Curtis Lofton (1 Viewer)

Mr. Know-It-All

Footballguy
Is he playing? Any insider info? All I heard was limited all week and check inactives prior to kickoff. After a monster week, now hurt. What happened?

He got hurt in the 1st half last week covering a punt return, a teammate rolled up on his leg. He went out for a bit, but was back in soon after, and had most of his tackles in the 2nd half.

No insider info here though, sorry. Waiting for the inactive list, too...

How did he look against the Redskins last week? All I saw was the boxscore. (5-3) Was he noticeably affected by the injury?

He wasn't as big a force as he normally is but it didn't appear to be down to injury, mainly with Jonathan Babineaux having a monster day for a Defensive Tackle so there really wasn't all that much for Lofton to do, and he didn't miss a snap.

Against Carolina, if they commit to running the ball you have to like Lofton to have a big day.

Babineaux went absolutely nuts and Kroy Biermann got some as well. Lofton just did his job. I could see him having a big week this week against Carolina.

Last week against Washington, I was starting both Lofton and DeCoud. The Redskins did nothing on offense and I think I had a combined 2 points from those two at halftime. The Redskins moved the ball better in the second half and Lofton made some plays. I'm going to chalk his low score all up to the Redskins not giving him enough opportunities. I expect big things today!

He wasn't Willis like yesterday - 4 tackles, not good as he has had less than solid #'s 3 weeks in a row....

Who would be better - Hawthorne or Lofton at this point?

I have Hawthorne now too, but didnt have to cut Lofton.

I usually start Lofton, but this week might bench for Hawthorne. Paul Poz is my other LB, and he is steady.

ATL is getting beaten by the pass now, so teams can/will throw more I guess.

This week is a good week to start Lofton - but I agree you need to play matchups if you have other very good LBs.Why this week? Giants will try to establish run with Jacobs and Bradshaw. Intermediate game to Boss. So far Lofton has part of all of that. Now, when Manningham, Smith and Nicks heat up he could fade - but the game plan for NY clearly favors involvement from Lofton.

This is comical , I dont think you could even try to go this long without a tackle even if u wanted to . last time I ever start this guy.

edit : wow , he is alive

It's his second year. 3 tackles now. A few games back Delmas was active and didn't play. At least Lofton has 3 tackles with time to go.

he didn't have a very good game this week, but I'd think the next couple playoff week's match-ups look good.

what do you say, jene?

or whoever...

I'd ask borbely, but looters probably stole his laptop.

Hey Gene,

Do we think he's kind of hitting a bit of a "rookie wall" even though it's his second year? He's cooled off considerably from the beginning of the season. I don't feel great about starting him the next couple of weeks....

he's been a little banged up lately, and his numbers have steadily decreased the last 4 weeks, so you might be right, but to be fair to the guy he did have 25 solos the previous 3 weeks.

I've yet to review the game, but I'm inclined to think it's a very ill-timed fluke for now. Of the highlights I've seen, I don't think the Falcons game planned Nicholas into the nickel packages ahead of Lofton. I think that's highly unlikely, but one possible explanation.

Of note, of the three other players with more than 80 solos entering today's games...

Patrick Willis has had four or fewer solos in 7 of 44 career games, and had a four solo game this year. Jon Beason has had games with one and three solos this season and one last year with two solos. James Laurinaitis has had one three solo game and two four solo games this year.

This is Lofton's second game with three solos this season and he's had another game with just four.

If anyone sees something other than the evil fake football gods pushing Lofton's variance button at the wrong time, let us know. I'll do the same after reviewing the game.

It really just was a fluke. I watched a good chunk of the game and Lofton looked healthy. His poor stat line is attributed to the fact that he was having some trouble getting off some blocks, much of the running plays weren't directed at him, and the scorekeeper was very conservative with assists. I think the Falcons had 4-5 as a team total and on a few occasions I though Lofton should have gotten an assist.

It was a bad matchup. Buffalo's among the fewest tackle opportunities in the league.
meh bad matchup or not , no 3 down MLB should post such ugly numbers , heck even if u go half speed ur good for at least 3 tackles . He has done this twice in 3 weeks , pretty ugly.

Bad Matchup doesn't mean posting 1 tackle
Of course not, and good matchup doesn't mean you post 10 tackles. However, it was the reason I benched him this week. You may not LIKE the reason, but looking at the matchup is as good a reason as any, and Jene's IDP matchup advice has helped me immensely this year.
