Colston will play in week 4 (1 Viewer)

Saints coach Sean Payton said Wednesday that Marques Colston has been cleared to return from his fractured collarbone and will play in Week 4 against the Jaguars.

It appears Colston's "limited" practice Wednesday wasn't just a case of the Saints easing him back in. "He's clear. He'll be up this week," Payton said in a conference call with Jacksonville reporters. Drew Brees added that Colston's return is "huge" for New Orleans. "He's a big part of our offense. I'm excited to have him back." Colston's return will help Brees, but makes the Saints' pass-catching corps as murky as ever. The Saints initially were targeting a Week 6 return for Colston, so he's coming back two weeks ahead of schedule.

You're crazy if you start him. Much better to see how much he is used. Lance Moore was "ready" in week 2 but only played 15 snaps. Colston IMO will be a decoy. Broken collarbones take a lot longer than 2 weeks to heal. One direct shot and he could be lost for 2-3 months if he re-injured it.

Yeah, definitely waiting till he produces to put him back in the lineup. Still, it's great news.

I'm holding my breath every week now, he is my favorite player in all of football, but man he is a china doll now.C'mon Colston, eat your Wheaties and stay healthy. Colston should produce large in this offense if healthy.

I'm going on record saying there is no way Colston actually plays this weekend. This is a championship caliber team that's winning without him. There is literally no sanity in him playing this weekend. No chance.

To be continued I suppose...

Shhhhhhhhhh, don't tell my opponent !

So I take it if he is back then that will take all of meachems value away?
I don't think you can even predict who he will take away from. Moore was out when he was in before and Henderson had big games. Moore is back and was playing the slot and had a big week, Henderson not so much. I think Colston eats into everyone's looks but who might blow up each week will vary.

ESPN's John Clayton says that Marques Colston (collarbone) will play Sunday, "it's just a question of how much will he play."

Colston was originally targeting Week 6 to return, so he's way ahead of schedule. That could lead to a package of specific plays, likely in the red zone. Regardless, Clayton's injury reports need to be taken with a grain of salt; he also swore up and down that Arian Foster would likely play in Week 3. We're expecting the Saints to shed more light on Colston's status following today's practice.

It will take some value from both Henderson and Meachem, less so Moore.
This.Still, I think this week you can start these guys without worry because I agree with the poster above who says this is a smoke screen and there is no way Colston plays meaningful snaps this week. The risk/reward just doesn't add up. It IS good news for Colston owners though--that he will be back sooner than later and that his recovery is going well.

An full Colston recovery puts a dent in the plans for the Henderson/Meachem/Moore owners. One of those three gets skunked weekly in the feeding frenzy for targets when Colston is healthy. But the worst part about it, is you won't know which one.

Good Lord, this is nothing short of amazing. A three freaking week return for a broken collarbone!?! Wow.

I need him, but I'm gonna be the first to say that this was a phenomenally horrible idea.

Think a healthy Colston impacts Graham more than the WR's, especially in the red zone. But, wow ... what a bevy of weapons Brees has at his disposal ... can ya blame him for spreading it around so much/

Tough to believe he's really ready to start but definitely encouragin

I've been holding to both Colston and Henderson and by next week I need to get rid of one of them so hopefully this weekend will give me some insight into that.

I picked up Colston from the WW in my 12 team auction league. I was stunned! I didn't even know he had been dropped. :excited:

Brees favoorite target in the redzone is Colston, its why Meachem and Moore got the targets in that position when Colston was out.In the Redzone watch for the slot post, its what Moore scored on last week, its also the one Colston got hurt on. They like that play in the later part of the game.I would wait to play Colston until next week, he will be worked in just like Moore was 2 weeks ago...then he will have a welcome back party next week.

In my 10 team league, Colston is FA.
In my 12-team league someone dropped him in week one after his injury was diagnosed as a 6-week injury. I quickly scooped him up. I can't wait for him and Austin Miles to get in my lineup along Calvin and DJax. :excited:

Shocked they bring him back so fast. Good high hit and he is gone for the year but then again they have many WR's :boxing:

Any thoughts on Colston going forward? I know he didn't do much this past week.

