Dallas sending Tony Romo to NY Jets for Patrick Ramsey? (1 Viewer)

It really was only mentioned in passing, but was thrown out there as a possible scenario yesterday.

The scuttlebutt is that Dallas is starting Romo on Saturday night to "show him off" for teams interested in a trade. Why NY Jets would want to swap QB for QB, I don't know... either way, this is the rumor going around DFW at the moment.

I don't have any inside information on this rumor but it's worth noting that Jimmy Sexton is Parcells long time agent. And also Ramsey's agent.... :tinfoilhat: ;)J

Behind that line, that would be Ramsey's nightmare! ;) Interesting rumor. I always liked Patrick and have thought he could be a decent starter for someone in the right situation, something along the lines of Kerry Collins. However he's a milder version of David Carr in that the beating he took behind Spurrier's idea of pass protection ( ) seemed to make him jumpy, even after Gibbs put a lot of max protection into his schemes, and he was no longer decisive with the football.

Gibbs wasn't exactly patient with him, either. I think he has a whopping one start before being yanked for Brunell.

That was predictable from the standpoint of Gibbs' love for veteran QB's (a bias Parcells is known for too BTW), but if you watched last year's pre-season games Ramsey was doing the very things I was describing and looked very shaky while Brunell, who was obviously healed from 2004's nagging leg injury, was making reads and confidently zipping accurate passes all over the field. The difference was night and day. Someone needs to take the time to settle him down and get him back to basics. Gibbs couldn't stow him on the roster and devote a couple years to that project, and I think he had already concluded that it was too late for Ramsey on the Redskins because he drafted Campbell. The trouble is, I'm having difficulty imagining Parcells being any better in holding his hand and instilling confidence in him. I guess I go back to the question you asked initially: what sense does a swap make? Is it all about Ramsey having started (IIRC) 30+ games and Romo having started none (assuming the rumor is even true)? That's the only thing I can think of.

I think Ramsey will get cut just from reading the paper. I figure some in the Cowboys org could think that as well and so...why bother trading for him.

Cowboys prob is 3rd QB as Parcells doesn't seem to care for Henson. He does seem to like Romo

Only way this makes sense is if the Jets have already decided that they don't care for Bollinger or Ramsey. I suppose it's possible, but it is a little out of left field. Haven't heard anything about this here in NY.

NFL Sirius Radio was in Cowboys camp a few days ago. There was significant man-love for Romo from Gil Brandt as well as the Cowboys Front Office. There was even talk about Romo being the heir apparent. Unless those interviews were a smoke screen, I seriously doubt that a Romo trade would happen. Everyone absolutely despises Henson so I can see Ramsey possibly being the 3rd QB but I would imagine that his salary is too expensive for the 3rd QB. Ramsey being cut and Dallas picking him up would seem more reasonable.

I heard the love for Romo on a DC sportstalk station. They were interviewing Babe Laufenberg, apparently the sports director of a tv station in Dallas. He said that Parcells loves Romo, and that Romo has looked outstanding in camp, and then I swear I heard him say that Romo is competing to start this year. The hosts didn't follow up, so maybe I mis-heard the comment. With all the love down in Big D, I can't see Parcells dealing Romo for Ramsey.

This is total BS. I also heard the comment on the radio here on ESPN radio in DFW. The discussion was about Romo possibly winning the job over Bledsoe this season. The one announcer said he thought Romo would be showcased in the first pre-season game for trading purposes. He mentioned Romo for Ramsey just because Parcells had said one time last year that he really liked Ramsey. The announcer said this WAS NOT a rumor he heard from anyone or anywhere just something he alone was thinking off the top of his head.

I agree with both here, including moondawg. The Saints offered the Cowboys a second round pick in this years draft and they said no way. They are high on Romo and consider him to be the next J. Delhomme. I don't see this happening. The Cowboys are so hihg on Romo that they did not go out and get a vet QB and they could have.

joe just said they had the same agent, that's not total bs

The total BS comment was directed at this being a 'rumor' on the DFW radio. It was not directed at Joe's comment.

If the Cowboys wanted to trade Romo they would have already done it. A beat writer for the Dallas Morning News said it was not a rumor but fact that last year the Saints offered Dallas a third round pick for Romo and Dallas refused. I think a third round pick has higher value right now than Ramsey.

Bill likes Romo and just wants to see him work with the first team. If Dallas trades a QB on the team it's going to be Henson.

If this has any truth, Dallas may also be looking to unload a RB to the Jets as well for a very high draft pick...

Worth a thought at least... Parcells does like Barber a lot... any chance of him moving Jones to NY for a 1st round and a second day draft pick?

No. ;)

You bother trading for him because it's likely one of the 17 teams ahead of Dallas in waiver priority takes him before Dallas can. Trade for the guy you get him with 100% certainty.

Well right now, Ramsey's fourth on the Jets QB depth chart.

Of course, Vilma's at the bottom of the LB depth chart too. If Tony Banks was on the roster, he'd be the QB1, so I guess it's not worth much.

(Yes, Mangini has ordered his depth chart alphabetically.)

Listen to BigTex. Romo's not going anywhere. Certainly not for Ramsey. Dallas is looking to extend his contract, not trade him.

I understand the point you make(good thought BTW) but I don't think he's worth it. The Jets don't exactly have the most talented guys ahead of him

Althogh he hasn't played in a game. Romo is Dallas' most experienced backup.

Why would they trade him in the middle of Training camp for a guy who hasn't played in their system?

Future value? I don't think Tuna will be around THAT long...
