My Morning Jacket

Heavily considering:
Bendigo Fletcher
Hyryder
String Cheese Incident, The Wood Brothers
Allman Betts Band

Melvin Seals and JGB (Jerry Garcia Band) last night at the Stone Pony.

Amazing show. Seals had to be helped out and couldn’t handle lead vocals anymore but he can still play that Hammond B.

John Kadlecik did an incredible job of replicating Jerry’s guitar and vocals.

The crowd was great - much younger than I figured.

Saw Corb Lund and Hayes Carll last night in Macon at the Capitol Theater. No opener. Just them and their acoustic guitars playing their songs and swapping stories. Really great time and a different way to see them . We had great front row seats I got on the pre-sale which made it even better.

First time in my life I timed a show perfectly...but accidentally. We ate dinner next door, walked in the theater, sat down in the last two open seats, and they walked out and started playing.

Not to spam up the thread but when they announced this tour I bought Macon and Nashville tickets. Nashville is on April 27th at Chief's on Broadway. Turns out we can't go so if anyone here is interested in 4 front row balcony tickets I'll let them go to a FBG for what I paid...just under 80 each.

I saw Hayes Carll a few years back - he put on a great show.

I saw them in Charlotte last night and it was a great show. Laid back, swapping stories and laughs and great music.

Up next is Johnny Blue Sky/Sturgill

Kid Rock / Chris Janson tonight. Can't believe the wife agreed to go.
Seen Kid a bunch of times. Always a good show. He’s now joined a bunch of artists I won’t see because they insist on talking politics vs just freaking doing what we paid them do. Started with Ted Nugent. He’s the worst. And by the way it’s both sides. Just freakin sing
Hard to tell at times if I was at a Kid Rock concert or political rally.

The fact that the entire concert started with Trump on the big screen set the stage.

Still an entering show. Dude still has a voice and brings it.

Janson was good, but the sound crew should be fired. Could barely hear the voice and if you didn't know the song, it was next to impossible to know what he was singing. Looking at previous show reviews, many say the same. Too bad as he's a decent artist.

Riverbend in Cincinnati.

Had some $20 live nation coupon so ended up grabbing The Head and The Heart tickets for the end of May

Crappy balcony seats but after the discount it was like $60 for 2 tickets

I was at a marketing conference in San Diego last week, and I learned that bots are the reason tickets sell out instantly. I had no idea. Bots scoop up all the tickets and instantly mark them up for resale. That's some hideous **** right there. When we saw The Hives last year, we avoided a huge markup by showing up at the venue and buying the tickets only slightly marked up.

@shuke how are the Lord Huron shows? They really good live? Im not a huge fan but like what I’ve heard and wanted to check them out but right now the resale tix for Michigan show are like $150+ and I’m too old for Lawn seats

I’m hoping they come down closer to the show date

Fun shows, a majority of songs on the higher energy side. I don't play the aftermarket ticket game much, but I would assume prices would come way down from there, but I guess that depends on venue size.

Thanks

The venue seats 7,701 patrons with 2,819 pavilion seats and 4,882 in the lawn

Taking the wait and see approach for now it’s not until August

Told you. That’s why I’ll never see him again

Grabbed some tickets for Arcade Fire in NOLA. Very strange setup - the presale was less than a week ago. 12 concerts popped up out of nowhere (and they're all over the place). Saw them last year at Shaky Knees and they were easily the highlight of the day there.

They didn't sell out in New Orleans - it's Jazz Fest there, so it's music saturation this weekend. I guess they're going there as they recorded their new album in New Orleans.

