Consensus Top 300 Albums of All-Time: Taking lists of your 70 favorite albums until 7/1 (1 Viewer)

The top 5 bands/artists that have the most different albums chosen so far would not shock anyone.

If we stretched that out to Top 10, there's one band in there that would be VERY surprising - unless you have some history with the participant that choose them all.
Hmmm I’m guessing it’s a fresh artist. Maybe not new per se but definitely young.
A 90s band like Pearl Jam maybe? Trying to think a band that would have a lot of albums available.

ETA: I guess that wouldn't be that surprising. Hmm.

You should figure this one out easily. 🤣

I don’t think Pearl Jam having multiple albums chosen would be all that surprising. They’re pretty popular here.

You’re the one that picked all of their albums.

Bear in mind we’re early in so a band that has three different albums chosen will be in the Top 10 of bands that have had the most different albums listed.

I think I’m sticking with my current list, so I’ll send in today before I give myself any more time to change my mind on things.

Looking at my list, I was surprised by the year most represented in my top 70:

1994 - 6 albums

2nd place - a 4 way tie between 1972, 1973, 1989, and 1992

Going in, I figured 1971 and 1991 would be at the top, but a few from each of these years just missed the cut. They both have 3 albums each, though, and are well represented in my top 20.

Thats where my mind went with the clue but i have a cap of 3 and couldn’t think of one that others would also have high up to elevate to the top 10, and be surprising.

How I'm doing this is first doing a rough ranking of what I think is the best album that may be worthy of inclusion on the list by a particular artist. Once my mind has come up with every artist that I think might have a qualifying album, I will sprinkle in any favorite albums by artists that already appear on the list. I'm still in the first phase.

Not a Top 10 album in the rankings - I was saying the top 10 bands ranked by how many different albums they have had selected thus far.

The Top band has had 7 different albums listed so far.

I think I’m done but might give it a day or two just in case

10 lists are in - only 30 points separating #1 and #2 now. The #2 now actually averages more points per submission but the #1 is on 7/10 submissions and #2 only 6/10.

I get that, but i took that to mean that the top 10 bands with most albums currently would have more than just my 3. But ones i voted for i would think others would as well either wouldn't be much of a surprise or dont have many albums. :loco:

Is it going to be a month of these clues i am too dumb to figure out??? ;)

Do we just PM our list to Dr Oct?
yes - preferably in an excel or google sheet.

Album - Artist - Points
Each in a singular field, right? And include the hyphens?
Each in their own field (no hyphens)

I was only adding hyphens here to show the next fiel

Ok, I though you might have been doing text to columns with a hyphen as the delimiter!
You over-estimate me.

I know I'll be submitting my list deep into the month. Got a top 40, but I need to work on sprinkling in another 30 from about 100 assorted albums . Going to take some time to make this worth the effort.

Attempted one per artist limit- felt I was reaching once around 50. So I attempted to break the limit- and now have 90some and I already deleted a buncha ones I didn't want to :bag:

Well, I tried. Sorry @Dr. Octopus for the mess I just sent. Can’t figure out how to paste in a table from my phone. Let me know if you need me to try again.

I had to do it in multiple posts to him
It doesn’t help one of my album titles is like 50 words long.

I have 2 at 8 words long both from the same band
I have a 10-word band name.
I counted my longest one -- 12.

I think I know this one

Not sure on this one

This is turning out to be a lot harder than I expected. I'm really trying to be as accurate as I can this time because as the top 70 TV show list was revealed, I realized some of my rankings were all over the place. Like, how did Knight Rider end up ahead of Hill Street Blues?

What’s surprising me most is how many bands I’ve always thought of as favorites don’t actually have a single album that is going to make the cut. Aerosmith, Skynyrd, Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire, Echo & the Bunnymen are all bands I played constantly, but they were always the greatest hits cassettes that never left my Walkman or car stereo. But looking back through their discography, I don’t see any individual albums that make the "desert island" criteria.

So yeah, it’s weird realizing how many big-name bands I’m leaving off. It feels a little betraying someone you always assumed you'd grow old with, except it turns out you were only in it for the mixtape.

Wow. I have four Aerosmith albums on my list at the moment.
