D-Day (1 Viewer)

Americans don't realize much of anything regarding WWII anymore.

What do you mean by the bolded? I know what the myth is but don't know how it relates to black dots here.
Myth of the clean Wehrmacht

ETA:

Calling all the other dots by the country names but the black dots Axis instead of Germany (there were no division size units from other powers in theater at that point.)

Holy crap!

In 1941, the Wehrmacht took 3,300,000 Soviet soldiers as prisoners of war. By February 1942, two million of these were dead. 600,000 were shot because of the Commissar Order. Most of the rest died from criminal mistreatment.

Listening to a great podcast that touches on this. About Russia and the systemic killing of pretty much everyone they ran into from 1916 to around 1960, their people and conquered countries. Pretty gruesome stuff but Darryl Cooper is a master story teller on par with Dan Carlin.

Sadly it appears only one veteran was present for D-Day commemorations yesterday. COVID restraints certainly played a large part but it does illustrate that most WW II veterans are in their 90's now. If you happen to run across one, shake his/her hand and listen if they feel so inclined to talk.

For real.  My 90+ year old grandfather used to wear his WW vet hat around and when someone stopped him he'd talk about it for a week.
