Cowboys Release TO (2 Viewers)

Citing "two sources," ESPN's Michael Smith reports that the Cowboys have released Terrell Owens.

If so, they're getting the move out of the way early. Owens' $3.1M roster bonus wasn't due until June. The move results in a small cap hit, but saves Jerry Jones $5.77 million in cash. Owens still has a lot left -- he averaged 18.9 yards per catch and scored five touchdowns in the Cowboys' last eight games. He'll likely draw interest from the Raiders. Teams needy at receiver but not expected to pursue him include Chicago, Philadelphia, and Miami.

Does Austin start now or will it be a FA/early draft pick? I think Austin passed Crayton late last year.

What if he does a "I'm all about the game and offers to play in NE??" for the league minium? no I have not been hitting the pipe...

Honestly Roy Williams has talent he just is inconsistent. T.O. slacked off, but there are only a handful of teams that will not want him, a majority will at least toy with it. There are several teams he could add 3-5 wins per season.

Horrible move by the Cowboys
An excellent and necessary move by Dallas. I don't think you understand what you're talking about.
I know exactly what I'm talking about...he was in the bottom 5 of the Cowboys' problems.
Hyperbole. He is a big ### problem who is no longer a problem. Good riddance.
If you don't see the downgrade they now have on offense...seriously? Romo takes a pretty big hit in Dyansty Leagues, and you can bet whoever the QB is wherever TO will sign is going to surge in terms of numbers. Now if you want to simply talk about losing an atitude on the team, fine, but Dallas takes a major step back in being able to put up points. What WR has had more TD catches than TO the past 2-3 years while he has been in Dallas? Last 10 years in the NFL? Very short list if any at all. Not piling on you but can you be a little more honest about TO and his talent?

Really? Are you saying that the Cowboys were a 4-6 win team last year without him?

Miles Austin's stock just went from $5 to at least $12.50 for the time being...till they have something better he is it. I don't even see how you can project Roy's numbers as he was terrible there last year, maybe he does better this year. Miles has been working with Romo longer and certainly was finding the end zone...of course all WR will be wide open when you had the combo of Jason Witten and Terrell Owens on the field at the same time...that part of the equation should not be discounted.

What did I ever say about his talent? He is a very gifted 35 year old WR. No dispute there.Very happy with this news.

ya don't suppose Dallas and Arizona had a deal cookin' and just waiting for Warner to sign before Boldin is dealt to Dallas?? San Fran may have looked better to Warner if the Cards dealt Boldin before he signed just out of spite. and more cash too.

Warner knows there wouldn't be another run without all the pieces in place in the desert.

just thinkin',,,,

He pulls the safety and gets doubles... you have to game plan him and respect him. His worst trait is that he thinks he is the greatest and that causes him to drop passes. Think about all those drops last year... those have gotten worse with all his bs.... he is a very good receiver and pair him with Moss... OMG........ add Tom Brady, Fred Taylor... and Bilicheck....It won't happen TO is an ego case, but if I were his agent I would say 1 year in NE... with heavy incentives.

I am sorry but this cannot be true. Clayton from ESPN just reported last week that Dallas had decided to keep TO so....

Are we saying that ESPN is contradicting ESPN? Way to prove that being right is far far below being first.

I think I will have to wait for a more reliable source than ESPN to report it before I believe it.

:excited:

I don't want to speak for the guy, but he appears to be talking about the real-life Cowboys and not their fantasy prospects. Once Dallas made the trade for Roy Williams (for good or bad) they had to get rid of TO. Better to have less overall talent at WR than to have two wide receivers grumbling about their lack of receptions and fighting with the QB and tight end. Not to mention the struggles with Garrett.

I agree that he's still a very talented receiver, but 3-5 wins for almost any play is patently absurd.

I'm thinking something is up here, as well. I am thinking the Cards need RB help and need to get rid of Boldin. The Cowboys now need Boldin and have 3 RBs whom they love. Speculation (wild speculation) would be a Marion Barber type deal, tying together some of the cryptic comments Jerry made earlier today/yesterday.Hmmm....either way, I feel cleansed not having TO on this team any longer. Hated him from Day 1. Cheered when he got his popcorn and TDs, but I still hated that mfdb.

How many games was Dallas within a TD last year? 1 big play away? I am not the type of stat geek that has that handy, but I know it was close. How many TD's did he drop in critical games? I know the Philly game he dropped numerous balls. The impact of a player is not always their individual stats in a game, but what they dictate the competition do to defend them. He is worth a TD and a FG a game, at least if I am the GM.

Good Now the Eagles can do the right thing and sign him up. Last time Owens wore a Eagle uniform they were 7-2. The Eagles need a malcontent.

yup, we're on the same page. some kind of MBIII/Boldin deal is what I was thinking too.

 Last stop on the "Malcontent Express" as always...

Honestly as a GMEN fan i would welcome Owens.

He knows they are a great team without him and one infraction he will be cut.

If he comes to NY he would be on best behavior

Jerry is fixing the chemistry.... and next year bringing in Shanny...... Wade is a waiter, not a chef. He can deliver the meal, not prepare it, just can't get the spices right.

And it's not very late in Oakland yet. Al may be on the phone as I type ;)

That's what every team says before he gets there. But... Since I hate the Giants, I would be more than happy to see him try and prove your theory right.

Best spot for him as far as need would be Tennessee or Oakland.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Raiders end up with him.
