Dan Patrick Show (1 Viewer)

BTW - In the arguement...

Salisbury = Leinart

Irvin = Young
I would never have guessed that
Actually Irvin's arguement was that Young was better for NYJ right now because they have nobdy around...thus, Young's legs would help. He said Leinart needed the skilled players around him because he was more of JUST a passer. So, it wasn't a simple as one might thought it was going to be.

Irvin may have had better one-liners, but Salisbury CLEARLY won the argument when Irvin admitted that he would rather have Leinart three years from now.

The argument was about who would be a better QB for the Jets. Irvin said Young would be because he could make plays on his own if he was on a team without a lot of playmakers. He screwed himself when he admitted that Leinart was the guy who he would want three years from now.

Dan Patrick jumped in on Irvin when he just kept yelling and didn't realize that he had practically made Salisbury's argument for him.

And yes, they are both about the most annoying personalities amongst sports reporters/commentators.

i didn't hear the exchange, but it doesn't sound that much different that what has already taken place on many national radio/television sports shows...YELL LOUDER! no constructive criticism, no feedback, no points given, no compromises reached, little to no respect for the other person discussing the issue at hand or the people listening for that matter. i'll pass on the "crossfire" and jerry springer media approach that has now caught on full force in sports coverage as well. if i want to read/hear people ##### and moan at each other i'll go over to the FFA and click on one of Mr. Ham's threads :excited: :lmao:

when it comes to the draft i'll listen to mel kiper jr anyday. he knows his stuff and brings strong opinions without neglecting or dismissing contrarian viewpoints. the guy is a class act. listening to guys like sean and michael makes you realize how good he is at what he does (even if most of us are jealous that he has one of the coolest jobs on the planet...lol)

I find Kiper to be incredibly pretentious.
surprised by this...he seems like a humble guy imoi heard kiper on the radio for years when he did a weekend show on espn. he would always admit when he was wrong, gave credit to many others when it was deserved, but he would always tell you how he viewed players, teams, and situations without sounding like a homer or coming across as a know it all

SOunded like a good one. I am no fan of the steak, and it is nice to see Irvin knock him down a peg.

Love rome as a tough guy. what a doosh.

I normally like Salisbury but I hate when he talks down to John Clayton, who knows more about football than Salisbury by a long shot. Salisbury acts like he was hot stuff in the NFL but the guy was garbage. He should be glad people even realize he played in the NFL.

Irvin, loved him as a player, hate him on TV. He gets all excited and starts getting loud and half of the time I can't even understand what he is saying. The guy sucks and he takes away from the other commentators. Steve Young is about as exciting as paste but he knows his stuff and he delivers it well. I have almost stopped watching the countdown all together because of him. Tough to say as a Cowboys fan but it is the truth.

Bottom line, this kind of stuff keeps us entertained.  My favorite is still Jim Everett dumping the table on Jim Rome.  Classic.  Anyone have that clip?
Yes
That is such an awesome clip.
I love tennis-playing radio midgets telling NFL QB's that they're not tough. Credibility just drips off of that.
I'll give this to Rome, he had the balls to say it even if that means he got dumped on his head. The last couple of lines were comedy gold."I bet you don't call me Chris again"

"I bet I will .... Chris"
Give him nothing...you don't think he thought for a minute that let me get sucker punched and my ratings will go through the roof? The way Rome stood up and just allowed him to come at him, he took one for the team...errr...himself. No balls in that!
Didn't I read somwhere where that whole thing was staged?

Wow, I am cowboys fan and the opposite. I liked what he did for the 'boys, but really diliked him as a player. On TV he makes me laugh.

The show Mike did with Prime Time was gold, I need to see if I can get a copy of that one.

I did stop watching because of Irvin and it is too bad because countdown was part of my Sunday morning ritual. Obviously the masses must like him if ESPN renewed his contract.

I can't stand Irving. Of course thats the way he's gonna stand. Have you ever once seen him stand up for a white player over a black one? Never. He is probably the most racist commentator in the NFL. And on a different note, what does Irving know about being a QB. Salisbury knows much more about what it takes to be a QB in the NFL than some cocky WR.
This is a racist statement. There are a lot of people who think Young is better than Leinart who are white. Get a life and stop fishing. :thumbdown:

I have to weigh in on this one......one has to think that HOF (to-be) players like Irvin look down on former players like Salisbury. However, Irvin is garbage as an NFL analyst. I totally agree with the previous post..Irvin yells louder and takes the gangbanger approach to debating an issue. Salisbury should have used the crackpipe comment. Irvin takes the same approach with Steve Young on Countdown....except Young maintains his class.

We've talked about this one several times in the Shark Pool. Rome kept calling him "chris" because he had developed a little Kurt Warner syndrome. I guess Rome thought he was soft and had the right to push him. What Rome didn't factor in is he's just an annoying, egomaniacal sports talk punk and Everett was a pro football player, despite Rome thinking he was a "girly" QB. Everett would have waxed the floor with Rome. It was too bad they broke it up because I can't think of anyone I'd rather see getting extensive dental work done. I'm noy going to question any NFL player's manhood. I've even seen plenty of punters and kickers get after it on coverages. :thumbup: I wanna see a celeb boxing match between Rome and Everett. It'd make my year. :D :D

Irvin telling Salisbury that he had no idea about what it means to be on a winning team was classic too. Irvin definitely got the better of Salisbury in the pre-Leinart/Young argument. Salisbury says, "You may be a HOF player and I'm not...but I'm a HOF broadcaster and you're not." Irvin counters with, "Oh really? I just signed a new contract with ESPN. Want to compare?" Salisbury got owned. Fun to listen to.

[/quote

I think Salisbury is wack thinking he's a HOF broadcaster. He's one of several guys, Irvin included, I immediately tune out as soon as they open their big mouths. % chance Sean Dinglebury ends up in HOF as broadcaster = 0.000000000000001. But then again, I might be giving the guy too much credit.