My upcoming:

Sammy Hagar - May 9th in Vegas at Dolby live
Dead & Company - May 10th in Vegas at the Sphere
Tyler Childers - June 10th at the Hollywood Bowl
George Straight/Chris Stapleton - July 19th at SoFi Stadium
Morgan Wallen/Brooks and Dunn - Aug 2nd at Levi's Stadium
Tedeschi Trucks Band - Aug 13th at the Greek
Oasis - Sept 6th at the Rose Bowl
Teddy Swims - Sept 10th at the Greek
Dave Navarro and Friends playing New York Dolls and The Cars - October 26th at The Fonda

Will be a fun summer - that's the max I've committed/ticketed but will add others based on schedule and ticket availability

Took my kid to the Poisoned Ascendency Tour

Bullet For My Valentine
Trivium
August Burns Red
Bleed From Within

Crowd went pretty hard for trivium waiting on Bullet still

Next week just got interesting. Already seeing Son Volt on Thursday and Bendigo Fletcher on Friday. For Christmas we bought my son Friday/Sunday passes to Sonic Temple festival in Columbus with the expectation he was going with his girlfriend. They just broke up. I just bought another pass so he can take a buddy on Thursday and I'll go with him on Sunday. Not really my typical scene but Metallica will be cool to see. Alice In Chains is also playing but have no idea what they sound like without Layne Staley.

I’ll be there Friday…considering bailing midway through Metallica so I can catch ICP

Try to catch Ice Nine Kills on Sunday, they’re pretty fun, especially if you’re into movie horror

We will be there all (4) days! Taking out 29 yr old daughter who is over the top into MetalCore, a HUGE Shadow of Intent fan (no my thing, but there are so many other amazing acts). Prepare to be wowed by AIC. We have see them 4 times in the last three years (and have seen Jerry solo three more times) and, while WIlliam is no Layne, he gels real well with Jerry. Do not miss Chevelle right before them. Another band we've seen lots lately (and have tix again in August). Amazing how much sound the 3-piece can put out. I don't get the Fri/Sat line ups. Friday is a bit lame IMO as I've seen Alice Cooper before and have no desire to see Rob Zombie. THEN, they overlapped Incubus and Crossfade on Saturday; two bands I was really looking forward to seeing. My wife and daughter will be seeing Incubus, while I'll be catching Crossfade (after TRUSTCompany, which should be amazing). Three Days Grace with both lead singers on Thursday night should be mind blowing (except the set is super short). The Maday mash up of the two is fun and we've seen them several times with both. I looked back and if I am right, I will put almost exactly 40-years between my first Metallica show and what my be my last (and saw them at The Silverdome in 1987 at Monsters of Rock). The short, bald, old guy in the Everything Hurts T-Shirt (my last day of festivals shirt) will be me on Sunday!!

To prime our concert pump, I am taking my wife in a weekday date night to see AC/DC at Ford Field tonight. Crazy that we will have seen them, Judas Priest, Kiss and Iron Maiden (twice) in less than three years. Gotta catch these bands while they are still around!!!

Nice. Main bands I want to see Friday below. Rest is up to my 16 yr old although I’ll let him go off on his own if we have conflicts

Suicidal Tendencies

Acid Bath - main reason we are going, his favorite band that reunited after 20 years, as of now only playing a few shows and festivals and this was the closest one (I guess there also at some metal and tattoo show in Ohio too but this worked better)

Rob Zombie - have seen him before, years ago at Ozzfest. Not must see for me but barring any conflicts will plan to catch a few songs

Mastodon - don’t really know their stuff but have heard theyre good

Metallica - ill at least catch part of the show, but I saw the recent tour at Ford Field and while they’re one of my favorite bands I expect the GA stadium seating (which we have) to be a cluster-bleep. How long I stick around will probably depend on our seats, but we definitely aren’t planning to camp out and miss out on other performances

ICP - I’ve never seen them so I’ll probably try to catch it, assuming I can talk my kid into it (less likely to let him go on his own at closing time)

Might try to catch a little Alice Copper and I’m sure he’ll want to see Cannibal Corpse

So funny the "generational" aspect of festival planning. Our daughter sent us her spreadsheet (this is a thing with her as she is an over-planner like me) and the only band I am really familiar with on Friday is Metallica. Her Friday rundown is:

200 Stab Wounds
Peelingflesh
Angelmaker
Deafhaven
Testament (I'm in for this)
Acadia Strain
GateKreeper
Acid Bath
Black Dahlia Murder
WHITECHAPEL
Metallica

Several overlap, so her sheet has "analytics" on to choose :nerd:

May need a jolt Thursday afternoon to bounce from Sevendust, to Memphis May Fire, back for TDG, over to Poppy, back for Bad Omens, way over to watch the start of Killswitch Engage (hoping for an early DIO cover) then quickly back for Korn.

