Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (2 Viewers)

Saw Dead and Co this past Saturday.  I haven't been listening much this tour but Saturday's show was awesome.

Heading to New York this week, seeing Lord Huron in lower  Manhattan Thursday night.  Then off to Asbury Park for Sea-Hear-Now festival this weekend.  Then back home and Heartless Bastards next weekend.

I was at Sea-Hear-Now as well.  Can't believe I was in the presence of Shuke and didn't even now it.

Firefly was awesome. My daughter went for all four days with her best friend and mom, I went on Friday with the wife. She looked like death warmed over when she came home Sunday night, but she was still smiling.

The bands were so openly appreciative of finally being able to play again, that it created a really positive vibe. Hunny warmed up into a great set. Royal and the Serpent was a very nice surprise. The Killers were the headliner, and were incredible, but Cage the Elephant killed their set dead. Upstage doesn’t even begin to describe it, they just owned all the other bands. The energy was at a 12. Man, it felt so good to get back to live music. Next up, Soccer Mommy and a fest at Merriweather.

If anyone is coming to Florida for the Dead and Company shows next week, don’t bother. They have been cancelled. The article cites “routing and production logistics” as issues. Pretty sure those aren’t the reason for the cancellations.

  • Tickets for Boz Scaggs Sad'y, not sure going, great seats up front but had a mixed bag at Cedric Bburnside,,,,Killer show but masking to listen to music, not sure where I am on this. If I knew he had band with for album supporting no brainer, Charlie Sexton, Doyle Bramhall, Willie Weeks, Jim Keltner among them... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0sH6UXT5vk

Mrs. Eephus got overambitious yesterday and bought tickets for The Blasters and the English Beat for the same night in different cities. We opted for the Blasters because the show was outdoors and were able to break even on the Beat tickets.

I've seen the Blasters a lot over the years and they always put on a fun show. Singer Phil Alvin was in good voice but he appeared extremely frail even compared to the last time we saw the band in 2018.  Phil had serious health issues about a decade ago and had to cancel the Blasters' last local date in Dec 2019.  w His walk to the stage was painfully slow. He stood for the whole concert but it wouldn't surprise me to see him sing from a stool in the future.

It was the first concert I've taken a dog to. We normally drop him off at my daughter's place but she was out of town for a wedding.  Louis is a pandemic dog and is miserable when he's left alone. He's extremely well behaved though and spent the concert on my shoulder about 20' from the stage. I don't think he loved it, especially the lights but it was better for him than cowering under the bed all night.

I saw the Blasters at the Doheny Blues Festival a few years ago. Phil was just coming back then. Really frail. But sang well. Dave was just a beast. So good

Saw Modest Mouse at the new place here in Cincinnati down on the Riverfront.  Nice new venue.  First time seeing MM.  Definitely a good time.

The opening band was interesting.  Future Islands.  They've apparently been around a while but not sure if I've heard them before.  Lead singer is super intense and animated, and occasionally does this weird really deep yell thing.  I'll be looking into them some more.

Friend of mine was very happy with MM here in Tucson. Said it was a great show.

Have you been to Ovation in Newport yet? My maiden voyage was supposed to be Chevelle next month, but they cancelled, so not sure when I will make my way over there.

Coworker has been to 2 shows over there and he loves it. He was also at MM the other night, but I haven't talked to him yet about which one he prefers, or if there even is much difference.

Not yet.  Thinking about Silversun Pickups on 11/6, but I’m going to the UC game that day and and they haven’t announced game time yet.

I’m seeing Henry Rollins in April on his spoken word tour. I saw him about 20 years ago at University of Wyoming. It was a free show and it was excellent.

Mrs. Eephus calls the singer "that gorilla guy"

Cool that you saw Dave play with the band. I haven't seen him with the Blasters since the 80s but I've seen him perform solo, in duos with Phil and Jimmie Dale Gilmore and as a member of the Flesh Eaters.

first song I heard from them- usually like what I hear that Spotify throws at me since then, but don't go out of my to listen usually. I wouldn't have guessed "intense" or animated from what I've heard...

Now watch the same song live.

Dude has moves.  Make sure you wait for the highlights, like the chest pounding at 2:07 (he did this so much the other night and so hard that I assume he has bruises), whatever is going on at 2:27, or that blood-curdling guttural noise at 3:28.

By the way, I really like this song.

Great fun seeing Foreigner at the Greek in L.A. last night.  Crowd was way into it.  You could tell both the band and fans really were amped up for live music again.  We ate and drank at the picnic benches outside which is what makes the Greek and Hollywood Bowl so great in addition to the acoustics.  Only needed masks in the restrooms.

Are any of the original guys in Foreigner?

