The board consensus ranking for the top 20 QBs was:

The winner, with an amazingly low score of 165, was BoltBacker, with this ranking:
Code:

The board consensus was 224, so BoltBacker wins $10. 16 members beat the board consensus, so basically, everyone with a pulse. For fun, I included the last preseason ranking of 6 Staff members (David and Joe, Pasquino, Rudnicki, Tremblay, Wood and Yudkin). I also included the FBG Staff Average of all staff members as of September 10th. The FBG Average was a very good 202 points. 7 people beat this score among message board members. Congratulations to Maurile Tremblay, who had the staff low score of 197.

Stats:

254 - Guess who? That Kerry Collins at 9 pick was just a teeny bit off. ;)

Thoughts:

Culpepper, Brooks and Simms all finished outside the top 40 and were on a lot of lists. Bledsoe, Green and Warner were also on lots of lists and finished just inside the top 40. Brees and Kitna were the big achievers.

I had to give him a 20 for that rank, otherwise he could have challenged for 2nd place. RB

The Board Consensus score was 193, so Beto will be getting $10. A total of 6 board members beat the Board Consensus. For fun, I included the last preseason ranking of 6 Staff members (David and Joe, Pasquino, Rudnicki, Tremblay, Wood and Yudkin). I also included the FBG Staff Average of all staff members as of September 10th. The FBG Average was an outstanding 186 points. Only Beto beat this score among message board members. Congratulations to Jason Wood, who matched Beto's 181 score and David Yudkin, who scored 185. They, along with Beto, are the only people to beat the FBG Staff Average.

Thoughts:

Everyone had the maximum 20 points for players who busted this year, such as Shaun Alexander, Cadillac Williams, LaMont Jordan and Clinton Portis. Ronnie Brown and Willis McGahee also had some high point totals.

A lot of the older RBs were neglected in the rankings, with Duece McAllister, Ahman Green, Fred Taylor and Corey Dillon all finishing in the top 20 but not listed on most entries.

Finally, I usually won't mention the worst entry but in this case since it's my good buddy H.K. and I'm still spending money trying to fix up this derelict house he sold me, I will use his poor showing to make a point about this contest.

Here is his entry:

1 C Taylor2 S Alexander3 C Portis4 L Johnson5 R Johnson6 R Brown7 L Tomlinson8 W Dunn9 E James10 D Rhodes11 C Williams12 F Gore13 T Jones14 J Jones15 S Jackson16 L Maroney17 R Bush18 L Jordan19 M Bell20 W LundyThis entry had the highest score, a 255. However, this high score and this contest in general does not actually measure fantasy football knowledge to a great degree. H.K. had the highest ranking of Chester Taylor (duh), but was one of 5 people to rank him as high as his 13 rank. Only 4 people ranked Cadillac Williams lower than he did, but Caddy's 39 rank still cost everyone 20 points. He tied with BassNBrew for the lowest ranking of LaMont Jordan, but Jordan's finish outside the top 40 still cost everyone 20 points. So the way this contest was run lead to some poor scores for him, but he was accurately higher on Taylor and lower on Caddy and Jordan than most people. This is more important when it comes to drafting a team in a fantasy football league. And I can confirm that because he beat BassNBrew, myself and 9 other people from this board to win our league for the 2nd straight year.

Thoughts:

Everyone had the maximum 20 points for Ben Troupe who busted this year. The difference between the scores usually came down to who ranked other players that busted this year, like Bubba Franks, Mercedes Lewis or Leonard Pope.

The TE position was even easier than the WR position to rank because there were so few big name busts or unexpected stars.

Special note for Chaos Commish, who managed to come in 4th even though his 17th ranked TE was someone called Chris Bird. I think he meant Chris Baker, who actually finished 18th, but I had to give him the full 20 points.

Thoughts:

Most people had the maximum 20 points for Michael Koenen who busted this year. Other poor finishers were David Akers, John Kasay, Mike Vanderjagt and SeaBass.

The PK position was very hard to rank this season with the out of nowhere guys like Gould and the older PKs who were high performers, like Hanson, Nedney and Carney.

IND, TB and WAS just killed folks in this one, as they finished the year 30-32. Most people had at least 2 of them, if not all 3, in their top 10.

The DEF position was very hard to rank this season with those 3 defenses going belly up and some unheralded defenses like SD, GB and MIN doing so well.

Special note for Lott's Fingertip and BoltBacker, who both nailed 2 DEFs. Apparently the Bears at 2 were the easiest to rank with 7 different folks getting them.

Thanks for doing this CB. Looking forward to seeing the results. Will you be posting all scores or just the winning scores?

