Cower has NEVER won a road playoff game (1 Viewer)

Are you suggesting that the loss of Carson Palmer had no impact on the game? Are you suggesting such a loss should have been seriously taken into consideration?

I feel terrible for Cincinnati. They deserved better.
The Bengals defense was simply unable to stop the Steelers offense, led by the slumping "huge problem" QB Ben Roethlisberger. Kitna put up 17 points in the first half and twice gave the Bengals double-digit leads. The Bengals defense is going to need to improve if their going to win in the playoffs, regardless of who their QB is.Cowher and his coaching staff did an outstanding job, making the necessary adjustments on defense at halftime and great play calling on offense.

The classy thing for you to do would be to give him some credit on a job well done but I wouldn't bet on it.
Well, with Palmer out and Kitna in, it doesn't take a genius of a head coach to realize that you switch gears to now stop the run and make Kitna beat you. So while they did make the right adjustments, I don't know that I would call it 'outstanding'.

Hey, don't jump all over me. I was simply responding to Evilgrin's statement:

"Steeler fans don't typically buy tickets from the box office for road games, they buy them from ticket holders who are willing to part with their seats for a premium"

That sounded a bit snobbish to me. I really don't have a vested interest in who wins the PIT vs CIN game.
How was that snobbish? It's a fact that most NFL teams don't have single-game tickets available for purchase on game day - almost all tickets are sold through season packages. I am one of those Steeler fans that takes any opportunity to go support the team on the road when I can, and I have never gotten a ticket anywhere other than in the parking lot from a season ticket holder who has an extra seat or two to move, or from a ticket broker. It doesn't just apply to Steelers fans, it applies to any team's fans that want to go to away games. the Steelers just happen to "travel" better than anyone else because their fans are passionate, and nationwide. What is snobbish about this?

Other than the 20 yard run by Johnson, the Steelers pretty much shut down the Bengals running game from the start. It was Kitna that was ripping them in the 1st half but adjustments were made (actually dropping more guys in coverage) and the Steelers defense took over. And you made no mention of the excellent play calling when the Steelers had the ball. Cowher has a reputation of being predictable but the Steelers opened up the play book and took some risks on offense.

I thought the Steelers coaching staff did a nice job yesterday.

Is this really considered a road game for the Steelers?  Cowher is 11-3 in his career at Cincy, surrounded by

:towelwave:   :towelwave:   :towelwave:   :towelwave:   :bag:   :bag:   :towelwave:   :towelwave:   :towelwave:
Pretty sure playoff tickets for this game were made available in cincy loooooong before Pitt fans even knew they'd be in the playoffs. They'd be lucky to have any tickets left to buy.
Most teams don't have a lot of single-game tickets available during the regular season either. Steeler fans don't typically buy tickets from the box office for road games, they buy them from ticket holders who are willing to part with their seats for a premium. That's why Steeler fans are the best fans in the league, as they've said on TV and Sirius radio a number of times in the past few weeks. With the Packers having an awful year, the Steeler fans have really stepped to the fore in terms of supporting the team on the road.
Evil,Serious question for you. Is there anything out there in terms of what Pro teams travel the best. I'm curious what the results would be. What I can say is i travel to one Patriots away game every year and it seems like more often then not there are a great ## of Pats fans every place I go to. With that being said, I think it's fair to say the :towelwave: would be near, if not on top of, said list.

Nice W Today. I for one would like to see another Home game this year so good luck in Indi.
I don't know where you'd find a stat on this. I listen to Sirius NFL radio a lot and a couple of the hosts this year said that based on two criteria : how much fan support each team gets on the station from callers, and how many of each team's fans are in evidence at road games, that the Steeler fan base has been a clear-cut #1 this year. The Packers also have a huge following, but I'm sure Packer fans were less tempted to shell out their hard earned $$ to see a team that had 3 wins on the season, so I'm sure it was just a down year for them.As far as the Pats go, I imagine they're towards the top and climbing. Boston is a populous city, and one with very passionate sports fans. Given the success of recent years, you'll have no shortage of Johnny-come-lately fans too that latch on to the teams success. Where you'll really see fan support burgeon is years down the road, though. After all those flavor-of-the-month faux-fans are long gone, kids growing up and discovering the NFL in this era are going to be in large part, Patriot fans, based on how well they're doing now. A LOT of Steeler fans, on this board and elsewhere, grew up and discovered football during the Steelers heyday in the late 70's, and I think 20 years from now you'll see a similar nationwide following for the Pats from people who discovered the NFL in the last few years.

