Contesting parking ticket in NYC (1 Viewer)

Parked between two cars last week. I didn't see any signs on any poles. Came back to car to find a ticket. I looked around again for signs and it turns out there was one like 15 ft in the air nailed on the scaffolding b/c they were doing construction on the building. Do I have any grounds to fight this thing or should I just forget it and pay the $95?

In my dealings with them, just pay the money and be done with it
Yeah, I was leaning that way as well. Wanted to make sure they weren't reasonable about this and were willing to cut me a break. Like in my dealings with whoever does the EZ Pass in NJ, they always seem to cut you a lot of slack.

You can fight it online... Honestly, if there was a sign, regardless of how stupid the placement, you'll prob lose and have to pay a surcharge.

I'd just pay the ticket.

On my block, right by my house there is a small private garage... On the street there is some space between the entrance to the garage and a lightpost. I know the owner has been complaining for years how some people get to close and it is hard to get in and out. About two weeks ago at nighttime I walk past a car parked half in front of this lightpost, but still ample space for the driveway and not blocking it at all. The next morning I see a ticket on the car and a brand new "No Parking" sign next to the lightpost... That sign wasn't there the night before. The garage owner finally won, but I felt pretty bad for the guy with a ticket as that sign was not there the night before when he parked. Unfortunately, I'd bet he lost trying to fight that one too.

When it comes to all the construction-related issues (including scaffolding), from what I've heard their thought process is that the sign could be 1000 feet in the air, and you should have still seen it.

I have a friend who fights every ticket- and usually wins- because the cop who issues the ticket doesn't show up. He was talking about specific judges being more or less accommodating.

Sounds like if you took a picture of where your car was with the less-than-visible sign and go to court, you've got a good shot at winning.

I don't think the meter maids show up for these or are supposed to? For moving violations I know the cop has to be there, but I think you just go to the parking ticket bureau for these types of violations... That has been my experience in Brooklyn Heights. I'm 1 for 3 in fighting parking tickets :kicksrock:

That was another question I had. Fighting this involves me having to go to court? You can dispute it online and upload any evidence which I have none. I was hoping that meant some judge would just review it and get back to me with his decision. If it involves court, then forget it as I'd have to travel back to the city.

The smart ### in me was thinking that I guess if they attached that sign to the tenth floor, I'm naturally supposed to check there as well.

I fought a ticket in NYC because they said my inspection expired 9/31/2013 and I said there was no such date. I won
