Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (3 Viewers)

hoping to get tickets for the Rock and Roll hall of fame induction in Brooklyn, but I have a feeling I'll get screwed (all tickets going to bots, or for free to rich or famous people). for the wife. radiohead, the cure, stevie nicks... should be fun.
We got the tickets...Radiohead, the cure, Stevie Nicks, Janet Jackson, def Leppard... All will be inducted, we'll see who plays.

Sorry man. Maybe he'll change his mind.
news reports describe a british cultural   from the band about the thing, and a general dislike of british version of awards shows. yorke also mentioned that he's premiering the classical piece he's been working on in paris a few days after the ceremony that will need his attention (because rock stars flying on planes to get to and from gigs is unheard of).

maybe neil young and eddie vedder can do the music of radiohead instead- aren't they like a house band for that?

btw...

Meanwhile, Yorke's track "Suspirium" has been short-listed for a best original song nod at this year's Oscars – and, this time, he seems far more interested. “I mean, I hope it gets nominated," Yorke noted. "That would be great, because it was a year and a half in my life, and I worked bloody hard on it. So, you know, sometimes it's nice to be recognized. Sometimes, if you understand what it means."
sure- a year and a half is a long time compared to a career thus far. like how he threw in that last sentence. because the RnR hall of fame is incredibly difficult to comprehend... for a guy who put's out the most simple pop tunes.

eta: :hot:  ... :(  ... :kicksrock:

Some last min plans. Im picking up tix for Billy Joel at MSG on Valentine's day.

Surprised the price of tix seems to have come down. Assumed this would have been a hotter ticket. I've been eyeing dates for a few months.

Saw The Beths last night at Lincoln Hall in Chicago.

If they're coming to a town near you, I highly recommend going to see them. Power Pop band with a female singer and harmonies galore, which they can really pull off live. Based on what I saw on youtube, I wasn't sure how good this was going to be, but everything I saw beforehand didn't do what I saw last night justice. I was impressed and scrambling in my brain for a female fronted band that I have seen before that I could say was better than them.

Video for A Little Death

Colter Wall a couple weeks ago - highly recommend.

Tomorrow I'm seeing the Earls of Leicester at Old Town in Chicago - they are the best bluegrass band there is these days. An all-star band put together by Jerry Douglas that plays exclusively Flatt/Scruggs tunes from a specific time period in their lineup.

Jerrys sick. Hopefully feeling better by your show. J Do is the man.

wow - that would suck if Jerry can't play. I'm not sure what they would do.  My favorite in the band is Charlie Cushman - best bluegrass banjo I've ever heard. I always get emotional when I see him play because he reminds me of the way my dad used to play banjo.

Bela's up there but the best bluegrass banjo player I've heard was Jim Mills with Kentucky Thunder. Specifically the set from Telluride in 2001. Jaw-dropping stuff this guy had. Big Charlie fan too.

Got tix for Avett Brothers for The Greek in Berkeley 8/17.  Not a big fan of theirs.  Not that I don't like their music, but I just never really listened to much of them.  I really like "Ain't No Man".  Anything else like that?  Do they bring more energy for their live shows versus studio releases?

Going to DMB in Sac 9/7.  Hoping they announce a Bay Area show as none are currently booked.  Maybe the new Chase Center?

Saw Union Station at Red Rocks - and the band came out and Allison is pretty particular about her monitors. (in the top 10 of "can't get a monitor mix" performer). So they were ready to start and Allison throws a fit and they shut off mics while crew rushes around to fix. What does Mr. Douglas do? Steps out to the edge of the stage - without amplification - and rips into a Hendrix style "Star Spangled Banner" on lap. One of the best moments from hundreds of shows I've seen at Red Rocks. Needless to say the crowd went wild.

J Do is indeed the man.

Saw Bob Weir/Wolf Brothers last night.

People I was going with had to bail, so I had two free tickets to give away.  Gave to a couple complete strangers and we had a good time.  After talking with one guy after a while we realized we went to grade school together.  Crazy.

Saw Cheap Trick last week. They can still bring it live and if you are a fan of their first few albums, definitely a show to check out, as they pulled out some tunes I was not expecting to here.