I just received a trade offer to receive Colston in exchange for Vernon Davis. Vern is sitting on my bench every week because I have Jimmy Graham. The thought of having a healthy Colston next to Graham is intriguing. I'm not asking if I should accept the trade. I'm asking if there is any reason NOT to. Do we think Colston will be fine?

Looks like the Professor got it right this time.

cool story, bro.

What did Moore do his first game back? 1 catch for 6 yards.

What did Moore do his second game? 9 catches almost 90 yards, a TD and two 2 pointers. (Started in the slot for Colston)

What did Colston do his first game back? 1 catch for 8 yards.

What will Colston do his second game back? We will have to wait...but I am a huge believer that Colston is a big part of this passing game, as a decoy, and a pass catcher. The slot post is Brees favorite play in the redzone, add that to the fact that Colston is Brees favorite WR and their chemistry is great.

I think people will regret not putting him back in the lineup.

It gets cooler. I threw in Fitzpatrick and got Larry Fitzgerald instead. :coffee:

Who's the threat to Colston's snaps/looks this week? Seems odd that Meachem/Henderson got so many more snaps than Moore last week who is supposedly healthy and Brees' favorite pet. Hard to tell what's going on with that passing game. Guess Graham is the only sure thing...

Saints coach Sean Payton announced Wednesday that Marques Colston (collarbone) is "fully healthy," and his role will increase going forward.

"His role was limited last week but you will see his role increase," said Payton. "He is fully healthy." Colston was limited to 20-of-81 offensive snaps in Week 4 (24.7 percent), but he's going to be a full-time player soon. After turning in a full practice Wednesday, Colston is on track to regain his starting job. The Saints face the Panthers this week. Colston is probably now the best bet for production in New Orleans' wide receiver corps.

I'm just afraid that Graham has taken over the Colston dynamic in this offense.

Moore is the small quick guy, Henderson is the deep threat, Meachem is the screen guy. Colston was the possession receiver, over-the-middle guy but Graham seems to have taken over that role now. Given that Colston has dropped a significant amount of passes over the last couple seasons and seems to have lost a step I wonder how much he really is worth now.

Ummm, how many games has Colston played at full health with Graham this year? I'll answer that....1Hardly enough for any talking head to fairly judge the impact. Graham is good, but the offense is no different, Colston is Brees boy. tThat wont change until Colston is unable to perform, and when healthy, he does.

Might be true, but that's a hellava assumption. Graham is more of a mismatch than Marques and is going to steal a lot of redzone looks ... that and a bunch of knee surgeries, including a microfracture this offseason, and none of us know where Colston is going to wind up in terms of looks and production.I think his return probably does more for Brees and the Saints than anything.

I'm glad to hear he is supposedly healthy, and I'd expect him to jump back into his traditional role (eventually), or something pretty close. That said, there aren't any receivers that are really "Brees' boy," imo. He might lean on Colston a touch more than his other options, but like Rodgers in GB, he spreads the ball around a ton and takes what the D is giving him. If they are covering Graham with a LB or a much smaller S, guess where he is going to go. If Henderson is getting a lot of man coverage with no help over the top, then he'll get some good looks deep that day. Etc. etc.

Anyone starting him this week? Considering it because of bye week issues, but his statline last week worries me and who knows if playing more snaps means 50% of them or 90% of them

Someone in my league dropped him after he got injured and he's been on my bench ever since waiting till he was ready. Now AJ is out so I don't have much choice but to plug him in right away. But is there any reason to think he won't be playing a full game? Coach said he's fully healthy. Seems to me like he should get back into the swing of it this week.

Yeah, I did about 15 latenight drafts on ESPN that were basically mock drafts for me. I think at least 5 teams dropped him after week 1, scooped him up in all of them, and I have bye week issues or crappy WRs in at least half those leagues.Payton did say that, but Im not sure how much healthier he got in the last 7 days that warrant his snaps going from 25% to almost every snap.Either way, Im almost forced to start him in most of these leagues. Id feel more confident if this was week 5 2010 when I knew Graham wasnt going to be such a target muncher as well.
