Culpepper Injures Himself In A Bet (4 Viewers)

Following last Wednesday's practice at the Raiders' training facility in Alameda, starting quarterback Daunte Culpepper, still trying to fight his way back from the severe knee injury he suffered two years ago, bragged that he could beat halfback LaMont Jordan in a 100-yard sprint. This wasn't surprising to Culpepper's teammates, some of whom scoff at his penchant for extolling his own abilities in virtually every realm and sarcastically refer to him as "Top Five In the World."

Negotiations between Culpepper and Jordan ultimately broke down, and the quarterback instead ended up racing third-year cornerback Stanford Routt who, during his college days at Houston, finished third in the 200 meters at the 2003 NCAA outdoor meet. Even while starting from midfield and spotting the quarterback five yards, Routt lived up to his surname. "Stanford blew him away," one witness said. "And afterward, Daunte said something didn't feel right. Now, he's on the bench. Doesn't that say it all?"

Im not sure what the big deal is.

So he got hurt while running really hard and fast? What else should he be doing at practice? Stuff like this only gives me more ammunition on why teams of the past are better then teams of today.

I agree. So I guess he's not suppose to run at practice? Or he can run, but shouldn't run fast? IF, and it's a big IF, he hurt himself running a race, how is that any different than him hurting himself while pushing himself while running wind sprint? You ever hear a coach say during wind sprints, "Run, but don't run too fast. So kinda try and run but don't push it."? Football players run at football practice. If they are good football players, they try and run hard and fast at football practice. I don't see what the big deal is.

He won't make the top five in IQ.
No one has ever accused him of being smart.
Mr Wonderlic might disagree.Mark Brunell 22

Doesn't look all that dumb to me.

Culpepper, who was administered the test three times, had a high of 21 and a low of 15. Because of his academic struggles even to gain admittance to a four-year institution, some teams think the 15 is more realistic.

These two impress you with their smarts?
Marino was on the weed so it wasn't his fault.
What's his excuse now?

The guy is his own agent and compared himself to Gandhi. I cannot say anything about his IQ, but his commonsense is severely lacking.

Although he doesn't sound like the brightest guy in the world for various reasons getting injured while running on a practice field isn't really that big of a deal.

I'm surprised no one has played up the "fake injury" angle due to the loss. Reminds me of Michael Johnson racing against Donovan Bailey and pulling up lame after he started losing.
