Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (2 Viewers)

Saw Glass Animals live again a few weeks ago. They're really putting on a fantastic show right now and the visuals are nice.

I wanted to see these guys but had nobody to go with
I just went by myself and bought a nice seat dead-center a couple rows back from the pit. Have gotten more comfortable doing stuff like that as I get older. Especially if it isn't GA.

I’m getting tempted to. Wife will usually go to most stuff with me but then if she’s not into it she wants to leave early and then we end up arguing about it

Yeah. My wife is the same way. Better to avoid the fight. Save money on her ticket, the baby sitter, and the alcohol since she is my DD. I nursed one giant Stella the entire show.

Glass Animals was pretty awesome though. If you are on the fence, I highly recommend. Didn't catch their Dreamland tour.

It really is a great way to go. No talking, typically much better seating (even if it's not your original, super easy to move up and find an open one close), and it's WAY cheaper. Especially if you wait until late the day-of, you are sure to find some desperate sellers. Wish I had used this angle more often when I was young.

I did do it after the OX died and so one very memorable show, for free, up close at the Hollywood Bowl. Some biker asked if I was a fan, I said yeah, I'm here alone and my shirt said RIP OX on it, what more do you want? He handed me a ticket and walked off with his girl. Even after I tried to pay him he wouldn't take it. Just said pay it forward. Which I've done, many times.

I go to shows solo occasionally. I wouldn't want to all the time but occasionally it's a treat.

Man - Fogerty was unreal last night. George Thorogood opened. Good set. Rocking in his 70’s. But Fogerty was awesome. I mean one of the most enjoyable concerts I’ve ever been to. Dude is so content with his life. 79 and sounds as good as ever. Moved around like he was 40. Son’s are in the band and one on lead guitar shredded. Hit after hit. Highlights

1) Never knew that Chris Stapleton’s Joy of my Life was written and recorded by Fogerty decades ago 2) Wrote Who’ll Stop the Rain on the night he came home from Woodstock - great stories, said it was wild. 3) Told a story about after hearing the sound coming from Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton with Les Paul pickups he put one on his Rickenbacker guitar. Used that on all his early hits, including Green River. Then a 12 year old kid asked him for a guitar and he gave it to him. Regretted it and lost track of it 4) Wife is a bad ***. After over 40 years she hunted down the guitar, bought it and had it wrapped under the Christmas tree. He was in tears. She also helped him get back all of his music rights and he now owns it all. He gave up trying after decades but she was relentless

Total icon responsible for some of the best music in our history. See him if you can

Saw him last year in Clearwater, really good show and his stories are great.

Any feedback on Louder Than Life in Louisville? My schedule just opened up to make it possible and its my 56th birthday that weekend. It seems the hotels with the packages are walking distance and there are a TON of acts we would love to see. My wife and I are active seniors so we think we can pull it off!!

Saw Smashing Pumpkins and Green Day on Thursday. Rest of my family, especially my son, are Green Day fans. I was more excited about Pumpkins.

But wow did Green Day put on an awesome shoe. Billie Joe was great. I really thought the Pumpkins sounded bad. This is the second time I've seen in the last 5 years and I have been unimpressed. I feel like I'd prefer to just listen to the studio albums, and I never feel that way.
Got pit tickets tonight with our 11 yr old. He's a huge Green Day fan. Dad will get an extended beer break with other dad's making the trip during the Pumpkins set. Saw them ~10 yrs ago and they were awful. Looking forward to Rancid though.
There is no middle ground on the Pumpkins. People either love em or hate em
I saw this show at Target Field on 8/17 too. I prefer the Pumpkins over GD also but yeah, Green Day really brought the energy.

Pumpkins were decent. Second time I’ve seen them. What I thought sucked was the stage and show was all about GD and the Pumpkins played when the sun was nearly fully out. Their set should have been longer and later. It was just an in and out; played some hits then they’re outta here.

Crowd was awesome as was the video and effects. Too many people though without the whole upper level open and the small concourses.

Just saw my favorite garage/punk sensations Schizophonics the other night. One of the best bands you've probably never heard of. They opened for the punk all-star band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. We lasted two songs into the headliner and that was enough. You can't merely speed up ****ty songs from people like Paula Abdul and call it punk rock.

Del McCoury is well into his 80s but still drinking from the fountain of youth that's kept him going for so long. He's got the same fantastic band that carries his shows but his voice is still strong and his guitar fingers can still keep up with the band - although he's not doing solos. I've seen him at least a dozen times in the last 25 years and he remains a must-see act for bluegrass fans.

Cage the Elephant tonight

I haven't heard a lot of their music, but In One Ear is a certified banger. They're from Louisville, KY. I always root for bands from my family's town.
I think Bowling Green but close enough

They were definitely heavier than i expected, especially some of the older stuff

They definitely have a fairly unique sound, I told my kid they kind of reminded me of the pixies and he said that Doolittle was a big influence on them. Still boggles my mind that my 15 year old has more extensive music knowledge than I do

Jeff Lynne's ELO last night in Pittsburgh was great, but its prob a good thing this is his final tour. He still sounds great for the most part but looks pretty frail and missed some lyrics here and there. It was a noticeable difference in his health from when we saw him in 2022. He's a legend though, IMO, and I'm glad I got to see him one last time.

He always has amazing musicians with him. The band was just incredible, perfectly recreating that thick, layered ELO sound. Just awesome to see live.

I saw Paul Weller (aka the Modfather) last night in DC. It was a bucket list show for me. I’ve been waiting years for him to come back to the US. His set list was full of solo, Style Council, and Jam favorites. Glad I made the trip up there.

