Colt McCoy (1 Viewer)

King of the Jungle

I have been shocked on how well Colt has performed since starting as I would have bet the farm that he was not cut out to handle the NFL. He certainly has a long ways to go but I came away impressed looking at his YouTube (all passes versus NE & Pitt). Although he rushes out the pocket a little early at times he does have good mobility and has shown excellent accuracy (particularly on short and mid range passes). He does not have an elite arm but when he steps into it he can make all of the throws.

If he continues to progress he will be difficult to pry away from an owner so now may be the time to go after him. However I was looking for some opinions on him and what upside he presents. He has obviously been helped by the rushing attack but his receiving options leave a lot to be desired. His teammates seem to rally around him and his leadership has been praised.

What are some takes of those that have seen most of his snaps?

Great leader who still shows some bad habits that he had at Texas. Always scrambles to his right when pressured and makes to many throws off his back foot. I also question whether he can withstand the rigors and punishment that an NFL qb must take for 16 games. He also right now has no explosive weapons to utilize on the Browns current roster.

The fact that he's managed to be a mid-pack NFL starter for four games as a rookie against pretty good defenses without having a single NFL starter-quality WR to throw to is actually a huge point in his favor IMO.(I believe he ranks about 16th in terms of defense-adjusted, adjusted net yards/attempt.)

Now that teams have some tape on his tendency I think he will come back to reality.

He seems to be in a comparable position as Sanchez was as a rookie with a strong defense and a good running game to fall back on. IMO he looks a lot more poised and accurate than Sanchez did as a rook. He certainly doesn't have the elite physical features you like to see but if Cleveland can get some weapons for him I wouldn't shrug off his relevance. I am not saying I am a believer but for what his value his I think it is worth the discussion for dynasty owners looking to add young/depth/upside to their QB position.

NFL Colt > Fantasy Colt . . .
:goodposting: Although this could be subject to change when Holmgren brings in his own weapons at WR. He will never be a super star but with capable weapons I think he could be a solid backup in dynasty within a year or two.

I have he and Bradford on two dynasty league rosters on another I have Tebow as well. Not sure if I ever had a rookie QB before or had 3 QBs on my roster before. I have never been so impressed by three QBs in college football in the same year.

Skills-wise I felt like Colt was a step beneath Bradford but knew how to win more. Browns are winning. Rams are far better this year. These two have had major impacts even if it's the team adopting a can-do attitude. I think it's incredible given that 90% of the WRs both of them throw to wouldn't play for other NFL teams. Bradford-can't say enough about.

I think Colt's (and the Browns) success shows that he played against elite opposition in college, puts the time in to learn and the NFL game doesn't "throw him" because of that.

I've heard criticism of him for a few years now and I gotta say that those that criticize are usually the ones that lose to him. Only runs to the right? Yeah go ahead and gameplan on that. That is so weak. Short to intermediate throws most often, well where are his WRs getting open? Bradford can make every throw and Laurent had like 5 catches for 19 yards one week. These guys can hit the open man, there's no doubt about that.

BTW I say just put Tebow in. I don't care about any of the other stuff I've read and Orton...despite how well he did his name is still Orton.

These three aren't typical rookies at all IMO. I think DCs expected them to be. There were some good quotes from Steelers and some of the other teams stating as such. I agree with the let's see what happens now that they have tape on them thinking. When DCs give Colt some respect then we'll see what he's got. Expecting him to fail and make mistakes, like some gameplans seem to, is just plain foolish. Might as well consider it he's got 2-3 years NFL experience and make your gameplan as you normally would.

Avoid. You can only go so far in the NFL on leadership and moxie. Granted, you can have a cannon for an arm and still be a failure (plenty of examples), but in my opinion to be a successful FF QB you need the tools.

Which tendency?