Seeing Bowie tribute show this weekend (band made up of players that backed him on prior tours with different lead vocalists (Corey Glover from Living Colour is one). Fab Faux the following week doing Magical Mystery Tour and Apple rooftop sets. Set for Beck/Spoon later in the summer and a few others in sight. Lots of activity and I enjoying it all!

Just back from seeing Elton John in Brooklyn.  I was skeptical going in but shouldn’t have been.  Great great show.  His voice isn’t the same that’s true, although he was pretty good, but he and his band killed it.  The percussionist was unbelievable on the snares, timpony, wind chimes, and tamberine.  Elton and his whole band jammed throug the 2:45 show.  Fantastic.

Saw Dave Matthews this week in smallish venue.  Germans have no idea who he is.  Good show but honesty am only a fan of his really early stuff.  Can't complain for forty bucks.

has anybody done this?

the tickets say the show starts at 7:00, but having seen it on TV a couple times- and I assume it was edited- I'd figure there's a lot of talking and down/setting up time. we're trying to figure out how long to keep the baby-sitter... dunno if this is going to 9:00... or way past midnight.

Just bought tickets to Live + Bush + Our Lady Peace.  Perfect for a 42 year old who wore out Throwing Copper and Sixteen Stone in High School / College.  It's a sorta crappy but local venue (Allentown Fairgrounds) so taking the kids for their first "real" concert.  Time to check out recent set lists and build a playlist for the car so we'll all know the songs (me and wife - new ones, kids - all) when we go.

I think this will be the 3-4th time I've seen Live (including the last stop on the original Throwing Copper tour w/ PJ Harvey and Veruca Salt at the old Philly Spectrum) but I think first time for Bush and OLP.

I've gone a few times. It is a 4-5 hour show. Not really any down time but there is a lot of talking.

Basically someone comes up and talks about an artists being inducted explaining why they're important. Then the artist comes up and talks about themselves. Then there is a performance with 3 or so songs. Rinse in repeat for all 5 inductees.

Sometimes you here some interesting antidotes and creative deliveries. Other-times it is fairly nondescript.

Generally there is a 1 song jam at the end of the night with a variety of different inductees and guests.

Just saw Mike Doughty play Soul Coughing's '94 debut, "Ruby Vroom," in its entirety last week in Chicago. Great show. Wheatus opened and was also fantastic, even though I forgot all about 'em. Upcoming, I have tix for Beck/CagetheElephant/Spoon, Mark Lanegan Band, Santigold,  a cancelled Massive Attack tour, and I need to see about some Iron Maiden tix.

Would love to see Seger.  Trying to see if can make it work - glad to hear he was great!

LIVE will be great.  Saw them in So Cal after they got back together.  Awesome.

Saw Stapleton in Dublin Saturday night.  Guy at the bar afterward said is favorite artist is Jamey Johnson, even better than Stapleton.  Well, I'll likely disagree but that's high praise.  Saw that he's playing in L.A. Thursday night so bought 2 tix while I was in Dublin.  Need some time with the wife so good timing.

Alex Lifeson's speech was the best one ever

didn't realize Roxy Music and The Zombies were going in too... kinda jazzed about those too, even if stupidhead/radiohead isn't showing.

they announced the introducers today:

David Byrne - Radiohead

Trent Reznor- The Cure

Hairy Styles- Stevie

Janelle Monae- Janet

Brian May- Def Leppard

John Taylor, Simon le Bon- Roxy Music

Susanna Hoffs- The Zombies

they'll show this on HBO, Apr 27

the wife is already talking about wanting to bail early if her favorites Stevie and the Cure go early.

going to see Y&T tonight at the Machine Shop in Flint.  they are an old favorite of mine from my junior high/HS days, going with about 12 other people who all went to HS with me, many of them I haven't seen in 20 years.  all these years and I've never seen Y&T before tonight

I have always felt that Stapleton copied Johnsons style. I suppose you could say that about a lot of artists but this one really stands out to me. Jamey Johnson is fantastic and super under rated.

Same show will be here in August. I am thinking of going but it is on a dreaded Sunday night.

live played at voodoo fest a few years ago a few bands before Foo Fighters.  Still thought they sounded pretty good

Kelly C was great.  Kelsie Ballerini opened up (my favorite country gal) but KC's vocals are on another level.  She was engaging, funny, played all her hits.

Great show.
