Conceptual Question on Backup Receivers (1 Viewer)

Who would you rather have on your roster at your backup WR spots?

#1 or #1A receivers on bad offenses or offenses where the TE or RB is the lead receiver (Massaquoi, Crabtree, Heyward-Bey, Louis Murphy, Sims-Walker come to mind) or #3 or #4 receivers on explosive offenses (Gaffney, Henderson/Meachem/Moore, a Breaston type when AZ had Fitz/Boldin)?

In a very deep league (16 teams) and year after year seems I never figured this one out yet.

Or am I looking at it wrong and should be basing pickups on targets and not so much where a WR is on the depth chart?

I, personally, prefer #1A receivers over #3's and #4's like Gaffney because I find it much easier to predict a good game for a spot start down the road. Players like Gaffney drive me insane, constantly blow up on my bench, and then single handedly lose my game for the next week with a stinker. Too good to be true.
