Could the Bills be the breakout offense of 2014? (1 Viewer)

He doesn't even seem to do well in practice, it's hard to believe he's going to do well in the games.
When you are the starter and you stink in practice, it's a great sign that you will be awful in real games. I don't know why anyone would think Manuel could be an NFL caliber QB. It was an awful pick by Buffalo. They will stink as long as they hang onto this guy hoping he figures it out. I pretty much have ignored Buffalo players for the last decade.
I'm an FSU fan and Bills fan...I thought it was a terrible pick too. Manuel is just a big body that teams fell in love with. The guy wasn't even all that good in college...mediocre. And this BS illusion that he was a "running QB"...no, he's Leftwich 2.0. Locks on to his targets, poor mechanics, can't read a defense, etc. As a matter of fact, I'd rather have Leftwich than Manuel.

Do I hope he figures it out quick? Sure...for the Bills and since I like to root for FSU players. But I'm not seeing it.

Do you really think that a team that loads up on bills has a better chance to win than a team that loads up on broncos or packers?
While I don't really agree they will be a break-out offense, there is a big difference between "breaking out" and being a top 2 or 3 offense. Finishing at the end of the top 10 would still be a breakout, IMO, since they were bottom 10 last year (I think).

Doesn't FBG's predict this the past three years now.

They are running the ball a ton because EJ stinks. They are babying him even more now. He'll have a few deep shots that are overthrown or out of bounds. Tuel can actually hit a deep throw he has all camp. Otherwise Tuel is pretty terrible too.

Just noticed this thread. It's pretty funny reading thru it.

You have homers bringing up Drew Brees (which has been a staple of Bills boards since at least the JP Losman era) - pretending like a great QB such as him taking a few years wasn't a big outlier, at least in the modern era.

Then you have the venomous and slightly less ridiculous argument from the opposition that Matt Barkley being a disaster is somehow proof that Chip Kelly is the puppet to the great Nick Foles pulling the strings.

Good waste of 20min's of my life.

Thank you for wasting my time telling me that.

Watching weeks 1 and 2 seeing EJ take some small steps in his development was nice.

Not sure what he is yet but still laughing at all the know-it-alls who could tell he is a bust after his first 10 starts!

Incorrect, Brees, Rodgers, Rivers, A.Smith all took time to develop. All top 32 selections. 4 out of 32 NFL starting QBs right now. Varying degrees of success. No one is saying EJ is the next Brees, but I just can't help but laugh at the people who think they "know" he is a bust after 10 starts in the NFL.

You have no idea that Rodgers wouldn't have been good right away. With all due respect to any politically correct quote linked from the Milwaukee Journal that may be out there about learning from Favre or whatever...chances are he would've been.

Smith, ok ya he's a starting qb I guess so good for him.

Rivers was 14-2 in his first year with what was admittedly a stacked team but still...there weren't many growing pains there.

So ya I'll stick with Brees being a big exception.

He sat on the bench his first 2 seasons actually.

I know. So your three examples are guys who didn't play and Alex Smith.

If only the Bills redshirted Jeff Tuel last year he'd be a star by 2017 I'm sure.

Nope, but keep being snarky acting like you know everything. My point is simple, the book has just started with Manuel, yet so many are writing him off. It's too early to tell and anyone saying otherwise thinks much too highly of themselves and their ability to evaluate.
