Daily vs. season long fantasy legality (1 Viewer)

Isn't it true that many states allow wagering on daily fantasy sports, but not season long fantasy?   Does anybody know the rationale?

I didn’t know that there was a law concerning season-long fantasy.   If there are states that do ban it, it’s because they don’t know how to extort money from the leagues.

Those states listed don’t allow daily fantasy.  Nevada doesn’t allow it because they want FD, DK, and others to buy a full gaming license.  Not sure about the other states.  Arizona tribal lands are probably protecting their gaming licenses also.

aeason-long is allowed.  I’m not sure what the matchup contests are, it sounds like a form of proposition betting.  You can host your season long league on yahoo, no problem.

There are at least eight states that don't allow fantasy sports. If it's a local league you're setting up on MFL, I don't know it's a problem. But I know for certain that companies that run national season-long leagues, such as FFPC, won't allow you to sign up online if you're physically located in a state that prohibits fantasy sports.

You are not correct.  I live in one of those states and I can bet on daily fantasy sports on DraftKings and Fanduel.  It just will not let me play on yahoo sports season long fantasy by paying on the yahoo site directly.  I can work around it by using Leaguesafe yes, but I just find it odd they allow daily fantasy (which is more risky and addictive), but not season long.

I am in one of those states listed in the picture and I can bet daily fantasy on draft kings, but not paid season long on yahoo sports.  You explain to me the logic

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of logic it seems beyond collecting taxes. Our friends at the FFPC have been working on this for a while and there are still a handful of states where Season Long fantasy contests aren't allowed. Hopefully that'll change in the future but for now, it's where it is.

Very odd and I agree with your points.  Obviously the state must be getting a little cut of the DFS and not from the season long.

My initial reaction to seeing this thread was, "This doesn't belong in the PSF!"

Then after a couple seconds to process, I remembered that I am a moron.