I hadn't planned on it because I didn't want to "embarrass" guys that did poorly, other than H.K., but I can if you'd like.

I was just asking because I did not know what you were planning. I looked at my rankings earlier in the week and I have an idea about how poorly I did (especially in the WR category).

If you don't want to post the full results, how about:

- a link to the thread

- top five scores and names

- median/average score

- worst five scores (w/o names, to protect the not-so-inncoent)?

Sure, those are some good ideas. Let me add those to the first post for the RBs and then get back to working on the QBs.

Let's just say your score just missed being mentioned on the Bottom 5 list. :(

Thanks, CB.

This entry had the highest score, a 255.
Thinking about this, maybe the best way to score this next year is, instead of capping the differences at 20, treat every RB finishing at #40 or below as if they were #40. So HK would get 28 for Caddy, but anyone who had him in the top ten would get 29+. He'd get 22 for Jordan, but everyone else would get more.

Thanks, CB.

Next year? :thumbdown:Yeah, I was trying to save some work by capping the points at 20, but it would be more accurate to go beyond that to see just how far off someone is. On the other hand, I don't want to make one wrong player invalidate a entry. For example, two of the early entries had Dominick Davis/Williams. He's be ranked about 100 and that would completely throw away the rest of their entry.

BTW - 1/3 of the way through the QB results and BoltBacker has annihilated everyone so far. By like 31 points.

Top 3 I will take it.
Congrats! If I was richer I'd be giving out more prizes, but alas, I'm not.
 Construx is loaded, don't let anyone tell you differently!
BYOB for that Super Bowl party buddy.
See!?! The guy hoards all his cash!
BTW goodbuddy, just did your entry for the QB contest. Boy do you suck at these things. I should make you pay the winner.

I hope you can tweak this contest further next year. If you had used my rankings along with adp you would have avoided Alexander all together. Injury aside, he was still out of the top 10 on a ppg basis. Later in the first round the Carnell ranking would have killed you. If someone else had taken him you would have been good for the entire first round. Note the call on Jordan, Droughens, and Portis not listed. Looking at the second round, I think I had Parker and Westbrook ahead of most. Likely you would have had two stud RBs after two rounds. My 3rd round selections would have been totally worthless in most cases....Lewis, Foster, and Bell. Taylor late may have fixed the RB3 mess.

You have got to be the most superstitious person in history.
:toilet:Sad but true. Note this exchange in "Bull Durham": Crash Davis: I never told him to stay out of your bed. Annie Savoy: Yes you did. Crash Davis: I told him that a player on a streak has to respect the streak. Annie Savoy: Oh fine. Crash Davis: You know why? Because they don't - -they don't happen very often. Annie Savoy: Right. Crash Davis: If you believe you're playing well because you're getting laid, or because you're not getting laid, or because you wear women's underwear, then you ARE! And you should know that!

Special congrats to Chaos Commish, who nailed the most ranks at 5 (PManning, Palmer, Rivers, Roethlisberger and McNair), but left off a ranking for #16 in a cut and paste incident gone horribly wrong. I had to give him a 20 for that rank, otherwise he could have challenged for 2nd place.
That wasn't really a mistake. I was convinced there would be no #16 QB this season.

:confused:When then you'll hate the TE mistake. If you have typed Chris Baker instead of Chris Bird, you would have beaten Disco Stu by 1 point. Unless you really thought a player named Chris Bird would emerge as the 17th best TE this season?

:lmao: :goodposting: :hot: :hey:

Can't believe I did that well with Culpepper at #4.

I would have guessed that RB would have been stronger for me. Damn you Beto! If I could have finished #1 in QB and RB my board cred would have been through the roof!

It might be interesting to see a combined ranking and average for all the positions...
You and BoltBacker are doing an excellent job. There will be a wrap up thread after I do the DEFs.
Thanks ConstruxBoy, just wanted to let everyone know that ConstruxBoy is a man of his word and I did indeed receive a $10 check when he said he'd send it. Class act. If you're willing to do all the leg work for this again next season ConstuxBoy just wanted to let you know I'm willing to pay it forward for the QB category. You tabulate the winner of the QB rating and I'll cut a check for $15 and mail it to the name/address you provide. Keep up the good work. (guilty admission - every league I've ever been in I've proposed changing the rules so K wasn't even a position in the leauge so I'm a little surprised I did that well in K ratings) Interesting, I thought my TE rankings were going to be strong but didn't crack the top 5. WR is much more of a crap-shoot imo(after you get past the top 5-10) so if there was ONE position I didn't think I'd do well in I would have guessed it was WR.

Bumped for DEF rankings. BoltBacker takes it again. Congrats.

Thread on my reason for doing this contest to follow.