SO DANG COOL we get to do this stuff with our Kids!!!

We are doing the Field VIP. Its years worth of Xmas and B-Day gifts for our Daughter. She has not been able to attend Hang Out Fest with the family the last few years and we had Sick New World tix to take her before it cancelled. I am a huge sucker for experiences with the kids, so we are going big on this one instead.

I wanted field but it was sold out by the time we committed (or at least Friday was). But as far as I can tell all gets you is floor access for the stadium (which is cool but not a dealbreaker for me)

We did get VIP though which I think is just a VIP only locker and bathroom section

Anyway I’m sure it’s gonna be fun although I’m not sure how I’m gonna hold up for a full day. We’re planning on leaving Detroit around 7 or 8 AM and then I did get a hotel in Columbus for the night. But still damn near 12 hours of festival time
Im not planning on drinking which should help too (certainly helps my wallet). I will bring a handful of “mints” though

Alice In Chains is also playing but have no idea what they sound like without Layne Staley.

Cool. Thanks for the recommendations. Where are your tickets? We have stadium GA.

VIP has main stage simulcast and dedicated bathrooms (both OLD GUY big deals), along with lockers to rent. With a bit of rain possible, we will likely get a locker on those days to stash ponchos and dry socks (did I mention, I'm old). Hoping the lockers have USB plugs for phone charging too.

Next week just got interesting. Already seeing Son Volt on Thursday and Bendigo Fletcher on Friday. Yeah it claims they have chargers but I’m still bring a battery pack just to be safe

Poncho and dry socks not a bad idea

Saw Tedeschi Trucks Band with Buddy Guy opening in Dallas. As good a time as you'll find out there. At 88, Buddy Guy may not be the player he once was but he still knows how to put on a blues show and his band is top notch. Only played a couple of original songs and a ton of blues standards including dune Muddy Waters, BB King, and Hendrix. And absolutely brought a bit of Chicago down to Dallas. I felt like I was seeing the best of the bands at Blues Fest in Grant Park. And everyone was smiling the entire hour long set.

TTB is just a great show, a true band in every sense of the word and everybody got their time in the spotlight. Of course Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi are the stars and for good reason but the entire band is great, and they put on a great show.

Sunday was my first show since the pandemic. Bob Mould in Philly. He and his trio have been on fire since 2012 and this show was no exception.

Interestingly, there were no Sugar songs. In fact, he played Husker Du songs (including a Grant Hart tune) and solo material from 2012 and later, but nothing in between.

TTB is like going to a revival. So much talent on that stage.

Son Volt last night. I was afraid about the energy going into this, because it was at a venue that sometimes has all seating. But last night they had it set up for standing. And Son Volt was rocking. I thought maybe they were going to play Trace all the way through but that was not the case.

I’m a few weeks late on this, but did anybody else happen to go to Coachella? Great time, not sure I need to do it again unless somebody really special plays there (like either a Daft Punk or White Stripes one-off reunion show). I got my fill of live acts for a little while, though I have more scheduled this summer.

Caught at least part of all these acts (Weekend 2):

Friday

Julie
Go-Gos
Djo
Benson Boone
Eyedress
Miike Snow
Prodigy (Favorite show of the weekend)
Lady Gaga

Saturday

Ed Sheeran
Yo Gabba Gabba
(low key amazing show with lots of special guests sprinkled in)
T-Pain
Blonde Redhead
Charli XCX
Clairo
Green Day
Above and Beyond
Horsegiirl
The Dare

Sunday

Fcukers
The Beaches
beabadoobee
Basement Jaxx
Kraftwerk (such a cool performance)
