Creed Bratton was in the band "The Grass Roots" (1 Viewer)

Has this been covered in here?  I had no idea.

My daughter got us on watching all of the old US "The Office" and I had forgotten how good this was.  Always loved Creed and looked him up.

Guy was in the Grass Roots for crying out loud.  Unbelievable.

Creed on left, main guy in opening shot.

Note:  I also haven't gotten to this episode yet either though.
Most fans of The Office knew this years ago but still very cool trivia.

I was about to say, yeah, it's in the show.

I mean, also, the fat guy from Fight Club was in the band Meat Loaf.
Meat Loaf sponsored my Little League team in Stamford, CT in 1980 or so.  You haven't lived until you've played ball in a jersey that just says "Meat Loaf" across the front.

Creed's guitar work shows up in a couple later episodes, too.  With all the mystery around Creed's past and present, it's hilarious watching the show put a true biographical detail from Creed the actor on Creed the character, yet seems too absurd to be real.

IMO Creed had the highest slugging percentage on The Office.  Usually only got 1-2 jokes per episode, but put like half of them in the bleachers.

Yeah, sorry, I am slow.

Meatloaf looked like Meatloaf in Fight Club and is famous and well known.  You wouldn't make that kind of direct connection with Creed

This is outstanding and I'm glad this thread gave the opportunity for this to be shared.  Was "Meat Loaf" in the same font as the lettering on "Bat Out Of Hell"?

No ####ing way is this real.
The story checks out.

Meat Loaf is a known roto baseball nut and a big Yankees fan.  He moved to Connecticut after he got married, lived there for years, and sponsored and/or coached several youth baseball and softball teams in CT.  Most of his charitable work and community service revolves around youth sports.

Yeah, I think he coached his daughter's softball teams. I grew up there and remember him in the papers a bunch.

I read somewhere that the creators of the show based the character on a well known real life 60's musician who had blown all his money (and most of his brain cells) on booze and drugs, and was now an office worker. They never named the person because they didn't want to embarrass him.

On this board, someone from New York who worked in finance said that the guy who sang "Melt With You" worked at brokerage firm, and would sing while he was standing at the copy machine. I can't recall who the poster was who said this, so if anyone recalls, please fill in the details.

No way I could photoshop that.

Meat was there the day of tryouts too...just remember a big fat guy with long hair sitting in a lawn chair watching.  Didn't really know who he was at the time. I like to think he personally drafted me for my abundance of skillz.

I've tried like six times and can't get that tinypic image to load on my phone browser so that I can witness the awesomeness.

Skipdog and rockaction, how old are you guys?  I also grew up in Stamford, maybe we know each other.  I was born in 1973.

I didn't play on Team Meatloaf because I think that team was in the "majors" right?  I sucked at baseball.  But at some baseball event my grandmother went up to Meatloaf to get an autograph and said something to him like "I hate your music but my granddaughter likes you so can you sign this for her?"

Stamford was a great spot for celebrity sightings back in the day due to the fact that the then-WWF was based there.  I would see Sgt. Slaughter's camo limosine all the time and other wrestlers around like the Iron Sheik, Captain Lou Albano, some others I can't remember.  Also Cindy Lauper.  And, unconnected to wrestling, Gene Wilder.  Bjorn Borg.  John Starks and a bunch of other Knicks.  I feel like there are a lot I'm forgetting.

I watched The Office with Cal over the winter and Creed was his favorite character.  They make more than a few references to him playing in The Grass Roots and I decided to Google it figuring it was just a goof.  We died laughing after seeing footage of him in, The Grass Roots.

Also of note, when I left for college my Dad gave a CD of, that's right, The Grass Roots.

I'm binging through The Office now for the first time.  It's pretty great.  Creed is definitely one of my favorites.

I was only a short-timer in Stamford.  Born in 1970, but lived in NY until I was 10.  In 1980 my dad got transferred to White Plains for a year or so, and we moved to Stamford.  Lived on Winesap Rd.  Moved back to NY in '81 or '82.

I dug Stamford though.  Stu Leonard's, lots of wooded areas in my neighborhood to explore as a 10 year old, and of course, Meat Loaf.

We just finished rewatching it recently. Still holds up very well and yes, Creed kills it whenever he's on. They used his character perfectly without overdoing it. One time he comes into the office with blood all over his shirt and was relieved to find that it was Halloween and everyone else was in costume. :lmao:

Creed is the best.

"The Taliban is the worst. Great heroin though"

Creed: "You know a human can live for hours after being decapitated"

Michael: You're thinking of a chicken"

Creed: "What did I say"

And when they were playing the murder mystery game and Michael accuses him of murder. He say he'll be right back and the next scene you see him screeching away in his car.

My favorite was during an off-site at Lake Scranton.  Creed in the background walking along the lakeshore, stabs one hand into the drink, and pulls out a fish almost as big as his arm.

Probably one of the best "poster delivers" moments in recent history.

"Meat Loaf sponsored my little league team"

"really?"

"yeah, check it out [posts awesome pic]"
When I was that age, my little league team was sponsored by a local car wash.  We weren't the cool kids who got our uniforms provided by a rock star or bail bondsman.

7th grade summer I was on a team that was sponsored by a local semi-truck brake service company.  The owner was the coach.  He actually put in a "sandlot" type of practice field behind his shop.  And had his own pitching machine and batting cage.

He moved his shop years ago but I drive by the empty lot every day on the way to work.

Whatever happened to 3rd kid from the left, top row?  You know, Dray'knargen, Destroyer of Worlds.
Don't know what he's doing now, but he came damn close to becoming my profile pic here.

that coach has the look of a guy who touched half the team "where they pee from".

Midnight Confessions and Temptation Eyes  are musts on any playlist from that timeframe.  Love'em.
