Computer nerds, need some help (1 Viewer)

So I let my anger get the best of me and pounded my fist on top of my laptop breaking the (arm inside) hard drive. Our IT guy took the disc out and was going to implant it into a new HD case but just doesn't have the time. He mentioned that there are disc readers. The disc is out and I'm wondering what kind of reader I'd be looking at buying.

Any help would be appreciated.

So the HDD is in its case?

Is it sata?

You can get a sata to usb
He took it out of the case and tried to  put it in a new case, but if memory serves correct, he tried it in a triple? case, but mine was a double? I don't recall it's been so long.

We tried the external HD cradle route but the HD arm was damaged inside and nothing could read it. He took it apart and found the arm inside was busted.

I don’t think you are really supposed to open the platters outside of a clean room environment. I think you are probably looking at sending it off to a data recovery specialist place and shelling out $$$.

I don't think you've ever seen Mr Pack's office.   Spotless.  You could eat off of those floors.

Any IT guy that would open a hermetically sealed mechanical HDD chassis to repair it is either trolling you or a moron.  If the HDD was in a laptop, it’s probably solid state in a chassis or simply a chip plugged into the motherboard.

Regardless,  to access the data you remove the HDD from the PC and attach it via USB, as suggested above, assuming the IT guy has the correct interface HDD to USB.

If the data is still unreadable, there are 3rd party specialists that you can send the HDD and they will perform data recovery on your HDD and send your files on a thumb drive.

How long ago are we talking about?  Damn, you've got to hit it pretty hard to break the arm inside a hard drive.  Was the exterior of the HD case broken, or was it just making bad noise and your IT guy said the arm was broken?  ETA:  I guess you could define "broken" as an arm being out of alignment or one of the read heads scraping on a platter.

I agree with others that say you need to send it to a data recovery service if drive has a physical mechanical problem.

Didn't break the computer, just hit the damn thing pretty hard with my fist. Stupid companies putting the HD right under the easiest place to hit it for a rightie.

:bag:

I called a local place with a clean room, dude said around $600. Hell no, I'll try doing it myself in my den
