There may be some PTSD when evaluating Tennessee receivers, but I can assure Chris Brazzell II is different

6’5/205(e) with the ability to adjust his weight in the air and proves he is a pure bands catcher. Also runs a variety of routes as a high level.

One negative hard to get by is the fact he is a complete non factor after the catch.

But as a #2 or #3 option in a passing game, he has traits that fit.

Chris Brazzell II

Excellent deep ball ability and concentration. Finds ways to win in contested situations. Strong hands. Very high level athlete. Adjusts very well to the football.Settles well in between zones. Good strong hands. Good, explosive receiver after the catch. Good receiver through contact. High points the ball well. Ridiculous ability to secure catches through contact and from awkward angles. Excellent body control. Unbelievable athlete. Tracks the deep ball so well.

I know you are not supposed to scout the helmet but might it be correct to start scouting the system?

Getting hard for me to trust these Tennessee players transition to the NFL.

From a fantasy perspective; I think this is good for Nico. While his motivation to leave definitely seems to be money; the Tennessee offense is.... far far from a regular offense is the nice way to put it. Sure as a school they can (and do) find success with it in college, but I've found trying to scout and project college players from that system to the pros to be difficult. And in my experience, it hasn't gone well for a lot of them, what feels like more than average should be. It's what gives me pause on Sampson this year tbh, not denying his skills, but they are also hard to completely define when he's running behind a spread offense where the WRs line up about 2 feet from the boundary and half of all his runs he runs through holes the size of a pickup truck and gets to the second level before even being sniffed by a defender.

Quoted post I made back in April on Nico I leaving for USC; but pretty much my exact thoughts on Tenn. players and scouting them to the NFL. Despite having quite a few skill positions get drafted in the first 4 rounds over the past 20+ years; Kamara seems to be the only actual hit. And I believe Witten was a Vol when he was drafted in the early aughts.

Some college offenses translate well to the NFL based on their schemes and packages and what they are training their guys to do. Tennessee isn't one of them IMO. Doesn't mean their players are bad, even despite not a great historical track record pointed out above; but it does make them really hard to scout and project based on both metrics and tape. For me at least.
