I'm still carrying Manning as starting DB with hope he could garner 500-700 return yards this season. It appears he’s lost the KR duty to Knox and he’s not making enough plays as a Safety to make him useful. I’m considering dropping him, but don’t have great handle on the guys who are available so far as who’s a mirage and who’s for real now…it’s been a while since I tried using a real starting DB at the position.
Assuming my strategy to play DBs who are KR/PR is now essentially dead, given there are just no reliable options who have both roles, I’m forced to look at real hitters who can accumulate point via defensive play alone.
I’ve got a few choices and a few thoughts:
Greg Toler- Doesn’t seem to have a track record
Michael Griffin: Seems he’s getting his nose near the ball an awful lot right now and making the plays; leaning this direction right now.
Roman Harper: With a rookie beside him, he’s helping in coverage more than hitting. Worth a shot longer term when the partner returns…but when will that happen.
TJ Ward: He’s going to be on the field a lot with the poor CLE offense and that means more ooportunity.
Brandon Flowers: Is he more name than game?
Considine: Seen a few posts about him here but don’t know a lot about him.
Can anyone offer suggestions on who might be my best bet moving forward as a playmaker DB?
