Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (1 Viewer)

Going to see Janes Addiction next week. Last time I saw them was 1991 Lollapalooza, Waterloo Village.
That's a long time between shows, and I'm old af
Would love to see Love and Rockets again after all these years opening for Jane’s, but I have another show the same night out of town.

Saw some cover bands at an event billed as "Fillmore on the River", as in Ohio River. Two Grateful Dead cover bands, which were decent, and an Allman Brothers cover band (called the Almond Butter Band) who were fantastic.

Lot of old, a little new. Saw Def Leppard and Journey this past week. DL sounded way better than I had feared.

And catching The Eagles at the Sphere in December (as a replacement show for my trip to see Aerosmith - tour cancelled).

As for the new, planning to see Mk.gee in September
Which date in December? I’m there the weekend of the 6th. Seeing Chris Stapleton/George Strait and Garth Brooks that weekend and am now contemplating the Eagles that Friday night

We’re seeing the Eagles on Friday the 6th!

I'm at Steve Miller Band, Journey and Def Leppard tonight at Target Field in Minneapolis. Perfect night.

Steve Miller Band opens. Mostly miss with some cringe moments. But then, he tells the story how Les Paul is his godfather. Anyway, cool story, and they end up finishing with Jet Airliner. Not the biggest fan in general, but that brought the house down.

To hear the opening riff of that song live and in person was a special moment. Iconic. Happy to see that before they and I die.

Journey up next, who I'm much more excited about than Def Leppard.

Bam! I may go but at a minimum let’s grab a beverage that weekend! I just saw the Eagles earlier this year but I want to get to the Sphere

Are you staying at the Venetian? Not sure of our itinerary yet, but maybe post show drink at the hotel bar would work for you?

It's not possible that this Phillipino could be this good. Faithfully and Open Arms were two of the best performances I've ever seen in my life. And I've seen probably 200 concerts. My expectations were impossibly high, and Journey has blown them out of the water. Neal Schonn is like 25 on guitar. And this singer is one of like three people in the history of earth that could pull this off. Perry, Mercury and this guy. That's it.

Unbelievable.

Don't Stop Believin' may not be the greatest song ever recorded. But I'll say this. And this is indisputable. There's no song better than it.

Stairway to Heaven
Under Pressure
Don't Stop Believin'

That's the list. And it's a tie for top 1.

Def Leppard and Joe Elliott. Oof. That's unfortunate.
Mass exodus. I actually feel bad. Embarrassingly bad. Place just emptying out five songs in.

That’s interesting. At our show in Houston, most of the fans were there for DL. Ratio of merch being worn or bought was probably 3-1 DL. And while he is no Arnel, I thought Joe sounded pretty good - I was expecting him to be unable to pull it off. That said, I did HATE HATE HATE, the acoustic break at the front of the runway stage.

He’s pretty weird on stage, but his vocals are indeed spectacular. No way Perry could pull off today what Arnel does. And Neil Schon is one of the top solo writers in rock history IMO. The melodies and musicianship are incredible - up there with Gilmour.

We only caught about a third of the Steve Miller set. I had never seen them before. What cracked me up is that Steve Miller looked like a C Suite executive, or a banker who would foreclose on your home. I expected him to look like a hippie and he’s playing in a sport coat like he is on the way to a fundraiser at his high end country club.

Def Leppard and Joe Elliott. Oof. That's unfortunate.

When Joe just sang in what I guess I would call his regular voice, it was fine. He did that on the last two of the night - Hysteria and Pour Some Sugar on Me.

But minus the short acoustic set you mentioned, he just shrieked his way through the rest of the night. He was trying to hit some register from yesteryear that he can't do. And it was on full display for most of the songs. Maybe he's never been good live. No idea.

And I get it, it's an '80s glam rock band. That's why I'm there. I grew up with it. But the two guitarists looked like Siegfried and Roy out there. :)

Ha, Collin and Campbell looked worlds better than pot belly Schon with his terrible dye job!

We are staying at Mandalay Bay, but it doesn't matter. We'll meet up for sure. Still may go to the Eagles as well. Looking now

I heard the same thing - that DL was the one killing it in this lineup

Looks like this past Sunday had Stone Temple Pilots, Live, and Soul Asylum playing in LA. Sadly I missed it.

Taking my 15 year old and her friend to Olivia Rodrigo tonight.
She has some 90s angsty girl rock vibes that I like, so it should be fun.