Candlebox
I saw these guys once in SoCal back in the early 2000s. Smaller show, cool venue. Lead singer had a cold and kept hocking up loogies and spitting phlegm on the stage. They were terrible that night. Their 1993 self-titled Candlebox album is probably one of the tightest studio albums I'd ever heard so it was so disappointing.

Hoping they're much better for you!

I played the hell out of that CD. I had a party once where someone had put Cover Me on repeat I think it played for hours

I saw them at Arts Beats and Eats* like 10 years ago they were actually pretty decent

*just a small city art show with food and music

Candlebox / Jerry Cantrell / Bush on Saturday night
Caught this on the Detroit stop. Candlebox was fun and sounded so "young" if that makes sense as the lead singers voice didn't show the same age that most early 90s singers naturally have. Jerry stole the show IMO. We've seen AIC 3 times in the last 2-years and went out to Boise to see him headline in early 2023, so I am way partial He is so tight. Only negative is that shorter set due to being on the undercard as I love his solo stuff and so many songs from the 2+ hour headline set had to be left off in favor of AIC classics. Bush was fine and Gavin's energy is incredible. Having seen them twice opening for AIC in 2022, we had kind of seen enough already, but were still entertained. ENJOY!

I saw Breaking Benjamin / AIC / Bush at the same venue a couple years ago. Breaking Benjamin seemed to be the crowd favorite probably due to crowd age. They were good, I'm just not that familiar with them outside their hits so not a huge fan. AIC was very good. I never did get to see Layne unfortunately. New singer was alright. Bush was the best band of the night for my vote. They had three great guitar players on that stage. Gavin still sounds great. Was first time seeing them.

Also love that Candlebox album. They are the opener and I have a softball tournament in the opposite side of the valley that is going late into the afternoon. I may skip the last game. Will see how much of any I can catch of Candlebox as the show starts at 6pm.

Same tour we saw AIC twice as we are huge Breaking Benjamin geeks too back to their beginning (I think we’ve seen them 7-8 times including an unplugged set which might be my favorite). Did you make the opener for the concert? If so was it Plush or The LIFE Project. I ask because both were amazing imo and we were so glad we caught both.

ENJOY the concert!!!!’

The opener for this one or the prior concert. Don't remember the prior. This one there was a actually a 4th band id never heard of - Bones UK. That was good because even though I left before the 3rd game everything was still an hour behind. Didn't get to my seat until 7pm, an hour after kickoff. Only missed a couple Candlebox songs. All three bands were great. Gavin seemed a little off. I noticed he has big bags under his eyes and he looked and sounded like he was struggling a bit like with a cold or something. He was still jumping and dancing around stage and sounded pretty good, just off a little from when I saw him a couple years back.

Went to Sea Hear Now Festival in Asbury Park over the weekend. Saw the following acts:

Robert Randolph Band
Sierra Ferrell
The Revivalists
Grace Potter
The Black Crowes
311
Noah Kahan

Joy Oladunken
Eggy
Kool & The Gang
Norah Jones
Trey Anastasio Band*
Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band

* Bruce came out with TAB to play “Kitty’s Back”.

Magical night when Bruce played a 3 hour and 15 minute set to close the festival.

I’ve seen over 600 concerts in my life: Trey Anastasio leading into Bruce Springsteen’s set was the best live music experience of my life.

The only regret was missing Gaslight Anthem (Bruce also joined them for two songs) because I didn’t want to give up my spot for Bruce. It was so worth it though as I had a great spot to see the band while hearing the music. The E Street Band is a well oiled machine - amazing amazing amazing.

Grace Potter stole the day on Saturday and I’m a huge Black Crowes fan. Her and her band were incredible. So much energy. I highly recommend checking her out.

Cage the Elephant tonight
Young the Giant are the openers

Took my son and a female friend of his. I only know a handful of songs but it’s one of his favorites. Not sure I could even name a YTG song

Should be fun though
Young the Giant is excellent. I'd be more interested in them than Cage.

I liked Cage much better, both put on a good show though. Maybe I’ll add some YTG to my library

No doubt - some bands are just wired to be good live. Went to a festival a bit back to watch four bands I was interested in and they were all good, but one (Arcade Fire) was just beyond amazing.

Farewell tour of Front242. Saw them for the fifth and final time last Saturday.

Justice coming up in October

Caribou + full band in November.

My buddy is begging me to go see the Disco Biscuits in January

Saw Goose last weekend. Don’t love them but once the edibles and a few beers kicked in I was dancing like a fool. Great light show.

They are doing a 3 night run in Cincy in November. I don't like them enough to do all three but am doing two.

I tried to get my wife to do back to back nights of Billy Strings in October and was shot down. I couldn’t imagine any band I could get her to do 3…maybe Tool

Shane Smith & The Saints is one of the best touring acts on the road right now.

Just caught them (4th show since 2017) and theyve gotten increasingly better live. Absolutely blew the roof off Mill & Mine in Knoxville.

Next morning I grabbed tickets to both nights at rhe Ryman next month.

This is a group you want to be up close for if possible, but man they put on a high energy show. Fiddler Bennett Brown is among the top in the game… dude straight shreds.

Tickets are reasonable (~30-50) and VIP pack (+~100) includes couple private songs preshow, meet & greet / photos, signed tour poster, free koozie, and best of all: early entry… meaning you’re down front on the rail in GA shows. For reserved shows youll be in the closest seats.

Their Red Rocks show for the un-initiated:

Saw Pearl Jam at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore last Thursday and it was a great show.

Heading to the Trifecta Food Truck Festival tomorrow with 12 mostly cover bands that alternate times between two stages at the opposite sides of the grounds, plus with over 30 food trucks to choose from. This is always a great time.

Then heading to Miami in October to see Taylor Swift, this was my daughters 16th birthday gift.
