Craig Davis (SD) (1 Viewer)

does this guy have any value this year or next?
Yeah...seeing him on my roster reminds me not to buy into the staff generated hype in the offseason.
To be fair there was no indication SD was in the market for any WR, let alone one like C.Chambers that would step in as #1 WR for the next several seasons. That move is what killed Davis's value. With Parker's injury and Floyd dropping down the depth chart behind Naanee(which was a shock to me, this year at least) it would have seemed like a very good situation for Davis. I think SD expected more out of Davis or at least for him to be healthier than he has been or they wouldn't have waited to acquire a vet mid-season.

Is it just me or is talent more important than opportunity at the WR position? The arguments I bought into were based on opportunity moreso than talent now that I think about it.

All the rookie big hype WRs from the middle rounds have busted..save for possibly Laurent Robinsona) Mike Walkerb) Jacoby Jonesc) Steve Smithd) Craig BUSTER Davis

Not to turn this into AC, but being a Charger fan, does Davis hold any value in dynasty?
 SD fan here also. With Chambers and Vjax, Davis wont see the field anytime soon. Id hold on to him in a dynasty though

Davis really has no value at all at this point in redraft leagues. Chambers and Jackson are the starters, so Davis is at best the fifth option in the passing game. And that's, of course, when he's healthy, which he hasn't been.

Dynasty-wise, any first-round pick at a skill position has value until he proves otherwise.

James Jones :P Davis was a first round pick, but I don't think he warrants a spot right now. The Charger O reminds me of the Chiefs O under Vermeil in that they go to the TE and RB almost all the time. Having gone out and gotten Chambers, I think that shows they have little faith in Davis, and Jackson as well.

This year is a prime example of how you need to be very patient or weight opportunity much more than talent. I'm not sure Dwayne Bowe is any more talented than Davis or Meachem or Sidney Rice to name a few but Bowe went to KC, Kennison got hurt, and he quickly became a main option on that team. In dynasty it is much too early to write off Craig Davis. In redraft he should be on the waiver wire.

IIRC he made some plays in the preseason, including a long TD. Even early in the year, SD seemed intent on getting him some touches in space through little quick passes and reverses, which speaks to his potential. I liked what I saw of him at that point, seems to have a nice burst to go along with his top-end speed. Before the Chambers trade I thought he was a nice switch-up to SD's other big receivers; kind of like Mike Walker in JAX - a smaller (normal) sized WR to provide some quickness vs a bunch of 6'5" guys. He's solidly built for his height but had lingering injuries at LSU which seem to be following him in the pros.

I researched him a bit around Week 3 for dynasty; when Garrard won the JAX job I moved him for Roddy and a Rd 2, the other option was Buster straight up.

Davis is a hold candidate.

He'll eventually pass up VJackson (who's still a project WR) on the depth chart. May take Davis to year 3 though.

the problem with that is with gates, lt and now chambers they might be very content with Jacksons few catches and good blocking. They're not in a fantasy league.

Things change. Chargers may have to rely on the pass soon as Tomlinson creeps near 30.The value is to buy before everyone else sees the trend.
