i have had and helped a bunch of kids play college ball and i use free online video editors that i cant recall the name of now to make highlight videos and put them on youtube its free and easy to link to take that to the bank bromigoI am a long ways off from actually needing it, but can someone recommend a site (or does it vary by sport) where I can start uploading videos of my daughter's "greatest hits"? I want her to have a solid library of highlights starting as early as 8th grade to show progression. Or is this just a bad idea? I know the chances are miniscule for her to get noticed but I'm a hopeful dad.![]()
The first pitcher was downright filthy. How was the pitcher? Was he that good or was it just one of those days that happens sometimes?Todem Jr’s team got no hit by the #5 ranked team in D3.
At PT today one of the guys said "it is COVID day" I looked him like WTF and he said it is the 5th anniversary that the world went crazy. Crazy couple of years. It was the 5th anniversary of the night that will live in infamy the other night (Rody Gobert COVID positive and the NBA stopped, Tom Hanks COVID positive, COVID elevated to pandemic status, Trump travel ban issued, stock market tanked, etc.). It was also the last time our son got to play in an official basketball game. I watched the highlights of that game for the first time in years. It's not hyperbole to say that EVERYONE's lives changed after that.
As far as the game went, our son was double- and triple-teamed with regularity. I had forgotten how many assists he had that game, and he had a lot of other great passes to open guys that shots didn't fall. He only scored 12 points but had to have been close to a triple double. Twelve points doesn't sound like much, but the game ended 41-39 . . . so everything is relative.
His team tried their best to give the game away, as they were up by 10 points with under 5 minutes to go and allowed the other team to tie in the last minute. He went football mode, lowered his shoulder and drove to the rim, got mugged, and made his free throws. It was a frenzy after that, as the other team got 3 or 4 good looks to win or tie but couldn't get a bucket and everyone went into a state of euphoria (it was a home game).
Watching it at this point was very surreal. Haven't really seen any of the players, coaches, parents, or spectators since. It seems like a lifetime ago in an alternate universe. No one knew what was coming next. My son never went back to high school, our other son never went back to college, my wife never went back to work at her office, and we were just days away from the "15 days to slow the spread" press conference. Somehow, we all survived . . . but the post-COVID world is way different.
I put together highlight videos (hockey) of my daughter's play, and then uploaded them to YouTube. We also created a free profile for her on the NCSA website, but ignored all their calls regarding a "profile analysis" meeting and their hardsell salespitch. Everything they can do for you, your athlete can do for themselves with a little bit of hard work.i have had and helped a bunch of kids play college ball and i use free online video editors that i cant recall the name of now to make highlight videos and put them on youtube its free and easy to link to take that to the bank bromigoI am a long ways off from actually needing it, but can someone recommend a site (or does it vary by sport) where I can start uploading videos of my daughter's "greatest hits"? I paid them 2K when my son went into his Junior year of high achool.I sat through their pitch as I was curious what it was all about. We also created a free profile for her on the NCSA website, but ignored all their calls regarding a "profile analysis" meeting and their hardsell salespitch. You are right, much of it is all things that you can do for yourself like edit videos. I think there is some value there but not for the cost of it. If you have money to burn, sure, why not but most of it you can do your own or your child does on their own and find other resources to do it otherwise. There is some free stuff you can do on it and learn from though which i think is their hook to sell you. A few other resources I have found. I think each have basically the same kind of format of having a free profile and then try to upsell you. I have not jumped into these as much yet.
- SportsRecruits: Allows you to build a free student-athlete profile, research schools, and create highlight reels.
- BeRecruited: Provides a free profile option where you can display your athletic and academic information.
- University Athlete: Rsed by college coaches to evaluate student-athletes.
WOW!What a weekend. So my sons team travelled to the Virginia Mountains for a road trip.
They had a strong 10-5 series opening win on Saturday afternoon. Todem Jr starting in CF and moved from the 2 hole to the leadoff spot for the first time since he became an everyday player several weeks ago. He looked quite comfortable out in CF making many good plays in the gaps and again showing his coaches and teammates his versatility.
