If you are desperate for a RB, Tanner will get touches the next couple of weeks. This is also good news for Murray owners. Looks like the Cowboys feel pretty good about him as the primary ball carrier.

Yeah. I picked him up and got his 253 last week. holding down my enthusiasm on him right now until after this week. he goes for over 100 this week and I am in.I do have to start him again with Hillis and Tolbert out so we will see. Tanner is definately the 3rd in line now and if Murray takes a step back he could find himself with 10 or so carries.

I already grabbed Phillip Tanner (In 32 team dynasty) earlier this week. Man I feel bad for T.Choice but feel great for my team.

Choice is sure to land somewhere quickly with all the RB injuries teams are having out there. Lions maybe? has to be better than Morris.

AWESOME news break dude. Saved me in a league where I needed a RB with Forte on BYE and Ingram out.

I feel bad for Choice, but this was the best thing for him. He's a good RB. Short term, would love to see him go to Detroit. I wonder if Cleveland or Cincy will take a look.

Yeah, he never really got a chance except for those few games he got due to injury and he performed well. I picked up Tanner in most of my leagues after seeing this on Rotoworld.

I might even pick up Choice too if he gets picked up somewhere else, but worried about his injuries now, too bad he didn't get traded before the deadline.

Wow, huge move on a Saturday afternoon before a huge SNF tilt against the Eagles.

It's obvious the writing was on the wall with Choice in Dallas, but I wonder what is more telling - their confidence in Tanner, or their belief that Felix will be back soon? Regardless, Tanner is a must add as he is one injury away from being a starting RB, at least until Felix returns.

Dunno why folks feel "bad" for Choice ...he obviously fell out of favor in Big D, was feeling the heat from 2 rooks, and still had Jerr-uhh's mancrush (Felix) to contend with  And now he moves on. So be it.

As far as the Dallas sitch ... guess this means Felix may be back sooner than we think, no? For the interim, Tanner makes a great stash and spec, given the volatility of that backfield.

As a cowboy fan, I'm pretty ticked if JJ turned down offers for Choice when he could trade him. He kept saying they weren't trading him...

But he won't be missed. His talent is average, he is overblown on these boards.

dont know about that hoss, I still see him on a lot of waiver wires out there in 12 man non dynasty leagues.
Choice is on a few rosters in my leagues. Sutton isn't on any. I think Sutton has more talent than Choice.Edited: You mean Tanner? Wow, he's not on any WW in all my leagues.

Cowboys waived RB Tashard Choice.

A surprising decision on the surface, but Choice's recent health woes were making it increasingly difficult to overlook his lack of production. His dismal Week 7 performance as fourth-stringer Phillip Tanner went for 34 yards on only six carries was likely the final straw. Over his past 22 games, Choice has averaged just 3.4 yards on 94 carries while contributing nothing in the passing game. Depending on how DeMarco Murray performs against the Eagles, Dallas could be looking at a backfield that uses Murray as the feature runner, Felix Jones as the third-down back and Tanner as a short-yardage specialist once Jones is over his shoulder issues.

Well how can't you feel bad for him? As a 3rd stringer all you can hope for is 1). A chance to prove yourself, and 2). Do well once you get that chance. Choice never disappointed when he was featured and it didn't earn him much more than a spot back on the bench. Not shooting the messenger, Texican, but those 94 carries stated above probably go back almost 2 seasons. 3 or 4 carries a game for 2 years isn't an average indicative of his ability. I'm not blowing his talent out of proportion here, but I'll be happy to see him get more of a chance somewhere else.

... and therein you kinda proved my point ... he was buried in Dallas, two guys they are high on were drafted this year ... FELIX ... so, now he gets a shot somewhere else to prove himself. Hell, probably the best damn thing for his career ...... would feel bad for a guy if he suffered a devestating injury ... but getting cut?

Hmmm..earlier this morning I waived Choice from my dynasty roster (after holding him for 3 years) and picked up TB practice squad's Chad Spann. Then I see Dallas cut Choice so I figure what the heck, might as well pick him back up and see where he lands, and proceeded to drop Spann.

can't see Tanner getting more than a few carries. I don't know what the rush is to get Tanner when Fragile Felix is due back soon.

I've been hyping Tanner since the preseason. The guy can really play, and should put up low end RB 2 numbers even with Murray. If Murray were to go down he could be a RB 1.

I don't even know how Tanner is startable with Murray - the Cowboys don't run the ball enough.

He got the goal line carry last week. A stat line like 12 for 62 and a TD on the ground, and 3 for 19 a TD receiving is very possible.

I respectfully disagree. No way is Tanner startable yet. Sure, he will surprise a little bit, but who wants to take that risk?

last week was an anomaly, STL had no chance to win and thus the rushing attempts were up - when they play a real team they will go back to pass mode.

I believe that was after Murray pulled himself out to take a breather. The pass/run ratio will not be as skewed as last week. It'll be a smaller amt of carries to be split this week and beyond.

Why did DeMarco Murrey get the first opportunity over Phillip Tanner?

View Post gethugefast1, on 28 October 2011 - 07:05 PM, said:

Going forward this year only, can you rank them?

Ridley - BJGE a little banged up, could have turf toe, admitted playing hurt... Ridley was the feature back on the first drive, giving way to fellow rookie Shane Vereen on just one snap. From the second quarter on, though, Ridley was limited to kickoff returns with BenJarvus Green-Ellis taking over as the lead back.

Tanner - Jones & Choice a little banged up, Murrey ahead of him, but 1 or 2 fumbles or injury... Coach Jason Garrett was pleased with Phillip Tanner's performance in garbage time against the Rams last week. "He did a real nice job," Garrett said. "You guys have heard me talk about guys taking advantage of the opportunities they get and Phillip has done that since Day One. ... We handed him the ball six times yesterday and he was productive with that." With Tashard Choice (shoulder) banged up, Tanner could move up to No. 2 on the depth chart for this week's game against the Eagles.

Hunter - Gore playing well, but he has already surpassed half of the carries he had last year in six games. While this might be great for a second or third year man, Gore is no spring chicken. The trend will not continue or the wheels will fall off the bus.

Ivory - Ingram a little banged up, Thomas meh, Sproles situational... Ivory came in last year and did what we're looking for this year.

Not me. At this juncture, Tanner is nothing more than a desperation bye-week or injury fill-in (assuming there is nothing better on the waiver wire). You might get a few points but currrently this is a player you would not want to have to count on. That of course could change as the season progresses, but Tanner's real value at the moment is in dynasty leagues.

Waldman was all over this with Tanner, and Jerry Jones has openly gushed about him. Murray had some durability issues, and if those crop up again I think Tanner will get the nod. Felix has disappointed me. . .I think his vision is poor. The games I have watched him, he has disappointed in his reads.
