I am getting benefits from using my cpap, but the thing about it that bothers me the most is how the side where the tube meets the mask kind of pulls the mask to that side, and that makes the seal not as good as it can be. It also blocks my vision (the tube) from seeing my tv. Just one eye, but still...

I need my tv before I go to bed. I need a strap or something to hold the tube to the top of the mask or something. I might try to rig something up.
I used the Swift FX that was mentioned in the prior post, and then I tried this one...

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! On my side, or other wise this thing just does not leak. It's got minimal straps so it doesn't stress the nasal pillows. When I order it a couple months back it came with "free insurance". The insurance basically let's you return the mask for a full refund and they usually charge for this. Since this one had free I thought what the heck and ordered one.

So glad I did. Best mask I've ever had and it's not even close.
Mine isn't bad but it's not great. I just ordered this one based on your recommendation. I'll report back.

:blackdot: :(

Started on CPAP machine about 2 weeks ago. Pressure setting is 16 which feels suffocating. I can go to sleep OK during ramp but have thrown it off every night about an hour and a half into my sleep.

I'll try to continue and hope it gets better. For now, do not like.
It's really tough to get used to. I remember that suffocating feeling but it goes away. Have you tried lowering the pressure a bit? Mine is at 14.

16 is high. Can you adjust it? Try lowering it to 10 or so and see if you can at least stay asleep. Maybe you can slowly increase it over time.
The setting is prescribed by a doctor and there is no user control to adjust that number. At least that is the case with mine.
Pffffft. This is the Internet. Just Google your machine type and "adjust" and you'll find it. On mine, you push both buttons at once to open the "secret" settings.

This.

You need a machine with "exhale relief". If you have this, you don't need "ramp" to get to sleep because it let's up when you exhale. When I was at the clinic mine didn't have this and I was thinking "no ####ing way I can do this". Eventually fell asleep but thank god I found about exhale relief.

I hope it works out for you. Play around with the straps until it feels good for you. I can't be more pleased with mine.

Mine is 18 I think. I can't even use ramp or I feel like I'm suffocating. I have to turn mine on full throttle right away.

This just in from my personal dentist whom I consulted before proceeding with the advertised product. I'll paraphrase:

"We take an impression of the top... and we take an impression of the bottom. Then we connect them. This prevents your jaw - not your tongue but your jaw - from moving backwards, thereby keeping the airway open. What I have seen happen, over time, is this puts stress on those teeth used to anchor the jaw, and eventually results in the teeth moving and there is an (adverse) change in bite."

So she recommended trying the CPAP first.

You can put that one in your notebook, Dentist.

Interesting. Thanks to all.

I go to get my CPAP machine next Thursday, September 25. They say the prescription is written for me to get an oxygen concentrator with it. Do most people get the oxygen with their CPAP or am I just more screwed up than most?

Never heard of it. Mine doesn't have one.

Me either.

I finally went and got fitted for a dental appliance which will be ready next Thursday. I'll report back.

If it doesn't work out, be careful of the company providing the machine. They aren't especially cooperative and aren't too cool with the return and yearly maintenance fees. My wife had bad sinus/migraine problems and was prescribed one of these. Didn't help and she had problems using it.

I do have some friends that it has helped tremendously though.

I'm curious about the dental devices. I've tried to use 6 different masks with my CPAP machine (nose, full face, etc) and can never get one that won't leak while being somewhat comfortable. My wife says that I take it off within 10-15 minutes of falling asleep every night.

My nose mask fits great and doesn't leak but I can't keep air out of my mouth. My lips must still come open even with the chin strap tight. I'm thinking about taping my lips.

Same thing here. I had a stretch of a week or so where I woke up with the mask. I'm just so sick and tired of being sick and tired. There are a bunch of different brands of devices I'm told. We'll see,

I did the tape at first. Sure glad the chin strap worked to keep my mouth closed because I wasn't too thrilled with the tape. If I had to, though, I'd use tape because the nasal pillow masks are awesome.

I've had it for about 5 years now and haven't heard from them. I think it's mine.

I got mine last Thursday and love the thing. I feel SO much better in the morning it's silly. Particularly after drinking. It's a pain the ### getting in, particularly at first, but it has loosened up a bit since. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Which one did you get and how much was it?

I'll have to find the pamphlet or call tomorrow. The dentist said it was the best one on the market in his opinion. It would have been $600 but he gave me the like family discount and charged me $500.

I just got my machine 3 weeks ago... that ResMed Airfit P10 was the mask the guy set me up with. I have no complaint with it.

looks like i'll be getting one :porked: :blackdot:
Just be sure to try a lot of different masks if your first one isn't comfortable. Don't give up on it. Once you get the right mask, the right fit, and the right pressure, you'll sleep better than you ever have.

Good luck!

Jesus, people tape their lips closed while sleeping? Can't someone invent a device that takes care of the problem?

There's a Shark Tank idea right there. Design it, take it to the show and take Mr Wonderful's licensing deal (he WILL offer one). Instant rich.

I had tried the tape thing for a while. When I told the doc he said my pressure was incorrect. Now IF I put it on my mouth stays sealed by itself.

On another note I never use it. I am a side / stomach sleeper and I cannot for the life of me find a mask to work. The last one I think is the swift fx, but not 100% sure. It was leaps and bounds ahead of the others.

May need to dust off the ole pap and try it back out before I don't wake up.

Just started using the one with the nose pillows a week and a half ago, after being diagnosed with mild sleep apnea.  It's going okay.  I have gotten used to the mask/nose pillows, but it seems like every night now, I sleep for about 5 hours or so, wake up to pee (no matter if I don't drink anything for hours before bed or not), and then toss and turn for the remainder of the night sleep, never really getting back to sleep.  I still feel pretty tired.

Machine is set to 5, but I have kicked it up to 6 since most of the water is gone in the mornings (and the specialist said you should use only close to half of it).

Haven't had dry mouth, and my nose has been okay (using some stuff recommended by my specialist to alleviate any problems with that).

The good news is I seem to be getting REM sleep again because I am remembering remnants of dreams here and there, so that is good, I suppose.  Just need to find a way to stay asleep for the whole night.

Any suggestions??

Give it time. I still wake up sometimes and have trouble falling back asleep. I usually just take the mask off is I only gave a couple hours left.

You could also try a different mask or adjusting your straps. I find that sometimes is just seems the mask fits better and I get better sleep. Play around with it and see if you can get a little better fit.

Overall though, if you are dreaming again that's a good sign. You will get more and more used to it and sleep longer and better.

Just got one of these. I can't believe how much better I sleep now. And this machine has a cellular modem that sends data back to my doctor in case the machine needs to be adjusted, and to my phone so I can see how many events I'm having per night. Pretty cool technology.

http://www.techtimes.com/articles/175353/20160829/cpap-machines-do-not-reduce-heart-attack-stroke-risks-in-sleep-apnea-sufferers.htm

This sucks:

:sadbanana:

The findings revealed that although the use of the CPAP machine reduces daytime sleepiness plaguing sleep apnea patients - reducing anxiety and depression and boosting mood and work productivity -  the use of the CPAP machine does not appear to be helpful in reducing risk of heart attack and stroke in sleep apnea sufferers. -
Wtf

I snore terribly. I know I have sleep apnea because my wife says she hears me gasping some nights.I frequently wake up with a sore throat. That being said,  I am a tremendously light sleeper and I will sleep on my stomach. side, back so there is absolutely no way I could wear a mask and keep it on, let alone stay asleep. I don't know how you guys do it.

Yea you can. The apnea is making you a light sleeper. The cpap will help get you into a deep sleep.