Then yesterday the team had a double header on his 20th birthday. The first game, first batter launches a bomb straight away CF and the kid tracked it down and made a ridiculous catch against the CF walk to take away at a minimum a lead off double, potential triple. The teams would go back and forth with us holding a 10-9 lead heading into the bottom of the 9th.
Well due to some Pinch runner and pinch hitter decisions in the top half of inning 9 my son was slid over to RF for the bottom half of the 9th.
Bases loaded, 2 outs another ball is launched to straight away CF but the CF (god bless
Him my son felt sick for him as that was one of his roommates on this road trip) stumbled twice trying to track it after taking a fatal step forward on contact and the ball ultimately sailed over his head for a walk off win for the home team.
11-10
The third and decisive rubber match saw my son moved back to his primary position at SS after the junior who played their in the first game of the double header made 4 errors and 2 of them were very costly and ultimately made a difference in the final score. Physical errors are gonna happen at all levels….but to have 4 and cost you 2 runs is tough (in conference play) and that will lead you to the bench sometimes.
My son led of the game with a mammoth shot to CF that hit the warning track and bounced over the wall for an automatic double. He would set the tone for the rest of this game.
Fast forward to the top of the 4th we held a 4-3 lead with two outs and none on. He would take the first two pitches for balls. Sitting on a 2-0 pitch and god as my witness I turned to my wife and father inlaw and said this is a great count for him to launch his first collegiate HR on his birthday.
And he did just that!!!!!
A no doubter way over the LF wall!!!
But wait there is more!!!
Top of the 8th we held a 7-4 lead, again 2 outs and no one on the first pitch he sees a 90 plus fastball he hits an absolute laser linedrive that just kept rising and gooooooone!!!! His second HR of the day.
We were screaming with joy in our living room….the elation was real.
Bottom of the 9th….8-4 lead, bases loaded, 2 outs.
A screaming ground ball up the middle…..Todem Jr lays out full extension and snares it clean and flips to his senior 2B from his stomach to end the game for a series clinching 8-4 win!!
Now that is a birthday to remember!
He would finish this game:
3-5
2B
2 HR
2R
2 RBI
For the series:
5-13
5 Runs
2 RBI
2B
HR
SB
BB
2 Sacs
HBP
For the season currently:
#2 in average .329
#2 in slug .462
#1 Runs scored
# 1 Stolen Bases
# 1 sac bunts
#2 sac flies
# 5 in hits
#3 in doubles
#1 in HR
#1 in OBP (.431)
#2 in OPS! (.893)
His hard work is showing in spades.
He has a lot more he wants to accomplish and the season is just past the halfway point.
Next weekend a big conference series on the road in Greensboro NC and then I am heading up to Cary NC with his summer coach to watch a 3 game home stand vs their biggest conference rival!!!
Sounds like he's in a pretty good spot!Went out to visit Gally Jr last weekend d to also catch a series. He is still redahirting so didn't get to play. His team when 1-3 and basically gave the games away. The fi al two games they combined to make 9 errors. The defense just failed them. In addition, the pitchers continuously got behind in the count and had way too many 2-out walks. I could see the frustration on Gally Jr in wanting to be out there.
Was able to talk to the pitching coaches and they are extremely impressed with his poise and demeanor. He isn't afraid of anybody and comes right at them (even the starting seniors - direct quote from coach). They see big things for him and while they can see his frustration being redshirted they think he will be better off with the extra year and are looking forward to working with him in the coming years.
Then at practice in Wednesday the head coach took him aside and td him he was a lot closer to playing than he thinks (to which Jr thought to himself I think I am ready now). He then asked him what his school plans were as there are only 6 weekends left of games. He asked if he was set of only 4 yrs of school or if he was open to longer. Jr thought about lying and saying he is only going 4 yrs because he got the feeling he would be brought up if he said that but decided to tell him the truth that he was planning on going for his MBA so being there a 5th year was likely.
It sounded like the coach was wavering back and forth on whether to burn the year or not. My guess is he stays as a redshirt now.
He also told him that to start the season Jr didn't have a role but as the season has gone on pitchers haven't performed and he has at practice which is why he is "closer than you think".
