700

John Clayton, of ESPN, reports the New York Jets could possibly trade WR Laveranues Coles in an effort to upgrade their wide-receiver position. Clayton expects the Jets to be a very busy team this weekend.

Anyone else hear anything about this?

The Jets have reportedly brought Laveranues Coles' name up in trade talks.

The rumor comes from an odd source: PhiladelphiaEagles.com. Coles has complained a few times about new coach Eric Mangini but any deal involving their No. 1 wideout would be a shocker.

Rumors are he still hasn't gotten over the turf toe that's been dogging him the last few years.

The Branch to the Jets possibilities just heated up.

If they are looking to upgrade at WR, wouldnt they have to bring on back in a trade?

I hear Charles Rogers is available.

I don't see New England trading Branch in division. He is too young, even if the Jets suck.

I wouldn't put anything past the new regime - but I've got to think the only way they trade Coles is if Branch or a better WR is on the way - Mangini hates J MAc and Cotchery is just not ready to be a #2 WR let alone #1.

you don't think Cotchery can be an effective #2?

I think that Coles was who the Jets were talking about being involved in the possible Branch trade, when it was stated that they were willing to give a draft pick and "a pretty good player".

Coles is still an effective possesion receiver, but the turf toe has taken away his great big play ability.

I think this is nothing more than Clayton thinking out loud....."Hmmmm... let's see.... coles called the Jets camp brutal.... Mangini won't like that.... hey, maybe they shop Coles?"

I think he will be solid at #2. Mangini said that he loved the kid even when he was on the Patriot's sideline. Cotchery is also an excellent run blocking receiver which will keep him on the field. He's improved his routes over the past few years.

Coles to the Pats makes little sense now that Gabriel was traded there.

Or does it.

And who was the source for that Eagles site? Clayton, maybe? I put no credibility in these reports at all.

Coles isn't going anywhere:

Jets | Trading Coles looks like speculation

Sun, 3 Sep 2006 07:09:53 -0700

Mark Cannizzaro, of the New York Post, reports New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini shot down speculation the team was looking to trade WR Laveranues Coles. "Laveranues is a member of the New York Jets. I have said several times all the things I like about Laveranues and his toughness, which he shows week in and week out, his ability to catch ball in traffic, the things he does in running game," said Mangini Saturday, Sept. 2.

In any event, keep an eye on Cotchery. The coach has a Man-gini crush on the guy.
