Dan Herron - RB - Colts
Dan Herron rushed 12 times for 56 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' Wild Card win over the Bengals, adding 10 catches for an additional 85 yards.
It was a charmed day on paper, but it's Herron's two fumbles the Colts' coaching staff will be talking about in the build up to the Divisional Round. Herron's first cough up came on a great play from Bengals CB Darqueze Dennard, but the second was the kind of soft loss that will drive a coach nuts. The good news is, Trent Richardson is so far in the doghouse that he appeared to play all of one snap. Herron was backed up by Zurlon Tipton. Herron got vanishingly-few reps after his second fumble, but is going to carry the mail against the Broncos. He'll just be on a short leash.

This. He does everything well. His blocking has been very good as well and he looks like a very good 3 down RB in this offense. This fumble looked unavoidable, but he put himself in the position to be benched if he kept fumbling. I wish he would stop fumbling, he could easily be a nice piece in a powerful offense.
I wouldn't even care if he was the second guy. He would still be useful fantasy wise. He catches passes well, he seems to be a good goal line back in limited use.This. He does everything well. The off season will be interesting especially around draft time in determining what the Colts really feel about Herron.
Coach Chuck Pagano had praise for Dan Herron following Sunday's win over the Bengals despite two fumbles.
The fumbles are easier to swallow because they didn't cost the Colts the game and because Herron was a huge part of the win. He racked up 141 total yards, 10 catches and a touchdown. "He's gaining confidence," Pagano said. "Obviously, there's some plays out there that he'd like to have back and you've got to clean up, but the guy's a playmaker. He can create when there's not much there." In other words, Herron is the anti-Trent Richardson. Expect Boom to be the clear-cut feature back again when the Colts travel to Denver Sunday.

Yeah, wait and see. I think it will be a pretty easy decision by preseason depending on what Indy does in the draft/FA.I can't figure out if I should keep j-stew or Herron for next year. Both will cost me the same. I guess wait and see approach is best.
Colts coach Chuck Pagano assured the Colts will "stay the course" with Dan Herron despite his two fumbles in the Wild Card Round.
Herron also lost two fumbles in the regular season. He is still by-far the Colts' best tailback option, however, and Pagano noted Monday that benching a running back for fumbling "might kill a guy's confidence." Rather, by sticking with him, the Colts are trying to increase Herron's confidence. Novel concept.

Every now and again, I get one right.I'm glad he's gotten his chance, as a Colts fan. He needs to continue and minimize the fumbles. He's been the best RB for the Colts since training camp from a purely performance perspective.
Good enough for this year. Not the long term answer. Just a guy who happens to play with an elite qb. Nothing special at all.Pretty good 1st half for Herron here. Thoughts?
I think he is good enough for them to not have to invest much in the position and address other needs.Good enough for this year. Not the long term answer. Just a guy who happens to play with an elite qb. Nothing special at all.Pretty good 1st half for Herron here. Thoughts?
I meant Denver last season. This year denver has a legit defense and can run the ball. Green Bay can't play any defense and neither does Indy who can't even run the ball. A loser formula for the playoffs is what Indy does on offense - I would bet any legit defense against them in the playoffs.
So let's see...you called out Green Bay, and they're now in the conference finals.So...do you think that the regular season rankings don't take into account how they are trending and how strong their defense is?Don't care about that fluff piece by whoever the hell that is. The fact you take an article that claims "rushing hardly matters" is laughable. Also, I don't care what their regualr season rankings are- what matters is what they are trending and how strong their defense is. Anyone with half a brain knows Indy will not make it to the SB.
The bolded statement is certainly sig-worthy if they do indeed make it. It's very easy to pick the field vs. any team...who do you actually think WILL make the SB?
Dan Herron rushed 10 times for 51 yards and caught two passes for 11 yards in Sunday's AFC Championship Game loss at New England.
Herron's two brutal drops early on really hurt the Colts, but they had no prayer of winning this game anyway. And they likely wouldn't have even been in this spot if it wasn't for Boom. He took over as the feature back when the playoffs hit, racking up 45-170-2 on the ground and 20-128-0 through the air in three games. This is a back that squeezes the most out of his talent, making him the anti-Trent Richardson. Herron will almost certainly face competition for the starting job this offseason, but he showed more than enough to get a long look from the coaches. It's a depth chart situation to monitor closely throughout the spring and summer.

Odds that the Colts grab someone new or even two/three new backs in the off-season is high, but that's par for the course in the NFL. I guess the question is how they acquire these RBs.B...b..b..but he is the future in Indy because I grabbed him off waivers.
I'd be surprised if they go to the skill positions in the first two/three rounds. They need help upfront in large quantities on both sides of the ball.In all seriousness, I think they draft a back they feel is tailored for their offense. Why invest in an aging vet (likely more expensive than any rookie they draft) if they could spend a second and grab a solid prospect? Abdullah comes to mind as a good fit here.
I agree with this. My guess is they pound the Line and either add a DB or Strong Safety.I'd be surprised if they go to the skill positions in the first two/three rounds. Please dear baby Jesus. All 8# of you in your swaddling clothes. Please make this happen!Maybe they can trade Pep Hamilton for Spiller.
#1 above is a reasonable opinion IMOSeems Im not the only one who feels Herron is backup quality.

Dan Herron - RB - Colts
(1) ESPN Colts reporter Mike Wells considers Dan Herron "more of a backup than starter" in the NFL.
(2) Herron handled himself very well as a feature back in the playoffs, touching the ball 65 times in three games. But he averaged just 3.77 YPC and was squeezing the most out of his natural talent.
(3)Coach Chuck Pagano admitted Monday that improving the run game is a priority for him this offseason.
(4) Herron will face plenty of competition for carries in 2015, possibly in the form of injury-risks Ahmad Bradshaw (free agent coming off broken leg) and Vick Ballard (coming off Achilles' tear).
(5) This is also a strong class for running backs in the draft.
Who?Isn't TRich #1?He is now the #1 RB on the colts, definitely worth a roster spot.
Agreed. The drop off to the rookie Josh Robinson this year in Indy has been such a blunder by that organization. Robinson should not be on a game day roster at this stage or perhaps ever, he should have been on their practice roster. He has missed multiple blocking assignment and is averaging 2.3 ypc. I get Herron was hurt, but he should be on Indy's roster and now backing up Gore.Always liked Boom, can catch, run, block. I realize it's a different player but he's a Pierre Thomas type, real pro, all around skills. The Colts lost something in cutting him loose, the dump off and screen has gone away.
Gore owners should grab him immediately, imo.A year later, the question remains, anything to see here?
That's putting it a bit lightly. He's been atrocious. 2.5 ypc the past 4 games on 83 carries. Scored the worst PFF grade for RBs in week 12.Gore owners should grab him immediately, imo.A year later, the question remains, anything to see here?
Otherwise...Boom's a decent lottery ticket, but probably low upside. Worth a stash, imo. If Gore gets misses time I'd expect Herron to produce similar to Gore, maybe slightly better since Gore has fallen off a bit lately.
The classic red herron.Boom could be a killer addition. Could be nothing.