Good praise and looks like he has a path to being in line for next year (if not before). While it's been frustrating I think he will benefit down the road.
I predict he will be called up to get a taste and get some live game experience. Not enough to disqualify him to redshirt, but it sounds like he will get some playing time here really soon.Went out to visit Gally Jr last weekend d to also catch a series. From all we looked into it at D2 if he plays at all he cannot redshirt. I always thought there was a minimum you could play and still redshirt but once we actually looked into it....it seems any play time at all and you cannot redshirt.I predict he will be called up to get a taste and get some live game experience. Not enough to disqualify him to redshirt, but
Why does the timing matter? Seems like having the completion of the program is what matters and not when you do it.Not for nothing - he should talk to some others with MBAs. It would be a total waste to do it as your 5th year still more or less as an undergrad.
The job opportunities for someone with 2-5 years work experience + MBA are much better than 0 years work experience + MBA. Like a whole different class of job available. Why does the timing matter? Seems like having the completion of the program is what matters and not when you do it.

I have no idea about it and I would guess the field you want to get into matters to what is best.
He is majoring in business with an emphasis in sports management. He isn't sure what direction he wants to go with it mainly because he doesn't know what's out there. His school has a top sports management program so he should get more exposure as he goes through the program to see what he might want to pursue.
That's not really it LOL. It's that he doesn't gain the value of the program without the experience. In knowledge application or network. So he should omit the MBA on his resume until he has 2-5 yrs experience.....hahahhahaThe job opportunities for someone with 2-5 years work experience + MBA are much better than 0 years work experience + MBA. I am an engineer so an MBA really had no advantage for my field for the direction I wanted to go. Same with a masters. That's not really it LOL. No worries. I actually went into sports management and then into Management Consulting, though I do have a JD and passed the bar.I am an engineer so an MBA really had no advantage for my field for the direction I wanted to go. I would guess the career field has a lot to do with what path helps the most. If I remember correctly you went into law so I would guess those type of educational improvements (and where you get it from) probably matters a lot. Not sure that is as important in other career fields.. My hope is that his curriculum (which requires an internship) will help with what matters and what doesn't for what he eventually chooses to do.
All of this has been very insightful for sure. Thanks for the info. I will hit you up if/when he gets to a more aimed direction.
Played the 1 seed on a cold, misty day here (hot and windy yesterday)..Floppinha played up in an 8 game pro set L6 tourney today/tomorrow.
Started terrible. Serve, backhand, consistency... Everything a disaster, but kept it at 3-3 despite that. Then started to figure it out and play like she knows how.. 8-4 winner.
Played the #8 girl in CT next, who warmed up looking like a champion (Top 20 D1 tennis dad too). Went up 7-3 and then said she wasn't feeling well, ready to faint. Lost the next 3 games to go to 7-6 but dug in and pulled out the winner for 8-6 and into the semis.
Opponent in the semis had just beaten a girl that beat Floppinha in the finals of another tourney last summer. 8-1 spanking and into the finals tomorrow.
She did a lot really good things today, figuring out some adjustments while playing to give her an edge. Really proud of that, even more than her winning- shows she's growing as a player... All I want for her
Just found out about one more award he got:Just had the awards banquet for my son's high school soccer team - he's a senior and hanging up the gloves competitively speaking
Walked away with 3 awards -
- Defensive Player of the Year - this is a team award
- 1st Team All League - voted on by the league coaches
- League Defensive Player of the Year - voted on by the league coaches, and was apparently a unanimous vote
Definitely a very proud dad moment and a heck of a way to wrap up a career.

He made the Southern California High School Soccer Coaches Association 1st Team All-Star team. This is the equivalent of essentially being second team All-CIF-SS, so basically in the range of being named one of the top 30 high school players in California Southern Section. To give context, the southern section is made up of about 560 high schools and geographically covers pretty much everything south of Santa Barbara down to San Diego County and out to the Nevada/Arizona borders, other than LA City (which is it's own section)
My boy played what was probably his best game to date last night. If at all, he'll usually have 1-2 "flag pulls", but last night he had 3, one of which was a sweet pull on a school buddy of his, who he claimed "is the best football player he knows" (they play 2-hand touch in PE). The tackle - if you will - was for no gain. His coach was super fired up for the big play, which in turn made my son excited and me extremely proud.Quick update on my boy, who's entered his 5th (I believe?) season playing flag football. He started out barely having any athletic skill at all, and one of the slowest straight-line runners and change-of-direction ability to really coming into his own.