Interesting to hear how they/he are live...has to be in a smallish club, yeah?
Just got home from this show. They were great. My favorite show I've been to in a long while.

Only about 100 people showed up but we were all pretty rabid NoL fans.  And the band definitely fed off that.   I'd recommend seeing them next time they're in town.

Stones were absolutely fantastic last night at So Fi.  I'm just amazed at the show these guys can still put on.  Really cool tribute to Charlie at the beginning.  Played 2 hours.  Good set list though as advertised Brown Sugar is no longer in the mix which is a bummer.  Mick sounded great and had tons of energy.  Some great interaction with the crowd.  Keith and Ronnie are just so damn clean.  I'd see them again in a heartbeat.  I hope I have 1/10th of that energy when I'm 78.

Took the GF to Pat Benetar in Clearwater last night. John Waite opened and was decent. Pat (and Neil of course) were great. I wasn't expecting a rock show, but that's what it was and I was really surprised how good they were.  And while Pat doesn't try to hit the higher notes these days, she can still belt out 90% of the songs and sounds great.

Saw Black Pumas last weekend.  Not my cup of tea, but they were alright.  Eric Burton is a very good frontman.  In fact, he pretty much is the band.  Couple songs were alright, but the rest was so so.  Terrible Tracy Chapman cover of Fast Car.  Wouldn’t want to see again.

The Fixx was pretty good last night. No English Beat, but 2 of the 3 members of Fastball (anyone remember them?) opened with an acoustic set that was quite honestly fantastic. Next Friday it’s back to the same venue for Psych Furs.

Saw 500 Miles to Memphis last night.  It's a Cincy-based "Americana punk" band that has been around for a few decades.  Great show.  It was a the Southgate Revival House, across the river in northern Kentucky.  It's a renovated old church and a cool place to see music.  Last night they had shows going on in three different parts of the building.  I was also able to catch some of The Hiders, another Cincy band that has gone to a duo act.

I know of both of these bands due to the occasional airplay they used to get on our now-defunct local independent radio station.  What's sad is I don't have a good source to hear new bands like this any more.

Heading to some show tonight with @scorchy. Got the go ahead from the local public health authority. Strap on the N95 and get to jammin.

First real live show other than some Cuban band I saw on a patio of a restaurant in Mexico.

Flew to Denver from Chicago and caught night 2 of Dead & Co. at Red Rocks on the 20th. I got on the bus in 88' so missed the GD's last show at Red Rocks by a year. It was always a dream of mine to see Dead tunes at Red Rocks so had to make it happen. It was an incredible time. The show itself was great, but I also met so many great people that night. The vibe there was incredible. Was a Dead dream come true! Didn't want the night to end.

Saw Psychedelic Furs last night. They played a lot of songs off their newish album Made of Rain. It’s a really good album imo. They mixed in a bunch of classics too.

I’m headed to Vegas next Thursday and seeing Sting at Caesar’s Palace next Saturday night. I’ve only seen him once before with Peter Gabriel on their Rock, Paper, Scissors tour where they co-headlined.

There’s no better venue than Red Rocks imo. The last show I saw there before I moved away was Rat Dog.

Silversun Pickups tonight.   One of the better shows I've been to in awhile.

it made me buy Gojira tickets for the same small venue for Friday night.

Saw Dayglow in KC last weekend—another fun one. Fairly small venue and high energy crowd. For the encore, they did this Everybody Wants to Rule The World / Run the World transition which was pretty cool.

Also…Got Fall 2022 tickets for The Killers in Chicago.  :excited:

Had tickets to DeVotchka, but they just cancelled.  Bummer.  Speaking of concerts, is there such a thing as a website that you can put in a watchlist of bands and a distance radius so I can get alerts when stuff is getting scheduled around me?  I tend to luck into stuff and miss a lot.

Also, most artists and bands have websites and you can get on their email list. I'm on a few and have not had any of them spam me.

Over the past two weeks I've seen William Elliot Whitmore at a small venue here in my city, Billy Strings at a much larger general admission theater show, and Del McCoury and his boys in Chicago.  All great shows. Several more on the calendar over the next couple months.  So happy to be back in the live music scene.

I have to say the Sting show I went to at Caesar’s Palace last Saturday night was one of the most produced shows I’ve ever been to, but it was also one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. It was totally worth it.

Tears For Fears just announced their 2022 tour with a stop in Tampa (yay). They’re supported by Garbage (also yay). The bad news is the concert’s in Tampa and outdoors in June (ugh). I’ll go, but I’m gonna be a sweaty mess.

The Fixx is playing here on Nov 20th. I am thinking about going.

Did somebody praise solo Sting? My antennae went nuts.
