That's not entirely fair. Vince completed better than 60% of his passes last season and has a 2-year career average of over 57%. I'll agree that when he's off he looks really bad, but he hasn't been helped by the lack of quality around him. I think it's more accurate to look at this move as Crumpler being a good fit in Dinger's offense. He must have a thing about playing with running QB's who struggle passing.
Sounds like somebody's trying to pad their commission.
Vince doesn't have a long history of anything in the NFL. That said, a real quality TE can't be anything but good for VY, especially in Dinger's offense, and as a Titans fan I'm hopeful the deal will be completed and Crumpler will provide a real consistent underneath outlet for VY when the incumbent WRs don't get separation, which was all too often the case last season. We've probably got more question marks and legit needs than most teams that made the playoffs last season, at least on the offense side of the ball. Crumpler helps in that respect, at least in theory.ESPN News and NFL Network are saying 2-year deal is signed; for whatever that's worth.
If the deal is finalized, I don't know how Titans fans can't love it. VY has a long history of throwing to his TEs and Crumpler is better than Scaife and Troupe by a country mile (presuming he doesn't have this alleged degenerative knee condition).
Crumpler is definitely better than Scaife and Troupe but he is older and not the player he once was. Plus, if he does have the knee issue that some think he does, your "country mile" just got a whole lot shorter.ESPN News and NFL Network are saying 2-year deal is signed; for whatever that's worth. If the deal is finalized, I don't know how Titans fans can't love it. I think Crumpler's best days are behind himand never again will he get a sniff of "the top few TEs".I think Crumpler is better than we've seen lately and could move a little closer toward the top few TEs.
To be fair, outside of Stallworth and Moss, I'm not sure any of the FA WRs would have been worth the money. Guys like Jerry Porter, Bryant Johnson and Bernard Berrian don't excite me much...With the Titans doing virtually nothing to improve their WR situation, I think Crumpler could surprise on the upside this year. Kind of what Ben Troupe was thought to have brought to the table.
Agreed. It was more to the point that right now the team is going into the season with the same mediocre WR crew as last year, minus the injured (and disappointing) David Givens. That leaves a lot of opportunity to a proven guy like Crumpler, who has another mobile QB - but with more accuracy than Vick ever had.To be fair, outside of Stallworth and Moss, I'm not sure any of the FA WRs would have been worth the money. which other target would you throw to if you were Vince?I think Crumpler's best days are behind himand never again will he get a sniff of "the top few TEs".I think Crumpler is better than we've seen lately and could move a little closer toward the top few TEs.
Scaife is a restricted free agent and tendered as a 2nd rounder. Scaife should be a free agent, if not re-signed, in 2009. There is little chance a team gives a 2nd for Scaife. This would leave Alge as possibly the only TE in 2009.What happens to Scaife?
Scaife looked very solid at times last year. Some games showed good hard lead blocks and strong grabs in traffic. I wonder if given time and a regular weekly dose of opportunity, if he wouldn't be a very reliable TE.Scaife is a restricted free agent and tendered as a 2nd rounder. I'm hedging on the Titans alot. IF the WRs stink he's the only option.Gage was good in 07, it's hard to admit but he was; especially when we're talking about a QB that didn't throw for enough yards to make any FFer happy on a weekly basis.Roydell killed some teams that were lulled to sleep and not expecting the deep ball. He had some very nice games. If those two get better, Alge can play off them. The OC loves passes to the TEs maybe moreso than any other OC in football.I really think Alge's sittin' pretty right now.Agreed.