For the first few seasons, he played exclusively at linebacker, but as of last season the coach moved him over to cornerback. He prefers playing linebacker for some reason, but I told him to roll with it.
A few times a week he'll ask me to come throw him the football out on our front lawn. He still doesn't really like to play offense, but it gives me a lot of joy that he's taken such an interest in it and there's nothing like playing catch with your boy.
Update: The Kid (not really a kid, he is 24) with another 2nd round finish. This time by guillotine choke moving the record to 2 and 0. He has worked his rear end off and it is awesome to see his dedication paying off. His stand-up is way ahead of his ground game and his opponent was determined to try to get the fight to the ground. My son stuffed repeated take down attempts and then capitalized on a mistske making his opponent tap. Very much a proud dad at the moment.Took a while to recover from the shoulder surgery but he is back at it. He still coaches boxing and has gone to MMA. 1ST bout was last weekend. He won by 2nd round KO victory against a very good opponent who had his own share of combat sports accomplishment including all state wrestling multiple times. Let's go!Good news - Labrum not nearly as bad as they thought it might be when he went under; Bad news - the real source of the pain was a detached Biceps tendon. Good news - The tendon was intact and "just" a little inflamed.. Other than not being attached to his shoulder of course! The recovery on the re-attachment is actually quicker than a labrum repair so he has already started PT; Wild what modern medicine can do.So here is the update. It is not the best. Colorado did not happen. He had been battling shoulder pain since a bout last summer. We had shut him down for a few weeks and that seemed to help. We were thinking tendonitis or something similar. Shortly after posting this it was clear that something was not right. Rehab which did nothing so insurance will pay for the MRI. MRI reveals a partially torn labrum. Surgery two weeks from today and then 6 months of sling, rehab etc. Good news - it is a partial tear and expected complete recovery. Bad news - well this sucks all the way around.I have posted earlier in here, I think. Here is an update. My 22 year old son has been in various combat sports basically his whole life, from little kid Karate at age 3 on. He is now a national level boxer on the cusp of being ranked in the top 10 for his weight class. The ranking is based on 2 years of results. He only started boxing again 15 months ago after training a bunch of disciplines just to stay in shape and learn (basically 2 years away from just boxing) He goes to a national tournament in Colorado later this summer with a shot to get to the Olympic Trials. His 1st National Tournament he won 2 bouts before bowing out in a very close contest. Just proud of that kid and how insanely dedicated he is. #Flex
Well I have not posted in here since this last post.Heading up to Cary NC to watch Todem Jr play ball. And then again in two weeks. These are his last two home series of the season. They have 12 games left.
Season has flown by.
He is still kicking *** and taking names in his sophomore campaign.
Will report back.
amazing year! love hearing about this- thanks for sharing all of it.Well I have not posted in here since this last post.Heading up to Cary NC to watch Todem Jr play ball. And then again in two weeks. These are his last two home series of the season. They have 12 games left.

So let’s catch up.
Game one batting leadoff and playing CF he had a monster blast to the LF wall that just had too much air….we all thought for a second he was gonna be jogging around the bases for his 3rd HR.
Then he K’d two times. One on a horrific strike 3 call and the other was a 13 pitch showdown and the pitcher won as he went down swinging.
However his presence in CF was felt as he hosed a would be baserunner tagging from 2nd to 3rd firing a seed to his 3B that ine hopped right into his glove for the tag out.
We ended up losing that game 4-2.
Double header the next day and the kid was at SS both games and had himself a nice day at the plate going a combined
3-7
2 - 2B
3 RBI
2 R
SB
Both doubles were 2 out doubles andnone of them was on a 0-2 count punishing a hanging slider.
