Went to the Green + Brown show at the Troxy (London). They were superb.
Managed to grab tickets to The Cure there on 1st November, too. Which should be fun.

I mentioned the bass player was in all of floppinhos school of rock bands. Kid was insanely talented.

Omg... Hadn't thought about them in years!!
Saw them in NYC or SF when they first came out... Early 90s? Fun, fun show. I recall each had headlights on that looked a bit like laser eyes in the dark theater.

I can in to post that floppinho has one of his HS coffee houses tonight. Senior year, so these are the last ones ..

My kid wanted to go last year and asked again this year because Acid Bath is reuniting (although I guess he mainly liked the bassist that died) but he’ll only be 16 and im not quite sure I’m ready to take him to an all day festival in VegasI know this is WAY outside the threads "cup of tea" but Sick New World PreSale is on now for Vegas in April 2025. Our Daughter, 29,is into metalcore, but has tagged along since she was young to tons of metal concerts since she was a teen. She was either 15 or 16 when I took her to see Motley Crue at The Palace of Auburn HIlls, so I get the concern! Now, she "takes" mom and dad to things like Shadow of Intent down at St Andrews (which was quite the experience). As a family, we love festivals and do Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores each year. I will say that for all of the festivals, we have felt incredibly safe and comfortable. I think his next one is Black Dhalia Murder / Dying Fetus in November (I’m skipping that one)
We did Eyehategod earlier this year at the Sanctuary as well as Korn/Mudvaybe and Megadeth/Gojira at Pine Knob
He just saw Hatebreed too at Royal oak
Im not really too worried about the safety aspect, I’d probably take him if mom gave the OK but I also don’t want to spend a few racks on the trip either

Really great show Thursday night. Life is a Carnival - celebration of Robbie Robertson. Man what a lineup. At times there were 22 musicians on stage. Eric Church kicked it off with a great version of Up on Cripple Creek. So many great moments. Eric Clapton did 4 songs. Van Morrison did 3. Mike Campbell did some great stuff with the rest of the Heartbreakers and Margot Price. Robert Randolph. Trey Anastasio. Bob Weir. They just kept coming. Jamey Johnson killed a few songs and I might have been most impressed with Nathaniel Rateliff. First time seeing him and man was he great. I knew The Band’s music but not their story. So I watched Once were Brothers and The Last Waltz on my flight from DC. So good

Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country @ The Stone Pony on Friday Night.
One of the better live shows I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot). Donato does some amazing things on guitar and the band is so tight.

It was amazing.
And the kids at their school who go to these are so incredibly supportive...tons of cheering and whooping for all the performers, even moreso if any of them struggle. My son gave his 8th grade sister a great introduction (it's only HS kids that perform) and they did great. Will remember this forever.

I saw Gillian and Dave in Charlotte. Unlike past shows it was a fairly even split on who sang lead and they seemed to be more relaxed . They also did an unplanned second encore to play a Malcolm Holcomb song and a few others.
I bet Sturgill was awesome.

Sturgill was awesome. He is now performing under the name Johnny Blue Skies, and he has an album out under that name. He and his band played for 3 hours. They sounded great, and it was a fun mix of Sturgill songs, two or three Johnny Blue Skies songs, and several covers. Some of the covers that I can recall are Midnight Rider, Whiter Shade of Pale, The Promise, Purple Rain, Call Me the Breeze, Long White Line, Pinball Blues, You Don't Miss the Water, I'd Have to Be Crazy, a snippet of Spirit in the Sky, and the last song of the evening was L.A. Woman. It was a lot of fun.
I'm looking forward to Gillian and Dave Friday night.

My buddy was gonna hook me up with backstage passes to see Slayer and Pantera at Aftershock festival in Sacramento. But much as I love Pantera, I just can't get excited to meet Phil Anselmo after watching his Nazi salute video. Just bums me out.

I missed seeing Crystal Method last year (friend had to back out), so I'm pretty psyched to see Orbital. Now I just need to catch a FatBoy Slim / Chemical Brothers show and my tour or 90s electronica will almost be complete

I saw UK buzzband Fat Dog last night. They're a five piece including a sax and play a noisy brand of punk EDM krautrock. The kids seem to be into moshing again because there was a wild and mostly well behaved pit active for both bands on the bill. Fat Dog's keyboard player came onto the floor for a pushup contest with the audience which I'd never seen before.
I still love going to see new bands even though I'm twice as old as most everybody else in the club these days. Every live concert comes with possibilities but I think the chance of seeing something unique is higher when the artists haven't performed their set hundreds of times before. Standing and dancing on a concrete floor for three hours takes more a physical toll on me than it used to.

Yes. My buddy's car overheated and stalled on our way. Had to push it across busy intersection to get water in coolant tank. Luckily we weren't far from my house to drive back to get my car. Got there in time. Thank you for the follow up question.

First time seeing String Cheese Incident last night. Anyone else ever seen them? I think there's a couple of jam bands fans in the ffa. That was a really fun show. Far exceeded my expectations. Those old mofos can really jam. I was running on fumes after they played for 3.5 hours. I liked them a lot more than Goose. A lot more diversity in the genres of music they cover. Even Phish where some of their jams just go in all different directions before coming back together, I appreciated the cohesion in their jams. Always wanted to give them a shot and the opportunity finally presented itself. Look forward to seeing them again next year. Its also nice they don't have nearly the following as Phish so you can see them in more intimate venues.
