My league switched this year to a salary cap auction. Rosters can be 16-18 players. We included a rule stating if a team had less than 16 players during games, then the team would forfeit his matchup.

A team currently has only 14 players and the pickup deadline has passed. He called me and plead his case and said it was an honest mistake and wanted leiniency. I have put it to a league wide vote and am currently awaiting feedback.

My question, how would you fellow commish's have handled this? There are obviously 2 schools of thought...one being the rules are the rules and tough for him, and the other is that this is a hobby and should be for fun.

I think you need to give some more details.1. What advantage does he have by having a smaller roster?2. When is the pickup deadline? Seems to me if the penalty was going to be that severe, people should have at least up to kickoff on Sunday to fix. From time to time people have had temporarily had illegal rosters (guys on IR who have status switched). With the inury report coming out Friday evening it seems to happen more this year. As long as they fix it in a timely fashion, I have allowed it. It is rarely going to impact their starting lineup. From what you have told us so far it seems like the penalty does not fit the crime. I fall into the camp thats its a hobby. And one forfeit can mess up an entire season.

what an incredibly stupid rule. you should eliminate it in the offseason.

it seems pretty black and white though. This is precisely the situation the rule was written for, you have to enforce it.

There is no wrong answer, but there is a wrong way to handle it. Make a decision and stick with it. If evverything is going to go to a league-wide vote...who needs the commissioner? A weak figurehead can be worse than nobody. If you think rules are rules...he takes the loss and that's it. If you think it's not a big deal, make the call and let him get back to the appropriate roster size. It's not Sunday at 6 p.m. It's well before the games have started, so nobody is thinking they won when they really lost, etc. The "best" decision depends on the kind of league you have, but I think the commish should make this decision themselves. :pickle:

Rules are rules. Its week 9 and the coach has had plenty of time to understand them. Being leinant with league rules opens too many doors for a commish to deal with in the future. He should also understand that. The job of a commish may be to interpt and record rules, but not to bend them. You shouldn't compromise or burden the other coaches.

I have never seen a coach quit because a commish asked everyone to stick to the rules, even when they are dumb rules.

So here it is Saturday night, and he already has to accept the fact that he loses tomorrow?

Stupid rule.

So much for having fun

The rule was already put to a vote to ensure people put their lineups in right? If you put it to a vote you'll be voting

everytime someone breaks this rule and other rules you have.Enforce the rule,he gets a L.

I don't think this is a good rule but for this season you should stick with it.After all you guys did vote it in.

Hey Mods/Joe

Why is this thread still active? It seems very specific to a specific league. A fascist should at least be one thing: consistent. Get your act together boys.

Come on, man. Please do not go down this road. Not good to urinate in the Pool.

The games haven't started yet. Do you prevent owners from acquiring players on Saturdays? If so, then you and your league suck.

Just a heads up before the SPNinjas come in and cut you but this is probably an Assistant Coach's post.
I think all commish Qs should beI mean they're not "NFL talk" and somewhat like my league is so important that the 100k+ visitors here should weigh in
ok, I stand corrected in the other thread, then.I wonder if it would be possible to delete people's posts where they reply to a topic by listing off who's on their team or what their record is.

I always just figured the mods got enough to worry about moving threads that when it comes to deleting posts they might like to oblige here but they just wouldn't have enough time. Not sure how true that is, just what I figure

heh...that was mostly just wishful thinking --- that'd wipe out 90% of the posts.
