QB Michael Penix Jr., ATL (5 Viewers)

Big fan. Would love to somehow see if the Vikings can keep him in Purple.

Caleb getting most of the love and talk, but I see a good fit in Minnesota.

As a fellow lefty… I’m also biased toward left-handed QBs.

I've heard countless people say that his medical evaluation will be the biggest factor in where he goes.

But this is the by far the lowest opinion I've seen anyone have on him and I do NOT agree. I can see some stuff, mainly medical, pushing him into round 2 but can't see him falling farther then that, this seems like a bad take to me but Tice is solid so I'll relay it.

I personally view Penix as a 3rd round prospect.Love the aggression that he plays with, but have hesitations about his anticipation, footwork and repeatable accuracy. That's before getting into age, medicals, etc.

Yeah. He was throwing it way down field and putting it where only his guy could get it or right in stride. In a game of college stars, I came away the most impressed with him.

Rome Odunz had a nice game and so did AD Mitchell. But my goodness at the Penix highlights that night.

I mean.....I'm an Oregon fan, but I have nothing but admiration and respect for Penix. I watched him tear up the Oregon defense 3 times, once in person. I know there's a knock on the Pac 12 defenses and some of that is earned, but there ARE some teams that can play a little defense and Oregon is one of them. Ask Liberty. Or Colorado. Or Utah.

But man, that guy was parking the football anywhere he wanted, dotting his WRs left and right. These aren't check-down, high percentage throws either. He is something to behold and I sure do hope he's as advertised at the next level. Arm strength and accuracy like his with an ability to throw on the run and extend plays is exactly what teams are looking for in the NFL.

If I'm the Vikings, I'm doing whatever I can to get this kid to Minnesota to play with Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson. Penix and his three 'sons'. Man, would that be something!

he's going to be bellichick's toy for the next 10 years.
he's not going past #2 pick, might go #1 when someone gives a bounty for the pick.

um, no. He's not going top 8. He throws a nice deep ball. And he is doing it behind a great OL that is giving him all day to do it. He has forever back there. It won't be that way in the NFL. There's a slim chance he goes at 10 if ATL stays put and the other 3 QBs are gone.

I'd be surprised to see him picked in the first 3 rounds.
He suffered season ending injuries in 2018, 2019, 2020, & 2021. He will also be 24 before camp opens.

NFL draft

there's absolutely no way you watch football and would be suprised at him going in the first 3 rounds.
he's an absolute LOCK for 1st round, likely in the top 15 and even top 10. Hell, top 5-6 wouldnt shock me.

Lombardi: "He's exceptional"
Baldinger: "You can't throw it better than he did. Perfect fit for Sean Payton"
Cowherd: "You don't draft for a fear of the floor. You draft for ceiling... You've got to draft Penix high."
Matt Leinart: "Michael Penix Jr. Making a case to be the top pick in the draft? As pure a thrower I’ve ever seen."
Michael Irvin: "Late round 1st? Are you joking? Are you joking? He's flying up the draft boards. The ball leaves his hand like it did Vick"

Round 3.

c'mon man... I get not loving him. Heck, I think Caleb is gonna bust, but I still know you have to take him mega high based off talent.

I think the medical evaluation will complicate things. NFL teams get real critical of that aspect. Not being able to finish 4 of his 6 seasons is a red flag.

Listen I get it... But he finished this season in perfetc health. Teams are DESPERATE for a qb. and this kid has mega talent. he's a top 15 lock, imo. by draft time, a top 10 lock

I disagree, but we'll find out.

It won't complicate it that much. NFL teams know about it already. It's not like a running back where previous knee injuries make you damaged goods. He showed good mobility in the Sugar bowl. He finished this season healthy.

I can appreciate the sentiment "maybe he falls out of the 1st round." Falling out of the 1st 3 seems almost impossible. He's 1st round in most mocks. 2nd round in a few I've seen.

I don't think the age knocks him down to a 4th round grade. Again, maybe 2nd. But I think 24 is young enough. A lot of guys are playing until 38 or longer. You've got a young man that can make all of the throws and can still get 12-14 years out of him.

I'll be surprised if he's not a 1st rounder. I'll be SHOCKED if he's not drafted in the 1st 3 rounds.

He will be a very good pro QB, lots of poise, really strong arm and downfield accuracy.
He’s a little stiff though. ;)
Don't be so hard on him.
And we thought the Heinicke endorsement opportunities were obvious. :oldunsure:

If I’m that dude’s agent, I’m on the phone with Trojan, Durex, Viagra, etc. right now immediately.
I can see the commercials now

"Don't leave your QB or your Penix unprotected."

Way better than the other QB in the draft class people are saying will go first, who puts his financial interests over the interests of the teams he plays for, sits out bowls, paints his nails, and is too soft to do pressers after losses. Give me a true gamer like Penix who wills his college team to wins over top ranked teams because he pours his heart and soul into the sport over Caleb any day. Those throws against Texas in the playoff game were elite and he put on a performance for the ages. He already has more bowl wins and playoff appearances/wins than Caleb (with much lesser supporting talent) and deserves to be the top QB selected in the 2024 draft class.

Let other real life NFL teams and fantasy dynasty teams waste their pick on Caleb’s fool’s gold and laugh when Penix falls to you.

You'll have to show me the Caleb WIlliams quote/comment about financial interests. Or wanting to have ownership in a team. Most of the things I saw were insinuations and guesswork by an instagram account trying to get hits. Nothing was attributed to Caleb (or his dad). just made up BS.

Yea he’s been hurt and he’s older but with the qb landscape there’s no way he makes it to second rd. Btw. These one liners will never get old.
