Jerry Jones was not going to let three-time Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams enter the final year of his contract.
The Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday agreed to terms with Williams on a four-year contract extension.
Terms were not disclosed, but the deal is reportedly worth $25.2 million, including $11.1 million guaranteed.
Williams would have been eligible to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2006 season.
But Jones, the Cowboys' owner, made sure that Williams was locked up for the long term. Jones did the same with Jason Witten, signing the two-time Pro Bowl tight end to a six-year deal 10 days ago.
Williams, who turns 26 later in the month, has been a starter for the Cowboys since being selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2002 draft. He has been named to the Pro Bowl each of the last three seasons.
One of the league's hardest hitting safeties, Williams has 401 tackles, 12 sacks and returned three interceptions for touchdowns in four years with the Cowboys.
