Consensus Top 300 Albums of All-Time: Taking lists of your 70 favorite albums until 7/1 (1 Viewer)

My initial “short” list was 150 albums, whittled down to 125.

I do have a clear top 10 and top 30, but my third tier of albums goes from 31-90 that I’ll somehow have to cut 20 out of.

I’ll be close to 90% from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

9 lists in.

The consensus #1 that I have been speaking about is still in the lead but is coming back to the pack a bit - now averaging 59.3 points for the 6 of 9 lists it appears on.

The top two albums so far are not "classic rock" although the #1 does get some play on classic rock stations.

The album that usually appears at the top of album rankings lists has a grand total of 4 points awarded by only one submission.

There have been 467 different albums submitted per the 9 lists (with one only 50 songs).

@KarmaPolice has the most albums that only appear on his list

My submission currently has the most albums in the Top 25 (17) - I was the first to enter my list. Tim is second with 14. Mookie has the least with 5.

The "non-chalk" album that received two Top 5 votes sits at 27 overall now.

There are 2 entries that have an album listed at #1 overall that appear on no other lists. Those albums are tied for 70th overall.

In addition to the #1 album appearing on 6 lists, the 2-4 ranked albums appear on 5 lists.

The highest ranked album appearing on only 2 lists sits at #25 overall.

No surprise I am the only King Diamond fan submitting a list. :lmao:

I basically stacked all the lists, scored them, and ran a pivot table. This makes it critical that albums submitted are spelled the same. By far most of my time was going through the list and correcting the naming of the shows.

I've spent a lot of time making sure titles and artists were accurate and spelled correctly. One of the big "issues" is which bands have or don't have "The" at the beginning of their names.

The worst offender submitted a list that had some song titles instead of album titles, left off some band names and said things like Artist X's second album - which I would then have to go look up.

Somehow I managed. :lmao:

I'm doing my personal favorite list and not giving a damn about popular opinion about what "deserves" to be ranked. I mean there are a lot of popular albums that I adore and will be mentioned, but they will probably be ranked lower. This probably means I will have lots of honorable mentions and many out of the top 300. That's fine.

I assumed this is what we were all doing.

Also meant to say I am not doing one album per artist. Seems like an arbitrary criteria. My favorite albums are my favorite albums and dont cease to be just because there is a duplicate artist.
Agree, my favorite bands are my favorite bands because I like their albums better than I do other artists.

What's the most albums anyone has from one group? I'm at 4 so far with one.
I have just under 100 songs that I need to condense down to 70. Still looking for ones I might have missed but from what I have so far I have 6 from one band, 5 from another and 4 from one more

Not sure they will all make the Final Cut though

You'll have to go deep into the band's catalog to pick The Final Cut

Can I list Godspeed You! Black Emperor songs as albums since a lot of them run long enough to be their own albums?

Nobody was this bad in the TV draft. Wow.

We've eliminated karma.

Still might tweak my list before submitting, but for now it looks like this:

60s - 1
70s - 20
80s . 21
90s - 22
00s - 4
10s - 2

My 5 MAD artists - 13 albums

4 albums - 3 groups
3 albums - 3 groups
2 albums - 7 groups

0 albums - some pretty big bands that are well liked here

And after all that I just remembered an album I forgot to include on my list.
Hence the tweaking. I’m still coming up with stuff I forgot.

I would have played with mine all month but I had to delve in early. When I get lists I see things I "missed" - but I can say I love and often listen to every album I ranked so it's all good.

The easy part is remembering what you missed but then you have to boot something off. That's tough, Rip those band aids off.

I'm probably going to use all the time that the good doctor has allotted us.

It'll be nice to get reacquainted with some old friends in the weeks ahead.
Good point. Not sure why I’m rushing to get done.
One of reasons was so I don't forget about our MAD project.

listen to the highest ranking 5 albums I have never listened to from each participant
This sounds like the way to go .
Maybe. Are you submitting a list?

:p
I sure am. Still coming up with contenders.

And then I get to learn Excel or Googledocs.
Lol. You'll be one step ahead of me. I still don't know how to use those thingies, so Doc not only got a list with mistakes, he got a crappy typed version with mistakes. I should have had the Mrs help me.

Compiling the lists was arduous in the book thread. This will be exponentially more difficult.

Thoughts and prayers.

So there was an album that appeared on the first three list submitted - which was a bit surprising - that I mentioned. It has not been on any of the six subsequent submissions.

How are you guys doing this? I know Dr. Oct said it was up to our discretion but this isn't like the no skip album thread where we think the whole thing is good or can I/should I put an album on there if I like maybe a track or 2 or should I really be just listing albums where I like it all?
Just like the TV show thread, I'm going with my personal favorite albums instead of what might be the "greatest" albums. I realize that critics would sneer at me for choosing Duran Duran's "Rio" over some critically acclaimed Suzanne Vega crap, but for me, she sucks. I can't listen to Bob Dylan either, so even though he's supposed to be great, and I'm sure him and Lou Reed and the Talking Heads will be way up on people's lists, I'm not considering anything by them or some of the other "great" artists because I can't listen to them. But those people probably don't have Molly Hatchett "Double Trouble" on their lists. I don't think there's a requirement that you have to like the whole album like the "no skip" thread. Alice in Chains "Facelift" was absolute fire for the first 8 songs, then by "I know Something About you" it started to sound like a Chili Peppers B-Side. But it's on my list because those first 8 or 9 songs were awesome. But you be you, make your own rules and I guess try to be as consistent as you can within your parameters.

And as appropriately titled as The Who's "Farewell Tour" in 1982.

The top 5 bands/artists that have the most different albums chosen so far would not shock anyone.

If we stretched that out to Top 10, there's one band in there that would be VERY surprising - unless you have some history with the participant that choose them all.

Hmmm I’m guessing it’s a fresh artist. Maybe not new per se but definitely young.
