Cowboys Cut Gurode (1 Viewer)

Dallas sucked last year for one main reason, their offensive line.

Getting rid of all of those chumps is the way go.

Being a probowl really means squat for olinemen, they are all picked based on their name over the years, once a probowler, you are a probowler until cut.

I also wanted to say no one is saying Costa is going to be all pro. Based on production/salary this was a great move Gurode wasnt the same guy and him waiting to have the surgery was not well recieved by Garrett and co.

These are the same moves that the Eagles and Pats make frequently. Cutting a guy at the right time or maybe a half season too early.

It keeps guys honest and gets rid of the entitlement the Cowboys have been plagued by for years.

I am becoming less excited about a playoff berth for this team, but sometimes these moves have a way of working out.

Heck, I remember thinking what the heck about an unknown kid named Nate Newton being brought in.

Thanks for the props, guys. There are a lot of quality posters on this board, including yourselves. But its nice to be recognized every now and then.

And FWIW, I missed on Bennett too. Guy is a big freaking tease. Just oodles of natural ability. And they tried for a short time to really work him in. But it seems they moved away from that. Oh well.

Dumb move by an arrogant owner. I encourage everyone to pull up the Charlie Rose interview Jones did a week or two ago with Richardson from Carolina next to him. I knew Jones was like Davis but he actually sits there and I think truly lets his guard down to Rose on that interview. I knew Jones acted like he was the GM, I didn't know he actually is the team's GM. It explains a lot.

Dallas could not afford to cut Gurode IMO, and they will take a big step back as a unit. Terrible news for Dallas skill position players. I would have called their bluff. Gurode will be picked up very quickly if his phone isn't ringing already. New Orleans can upgrade from Olin Kreutz now. ARIZONA would also be a nice landing spot for him.

Dumb. Sure Dallas had to cut salary but who is the GM that waited until the last minute to figure out his OLine is suspect? That's right, Jerry Jones.

GL Dallas
Local word is that this was a 100% Jason Garrett move. He came in with an attitude that every position is open for competition, and is really adhering to it. Gurode was the last of the old "Fat Cats" (Williams, Davis, Barber...) that had been keeping their positions the last couple of years based on salary and reputation, not play. I'm sure opening up some money was a factor, but I really think it has more to do with Garrett trying to change the culture of the team.
I love getting rid of these aging players. Dallas was overrated last year and getting rid of these players in decline is the best thing they could do.

The cap savings can be pushed into next year as they have 20 mil in dead cap money.

I think we starting to see more of the master plan and why we didnt see signings for a veteran LG or high end safety.

I would like to see some of the fat cats on defense get the same.

Bradie James....I'm talking to you.

Newman as well.

Igor Olshansky is about good as gone. James and Newman, would not completely surprise me. I suspect they both stay, given the lack of depth behind them, especially James.

The Baltimore Ravens reached a one-year agreement with Andre Gurode, pending a physical to be taken Monday.

The five-time Pro Bowler was let go by the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason in what was classified as a salary cap cut.

“We just got better as a team,” said Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome. “To have a successful season, you have to have quality depth across the board. We just added great depth to the interior of our offensive line with Andre.”