Took my 15 year old to this one last sunday

Eyehategod
Exhorder
Hans Condor
Self Absorbed

Wasn’t really in my wheelhouse but small shows are fun (I think capacity is 300 and I don’t think it was sold out). He had fun getting in the pit, there was some pretty big dudes in there so was definitely worried he was going to get smacked around

Also have this song stuck in my head now

Show was actually pretty good. The crowd energy was amazing. They blew the roof off the place when Chappell Roan came out to sign a song with Olivia. My 15 year old and friend loved the show.

Also, The Breeders opened. Yes, the 90s rock band. Nice surprise.

Bush/Jerry Cantrell/Candlebox last night. Candlebox was surprisingly good, kept the set short and to the well known songs. Jerry was solid, did half solo and half Alice in Chains songs which was a highlight. Bush was solid as well, but Gavin's voice did not seem to be the best, especially early in the set.

Live/Stone Temple Pilots next week... Setlists look pretty good imo.

Saw Smashing Pumpkins and Green Day on Thursday. Rest of my family, especially my son, are Green Day fans. I was more excited about Pumpkins.

But wow did Green Day put on an awesome shoe. Billie Joe was great. I really thought the Pumpkins sounded bad. This is the second time I've seen in the last 5 years and I have been unimpressed. I feel like I'd prefer to just listen to the studio albums, and I never feel that way.

My wife and I went to a local brewery for the food trucks last night for dinner. A couple approached us and asked if we wanted free tickets to a local “arts center” that night to see Get the Led Out. Their friends canceled at the last minute.
We decided to go, wth…if they suck we will just leave.
Well let me tell you….they were AWESOME. If any of you are Led Zeppelin fans (who isn’t) and these guys come to your area I highly recommend you check it out. Unreal

Only 41 more days left before my Opeth concert on the day their new album releases. :tebow: Its been quite awhile since ive been this excited to see a band in concert.

Crowded House was awesome in St. Augustine Thursday night. Well worth seeing imo.

Not sure if anyone here is a Pylon fan, but their reincarnation, Pylon Reenactment Society, has been doing some shows lately. I couldn’t make their show in Orlando last night despite being a short drive to the venue from where I was staying.

By happenstance, I saw Animal Liberation Orchestra while I was in Steamboat Springs on a dude's trip. ALO, formerly known as D'jango, was a band I saw many, many times in college while attending UC Santa Barbara. I was able to pull aside the lead singer when he visited the "t-shirt booth" after the show. At the time I didn't realize ALO = D'jango otherwise I would have said more. I just told him that we went to the same school at about the same time, got a quick pic and went along my way.

They were great. They play a lot with Jack Johnson (who I also kinda "know" from UCSB).

Of course I had hit the trifecta while at the show (booze, bud and shrooms), which made it a million times better.

Good times.

I’ve been off the board for a while, but this late Spring/Summer I’ve seen (all in Asbury Park):

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
Steve Forbert
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead
moe. / Daniel Donato’ Cosmic Country
Galactic

Red Hot Chili Peppers / Ice Cube - @Hard Rock, Hollywood FLA.

Upcoming:
Sea Hear Now festival (Bruce as second day headliner)
God Street Wine

Got pit tickets tonight with our 11 yr old. He's a huge Green Day fan. Dad will get an extended beer break with other dad's making the trip during the Pumpkins set. Saw them ~10 yrs ago and they were awful. Looking forward to Rancid though.

Not feeling 100% so decided not to head to DC for Peter Hook and the Light tonight at the 9:30 Club. If anyone is in the area and wants to go, let me know and I can give you my ticket. It’s sold out.

HUGE stroke of luck! I had Chevelle tickets for earlier this month in which the show was postponed until last night. I was deployed to AZ for an undetermined amount of time, so I took the refund. I got a call late Friday to travel home as I was reassigned to a project which starts on Tuesday. SO, Chevelle is playing a festival this evening near home and I hustled home yesterday. I was able to get seated VIP tickets, whatever that means and we'll get to see a Fleetwood Mac Tribute band, Rumors and The Gin Blossoms before. I had sort of forgot about the Gin Blossoms, but am excited to see them too. Looking at their recent set lists, they have tossed in a cover of Driver 8 by REM, which was a favorite back in the 80s.

There is no middle ground on the Pumpkins. People either love em or hate em

Have seen Gin Blossoms 5+ times. I think they are all still together. Great easily listening band with a lot of hits. Still sound great

I love the Pumpkins, but both times ive seen them i thought they sounded terrible- especially Billy's voice. Something about them doesn’t translate to a live show.

They're hit and miss with me, but their first live performance was all miss.

I should also have been more specific i LOVE early Pumpkins, especially the first 3 albums. (When i saw them) After that they are much more hit and miss, with more misses. I wouldn’t pay to see them now.

Rancid is great. For this show they play a pretty short set so be careful on times.
