Cornerbacks? (1 Viewer)

Everyone knows the rookie corner theory. They also know to look at starting a corner that is opposite a shut down corner on the other side. I would love to hear some thoughts on how corners perform against passing teams vs rushing teams. Or, when playing from behind vs playing with the lead. Are they going to score more fantasy points in either situation. It might help me out when considering who to start etc. I really don't know, but I would think they would score better when playing with the lead (Because the other team is forced to throw the ball) and against passing teams. I may be wrong though, maybe they rack up more tackles coming up on run support against running teams. I'd be interested in hearing everyone's thoughts on this.

There's an thread around on scheme - it might be part of the pinned post listing threads above.

Cover 2 corners who can tackle are good. See Ronde Barber & Dunta Robinson.

This discussion didn't take place in a thread about corners, but it sort of became one.

Good read
I liked your idea on matchups there, but I haven't really tried playing corner matchups at my first year in IDP dynasty when I had a whole lot of suck at DB on the roster I took over. Do you see anyone on my DB roster below that you think I should look to replace with a flyer CB? We start 4 DB in a full 11 man IDP lineup with 7 offense & a PK. I have a deal in the works to move McCree to shore up elsewhere, and I will free up a roster spot or 2:Boulware, Michael SEA S

Collins, Nick GBP S

Harper, Roman NOS S ®

McCree, Marlon SDC S

Robinson, Dunta HOU CB

Whitner, Donte BUF S ®

Wilson, Gibril NYG S

Thanks CC, that was an excellent read. I guess I'm curious about your thoughts on how you play matchups. I picked up Charles Woodson off the FA wire last week, and am going to start him this week against the Bears. In my league we have to start 2 CB's. My other choices are Jason Webster ATL (Don't know how much he plays or gets targeted because of the rookie), B. Kelly TB, Surtain KC (Who I'm thinking about making my other starter, he should get some looks with Law on the other side.)

I don't think Surtain fits what he's aiming for. 2 big name guys who have good reps may not be what you want.Kelly from Tampa could be a nice choice. The cover 2 is a plus for corners.

I don't know that there is a reliable way to play corner matchups in a lot of situations. When you're dealing with corners who don't fit a consistent profile like the ones discussed in another thread, you're trying to predict things like interceptions, passes defended, and targets which, IMO, is really difficult. If you must decide between options like those you have, I suppose you can look at who's healthiest and who's more likely to cover a receiver who gets targeted often in addition to thinking about the skill of the opposite corner, etc.In this case, Jason Webster probably will see some decent targets opposite DeAngelo Hall, but it's questionable whether he'll be able to take advantage. Brian Kelly is a Tampa-2 corner, but he'll be a little inconsistent (great ball skills but questionable in run support). Surtain may get a few more looks this season opposite Law but isn't a big boxscore guy. Woodson will get targeted opposite Al Harris but again has been questionable in run support.IMO, I'd look at the opposing passing game and start the corners you think will be targeted the most (on a frequently targeted receiver, team likely to be behind) by a quarterback likely to be mistake prone. This week, that's probably Woodson and Webster (if Smith plays to get looks against Keyshawn) or Surtain (he's a better player than Kelly). But I'm not really confident about corner matchups to be honest. Somebody else may have a more reasoned opinion.
