D Mason Going Forward (1 Viewer)

Thru 5 weeks, Mason is 10th in the NFL in targets despite playing in a rain game & 2 Balt blowouts where little passing was needed.

Mason is as solid a WR as there is, he just needs to score more. You will never get a zero from the guy. He is a lock for 6 catches in any game w/o monsoon-like conditions. He will continue to be among the leaders in targets & receptions, these factors alone warrant WR3 status.

I drafted him to be a WR2, but now he looks like a solid WR3 going forward. I am actually trying to trade him now, but would be comfortable w/ him as my WR3.

What is the pools general opinion about D Mason for the rest of the season? He looks to be a WR3 at the moment. Any chance that he has enough upside to be a WR2 or downside to be a WR4?

Wr3 is about right in my book. You gotta hope as a Mason owner that McNair doesn't have too many games like the ones against Denver. Then again, Mason had decent stats with Boller so...

Mason just isnt good enough to beat top corners and double teams in this offense- or at least the Ravens dont seem eager to find out. Oddly I think his best chance is for one of the other WRs to emerge as a bigger threat. Right now Mason isnt doing much but sucking up coverage. Against weak defenses he can have big games.

Is it fair to say that the pool thinks that he has limited at best upside but little downside from the way he's performed to date and that his value is most likely to remain as a WR3 given that he was as of week 5 #25 in targets and #10 in red zone targets?

I think the catches will be there (80 or so), but as with last year, the TDs look to be elusive. McNair doesn't seem to need to throw much, and when they're in the red zone, Heap seems to be the preferred target.

I'm seriously considering dropping him for Bryant Johnson. Right now he's my WR4 in a ppr league behind Jennings, Mushy, and Furrey. Who'd have ever guessed that heading into the season?

from the Baltimore Sun:

"Our offense is not playing, plain and simple," receiver Derrick Mason said. "It was evident in Game 1, Game 2, Game 3, Game 4 and very evident in Game 5. It's very, very disappointing and whoever tries to sugarcoat it, they don't need to be in this locker room - coaches included. If you try to sugarcoat it, you might as well be playing somewhere else and coaching somewhere else. It's a problem and we have to fix it somehow, someway."

I'm hoping so since I have him and McNair

I too am thinking of making the same move. He's moved from #3 to #4WR on my team behind Holt, Driver, and Galloway. I've been disappointed in his performance so far and think it may be time to start shopping.

He is right on target for his catches and yards from last year. He hasn't found the EZ yet. TDs come in bunches, and you never really know when he's about to go off. Unless you have another WR on your team on pace for 80 & 1000, Mason is a start at the WR3 position.

The first two games were a wash, as Baltimore jumped way out in front in both games (About 4-50 in each). In game three, he had 7-130+. Last night, in awful conditions, he had 3-45.

From this, worst case, you get 7-10 points (in ppr), but on a good day, 20-25 is definitely attainable.

I think moving forward, as Baltimore's schedule gets tougher (Car, NO, Cin) and McNair learns the offense, Mason's value will only increase.

Full disclosure, I start AJohnson, Jennings, and Mason each week.

I have him and McNair both, and may have to start both (I know I have to start Mason since Jennings and Wayne are on Bye's), But I think he will get better...

He usually comes on later in the year..

I wouldn't drop him yet.. This week at home he will go 8-105 TD