His 2RBI double in game two sparked a huge rally in inning 3 en route to a 5 run inning with 2 outs.
We swept the double header.
Welp…..the following weekend was washed out and rescheduled for Monday and Tuesday of last week.
Game one the kid went 0-5 in game one however he laced 4 balls….one was literally caught in LC over the fence…..robbed of a 2R HR, another was a diving lay out catch in LF robbing him of an easy standup double….probably a triple with his speed. The 3rd was a laser right down the 3rd base line that had to be 95MPH plus off the bat and the kid made a ridiculous play laying out and getting him by a half step.
The 4th was a laser linedrive right at the RF.
4 ropes with zero to show for it in the box score…oh baseball you can be so cruel.
Game two…..first AB a bomb to LC again caught at the wall. Thebwind was blowing in in this day….about 15-17MPH so if we didn’t have that…..my oh my.
Then his second AB it happened.
He hit a nubber in front of the pitcher towards the first base side, digging hard to beat it out he grabbed the back of his right leg and went down like he got shot.
You can imagine me watching this on the game stream……hamstring.
The great news is that it is only a grade one strain….and it’s been already a week and he is walking (not running) pain free, started his treatment yesterday on the stationary bike and pool.
The bad news is…..his season is 99% likely over. He missed thisbpast weekends game (I was supposed to go up and cancelled) amd this weekend is his final series of the season on the road and if they don’t win 2/3 they are out of the conference tournament for the second straight season.
He is bummed out to say the least. He was cleared to just throw at practice, no hitting allowed. No fielding. Just throwing and he can start light jogging Thursday and if pain free continue that daily.
He had such a good Sophomore campaign. His teammates love him and feel sick his season was just cut a little short.
His head coach has been texting him almost daily and is hoping that there is a small chance if they make the conference tourney he could be available to pinch hit if the situation calls for it.
In any case we are picking him up in 3 weeks if they don’t make the conference tourney and his summer will begin. Lots of rehab and rest thru May. Then he will be coaching this summer a 2028 High School showcase team (yes being paid too lol) and he will be in the weight room 6 days a week, cages 4-5 days a week, and in the field with me 2-3 days a week for live BP and fieldwork.
No throwing for 6-7 weeks at all.
He will more than ready for Fall 2025 and he is going into his Junior Season as the starting SS.
Very proud of this kid.
And also he will be an All Conference Scholar athlete for the second straight season.
2026 gials include being a 1st team All Conference SS and being a named captain as well as leading his team to a conference title. The coaches are active in the portal to bring in seasoned arms from the Juco level and catching to back up our senior catcher.
A highly succesfull Sophomore season. He is having the time of his life and has made some lifelong friends.

A strong second year. Looking forward to a huge Junior campaign.
Awesome that gets to travel with his team. That's got to feel great.Amazingly Todem Jr is traveling with the team today for their final conference/season series. He took BP all week, lightly jogged and threw. He is not in the starting lineup….god no. But is listed as a Pinch Hitter. He won’t be legging anything out if he is asked to pinch hit (all likely he would be asked to sac bunt a guy over if anything in a late game key situation).
He is just happy to be on the road with his boys. If they take 2 of 3 they will face the number 1 seed next weekend on the road.
He should be 100% healthy again in another 3-4 weeks and then he can begin his off season summer program.
It's tough to relax and hit when you are worried about being yanked if you don't get a hit. Small sample size of 2 AB's here or there never allows the hitter to get going. I feel for her.Last game she had a sac bunt and ripped a double down the line. Her 3 AB she gets pinched hit for.
It just doesn't make sense compared to last year. Even when she has a good game at the plate she gets PH.... It is what it is and as I said it could be worse just a tad frustrated when the "subs" aren't any better. But she's having fun overall and that's all that really mattersIt's tough to relax and hit when you are worried about being yanked if you don't get a hit. Without knowing anything about belljr's situation it's a small sample size and BA is generally not necessarily an indicator on the type of hitter. Plus some college levels would have .300 as not a great average. Not sure what batting averages are in college softball, but to DH for someone hitting over 0.300 seems... not great.
