Corey Dillon & 2007 (1 Viewer)

While he still seems to have a bit of gas left in the tank, my guess is that he's cut in the offseason to make room for Maroney. If he decides to continue playing, perhaps he goes to another team in a RBBC/short yardage specialist capacity (e.g., Pittsburgh).

If Dillon is done being a primary back, he will have to take less money no matter where he plays. If he has to take less money anyway, I don't see why he wouldn't stick around in N.E., especially if the Pats are winning with a Dillon/Maroney combo at RB. Dillon's stats are on par with Maroney's with Dillon generally getting yards in tougher (short yardage) situations.

Dillon is signed for 3 more seasons at $2.5 million per season. IIRC, he's restructured his contract twice since coming to the Pats, so I am not sure what the cap implications would be if he were released.

With the production he is giving the Pats his cap price is a bargain and he gives them the comfort of knowing if Maroney goes down the running game would be able to survive.

So, the opinon is so far, he will see a decreased role in 2007, either as a SY guy somewhere, or as a backup to Maroney?

If healthy and productive, Dillon could again split time with Maroney. If he's effective, there would be no reason to change what has helped the team to a 5-1 record.

A Dillon/Maroney combo is good for everyone from a non fantasy perspective.

Maroney gets eased in and plays in a very effective.efficent offense while playing along side of an experienced, veteran back.

Dillon does not wear down over the course of the year, gets his touches, gets his moments in the spotlight and remains a key player on offense.

The Pats get two different style runners that are both talanted and effective in their own right and this situation only takes pressure off of Brady and in turn gives the Pats a better chance at a super Bowl Run.

I think that, at least for the next few years .... everyone loves this situation (short of FF owners).

:goodposting: Can't argue with anything there.

Dillon and 2007 don't seem to go well together

Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if we let his big contract go. I'd like to have him to work with Maroney but I'm not sure if that's wise referring to the cap. BTW I still like Pass as a backup
