Commish Issue - Consolation Bracket (1 Viewer)

A few seasons ago, my dynasty league decided to implement a toilet bowl (week 15-17) for non-playoff teams to determine who gets the #1 pick in the rookie draft. We set it up so the two worst teams get byes in the first round. Additionally, we gave a few points of "home field advantage" to the worse ranked teams playing in the first round. The first year of this setup was in 2008 when the rules were applied properly. Last year, I didn't give the teams home field because for one reason or another I didn't double check the rules on the tourney.

Now earlier this week, I got an email from an owner who is in this bracket and he asked me if there was home field advantage in this bracket. I looked back at last year (when it was done wrong) and saw no home field so I responded that we didn't have it. However, on Sunday morning I double checked and saw that I had actually made the mistake in 2009 and I added the home field points for this week. Now of course, the outcome of week 15 depends on whether the home field points are given. The owner who emailed me ends up on the losing end if the home field points are added. He is arguing that by the fact that no one disputed last years results, that it set precedent of not having home field and there should be no home field this year. I'm saying that just because I made the mistake last year and no one caught it, I shouldn't have to keep that as a rule change going forward.

What are the shark pool's opinions of this?

Stick with the written rule. Screwing up one call doesnt make it no longer a rule.
This. In my league, every owner is responsible for knowing the rules. Mistakes get made, but that's ok since I dont collect a paycheck. Most owners lay all the fault on the commish, which usually isnt fair. You have to tell the owners to check for themselves to be sure on almost every call.
