Danieal Manning (1 Viewer)

I'm still carrying Manning as starting DB with hope he could garner 500-700 return yards this season. It appears he’s lost the KR duty to Knox and he’s not making enough plays as a Safety to make him useful. I’m considering dropping him, but don’t have great handle on the guys who are available so far as who’s a mirage and who’s for real now…it’s been a while since I tried using a real starting DB at the position.

Assuming my strategy to play DBs who are KR/PR is now essentially dead, given there are just no reliable options who have both roles, I’m forced to look at real hitters who can accumulate point via defensive play alone.

I’ve got a few choices and a few thoughts:

Greg Toler- Doesn’t seem to have a track record

Michael Griffin: Seems he’s getting his nose near the ball an awful lot right now and making the plays; leaning this direction right now.

Roman Harper: With a rookie beside him, he’s helping in coverage more than hitting. Worth a shot longer term when the partner returns…but when will that happen.

TJ Ward: He’s going to be on the field a lot with the poor CLE offense and that means more ooportunity.

Brandon Flowers: Is he more name than game?

Considine: Seen a few posts about him here but don’t know a lot about him.

Can anyone offer suggestions on who might be my best bet moving forward as a playmaker DB?

Roman Harper for sure

He's the real deal. For fantasy purposes, I think he's a good play in CB required leagues, but not great for DB only leagues (teams will look to throw to the other Brandon (Carr), since I believe Flowers is working his way towards shut-down corner status. A 2010 Pro Bowl wouldn't surprise me...)

Manning took the opening kickoff 44 yards, iirc. Otherwise he looked good out there, but didn't do a lot of damage on the stat sheet. Does chicago play tampa-2? It seemed as though urlacher was covering a lot of the medium-deep middle in coverage, taking away chances from Manning.

i'm not convinced he's going to be starting much longer. del rio knows that the S's are one of the weaknesses of the defense. veteran S gerald alexander was signed last week. he might not be any better but played there last year but he surely knows that considine sucks. if they keep losing and the defense walked all over then i can see a shake up in personnel.

Yea, we get DB so anyone they throw away from loses some value. Heck, Revis is sitting out there, but who's throwing in his direction any time soon?

haha...I don't have any idea what the bears plans currently are, but if you're basing this on just the past game, or whatever, knox was splitting kr duty with him last year, if I remember right.I believe the beat writers had major wright penciled in to take the starting job from manning, but he got hurt, so I guess it remains to be seen who moves where between him, manning, and harris.

I don't know what will happen this year, but last year I believe revis was one target away from being the second most targeted cb in the nfl behind drc.

Hobbs is still doing KR duty and playing a decent number of snaps on defense. He was great first two weeks, and only dipped last week because he was playing JAX.
