I don't think this is the part that is true.  But I'm not an expert.
A simple google search for “can you have sleep apnea without snoring” yields:

No, say the experts. “Most people who snore don't have obstructive sleep apnea, but most people who have apnea snore,” says Robert L. Owens, MD, of the Sleep Disorders Research Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston

What do the manly men's doctors have to say?

Help a newb out with a few questions?

1. My machine has a humidifier and I have it set on a pretty high setting. Still -- I am waking up in the middle of the night and the back of my throat is dry as ####. This is the #1 thing I am hating about this machine so far.

2. The mask doesn't bother me too much, but how are you guys managing the tubing? I feel like I'm in a snake wrestling contest every night.

3. The app for my machine says that my AHI number has consistently been in the 20s every night. I thought this machine was supposed to be helping. That high of a number doesn't seem like helping. Still don't know my sleep study number so maybe that is a help.

I found that when starting, I'd drink or smoke to the point I was ready to pass out and strap in. That seemed to get me used to it in a few days.

The hose is a pain. I use a longer one and run it up and over the top of my head.

Just ordered this:

Bluetooth Sleeping Eye Mask | Sleep Headphones, Joseche Wireless Bluetooth Headphones Music Travel Sleeping Headset 4.2 Bluetooth Handsfree Sleep Eye Shades Built-in Speakers Microphone Washable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F59HQRC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_dpMpDbA1YRZ82

Hoping I can wear it with the cpap mask. Something to help me drift off and focus on instead of cpap. Maybe throw the news on for 30 minutes or something. Cheap enough to try.

Bonus: I just checked and SiriusXM app has a sleep timer. Can't wait to try it.
So it has like five different parts that can break.

I set podcaster on my phone to 30 minutes and put it on the pillow by my head,

I know I'm totally doing this wrong, but I rinse mine out with hot water and wipe it down....at most once a week.
I bought a designated red bucket that I keep under my sink to clean mine. Do it once a week with dish soap and hot water. So much nicer after it's cleaned.

Also, my GF said I'm was still snoring. Particularly after heavy drinking. Thanks to YouTube I adjusted the pressure from 10 to 12 and now I don't snore any more.

You can get a sleeve that will go over your hose.  I then drape it over the headboard, so I don’t tangle up in it.

I may talk to your doctor on that.  May need the pressure adjusted.  Do the numbers show any leaks?

I've had a lot of trouble finding a decent/reliable mask supplier.

I found this deal the other day- $33 each, less than the deductible.  Good mask, one I've used before and usually paid #$100+

3.  That number seems high, and probably means the air pressure needs to be increased.  Mine was adjusted up once after consistently high numbers, and now I range from 3 - 6 AHI most days.

I've been reading a bit on these and there's one constant, it leaves a bad smell for days. What has your experience been?
There is a slight smell when the machine starts at night (if the mask is still in the bag since its treatment).  But i just let the machine run for 30 seconds and it seems to clear it out.  The only smell should be ozone which will disipate upon exposure.

so what do I do? Traveling for 5 nights and wont have access to distilled water. Can I use tap just for that time? But going to Florida, the water is normally much 'harder'.

Should I get a water tight bottle and pack distilled in my suitcase?

grrrr...this is a PIA

I just use bottled water when I travel.

I usually use bottled water if I have it, but tap water will be fine for a couple days.

I don't have that exact mask, but I have a similar one.  The seal under the nose is fine, but the opening to the nostrils can occasionally get a little misaligned and the mask can partially block air flow into the nostrils.  It can be a bit annoying when it happens, but not too big of a deal if you are a mouth breather (which you likely are if you are using the full mask).  The biggest negative with mine is that the width of the opening across the mouth is just slightly too narrow.  The mask overlaps the edges of my mouth.  I need to pucker my lips a little when putting it on so that my mouth is fully covered.    It took a little getting used to, but overall, I like wearing it better than the over nose variety I used to have...no red marks on the bridge of my nose is a plus!   Here is the one I use

I have hard tap water so I generally avoid using it in my CPAP.

Some googling says Distilled is the gold standard and Purified by Reverse Osmosis and De-Ionized waters are acceptable substitute.

I'd avoid bottled Spring water or Mineral water.
why? (only b/c I need to use bottled this week)

My doctor is switching me from a CPAP to a BiPap. I guess my problem is more central sleep apnea than obstructive. I'm not enthusiastic because I about suffocated when trying the BiPap during my sleep study.

Anybody make this switch?

Have not read the whole thread so forgive me if these questions are covered.

Last night, was my first night on the cpap machine. Wife said there was no snoring and I seemed more relaxed while sleeping (lots of tossing and turning typically).

I woke up about 3am (five hours sleep) and the mask was driving me nuts - sweaty, to tight, to lose, etc. I laid there for 45 minutes trying to fall back asleep and finally gave up and took the mask off. Wife said I snored the next two hours but not as bad as usual.

Two questions:

1. Will I get used to the mask? The part that bothered me most was the hot, sweaty feeling around my mouth and nose.

2. We chose the full face mask because my nose typically gets clogged up with snot while I am sleeping and I breathe through my mouth. BUT last night with the constant oxygen my nose stayed clear. I am thinking about asking to switch to the nose only mask. Thoughts?

Thanks for any input you can share!!

You will get used to the mask, of course it's going to be uncomfortable at first.  But you will adjust.

I have two masks, one for when my nose isn't stuffed, and the other the full mask for when my nose just won't clear. Usually the air flow will keep the sinuses open.  I wear the full mask maybe 5 times/year.

Do you have dehumidifier in the CPAP?

Heated hose?

I'm about 8 months in and I still have nights I'll wake up take it off and go back to sleep.

I'd say once every couple weeks or so

Dehumidifier - I put water in the machine...is that a dehumidifier?

I do not believe the hose is heated.

There should be a humidity setting and you'll want to tweak that the first few nights to find the right spot for you.  My setting range is 1-10 and I think I have it at 4 now.
This.  The water is added to the humidifier to put moisture into the air you breathe in.  A dehumidifier would has the opposite affect.  Anyway, there is a setting to adjust the humidity level.  You should be able to shut it off completely if you wish.  My machine has settings 1-5.  I max it out at 5.  I find if I am not on max humidity (or my water chamber runs dry), I wake up feeling like I have spent the day in the desert without water. I need the humidity.

I meant humidifier :bag:

I've had mine for a few months and I really can't fall asleep with it on without some help. So I got a pair of cheap wireless earbuds, and put on one of the sleep stories from the "Calm" app and that usually does the trick.

Get the nose pillow and give it a shot. I find the air flow keeps the nose clear and I have a nosetoriously stuffy beak.