This just demonstrates how stupid those little "Shanahan is 0-3 without Elway" and "Cowher is 0-3 on the road" stats are.

If a coach is a good coach, he's going to be able to win games. End of story. Also, 3 games can easily be a quirk of chance rather than a meaningful trend.

I suspect someone is now going to say that Cowher is 0-3 on the road in games where the other starting QB throws more than one pass, or some other such nonsense.

See, that is the problem. Instead of trying to have a genuine discussion about football, your focus is on trying to tear others posters down, who has class, who doesn't, etc. That makes it so difficult to have a serious around here at times. The best I can tell you is with Palmer in there I pick the Bengals. Without Palmer, I'd pick the Steelers.

It's common for people to have that opinion. Thing is, the Steelers put up 31 points yesterday and could've easily had more, and they did it while averaging about 11 yards per pass ATTEMPT and over 4 yards per rush. To say a healthy Palmer would've won the game isn't really fair, and we'll never know if he would have or not. If the Bengals want to be a championship calibre team, they need a much better defense.

Regardless, the Steelers won the game and Cowher and his staff did an excellent job calling plays and adjusting.

No, the real problem is you don't like Cowher and you refuse to admit he coached a pretty good game yesterday. Just like you don't like Roethlisberger and haven't given him credit when he played a pretty flawless game. If you are going to knock these guys you should at least give them credit for a job well done. I am still waiting. And where in the heck did I try to tear other posters down? All I said was the classy thing to do would be to admit that you were wrong yesterday. Every discussion I have ever had with you was concerning football (usually defending the Steelers in one way or another).

As far as picking the Bengals with Palmer goes you may indeed be right that the Steelers would have lost yesterday had he not gotten hurt. We'll never know but it is not like an unheard of thing for the Steelers to go into Cincinnati and beat the Bengals, even with Palmer.

We can all speculate what would have happened if Palmer finished the game. He didn't and the Bengals lost by 14. Look at the Bengals other key cogs, none stepped up in Palmer's absence:Rudi Johnson: 13 carries for 56 yardsChad Johnson: 4 catches for 59 yardsT.J. Houshmandzadeh: 4 catches for 25 yardsInteresting that CJ talked alot earlier in the year about a suprise TD celebration he had planned for the Steelers. Turns out after 3 games against the Steelers we're still waiting to see it.

BGP is awfully sour. Got to be tough seeing the Browns two biggest rivals playing a meaningful football game in January.

This doesn't even make sense. How can the receivers step up when the QB struggles to get them the ball? How can a RB step up with 13 touches? It's not like he wasn't successful with those touches. Teams don't run when they are behind. The offense revolves around the QB. To fault the offense for the loss of their QB is asinine.

Let me slow this down for you. Kitna completed 60% of his passes, is that struggling to get WRs the ball? Neither CJ or Housh helped him out by making a big play. 4th WR Ken Walter had 5 catches for 73 yards.

BPG was proved wrong so instead of sacking up and admitting it, he resorts to name calling. It's a Cleveland thing.

Thanks guys. I make no secret that I am a Steelers homer and so when people take a shot at them I will defend them if I think the criticism isn't justified. I may make a joke or sarcastic remark from time to time but I don't ever remember calling anyone names. In this particular case I am not sure what set off BGP. He has made numerous posts about how Cowher chokes in the playoffs and how Ben plays his worst football towards the end of the season and in the playoffs. I just thought he might want to admit that Cowher coached a good game last week and that Ben's play was pretty much flawless.

My guess is that if the Steelers pull off the upset and beat the Colts we won't be hearing a whole lot from BGP but if the Steelers lose he'll be around to rub our nose in it saying how Cowher chokes in the playoffs or that Ben is a huge problem.
