Danish McDonalds Workers Earn $20 An Hour - Big Mac Costs... (1 Viewer)

The kiosks will be developed regardless. It's not like if they didn't raise the minimum wage, they wouldn't invent the kiosks. It will likely replace jobs, but the franchise owner above says he'll add jobs. ATMs probably reduced the number of bank teller positions overall, but there are still bank tellers.

My girlfriend works at A bank and it's happening there

Am I the only one who thinks that the people screaming for wage increases are going to price themselves out of jobs?

So was filling drinks.... but now that is automated. Why? Not because it is cool. I'll tell you that.
Partially for productivity reasons (a cashier can take an order in the time it takes to fill a drink cup) and in part because of repeated reports on the contamination of fast food ice when cups are filled by cashiers. One of the dirtiest things in the country is a dollar bill.  Absolutely filthy.  It's why cashiers don't handle food that's unwrapped and cooks don't handle money.

Never, ever get a drink at the drive-through if you can avoid it. Go inside and order and fill your own cup.

In order to fix the "ice scoop" issue, most fast food places went to machines that dispense ice and drinks.  And if you're doing that anyway, might as well up productivity by putting it in the dining room.

The drive is undeniably toward automation.  This will be exacerbated by labor cost shifts.  As I said - "prevalence."  It will undoubtedly be a stop-start process, but it will grow.

I used the kiosk at the McDonald's in Madrid airport last time I was there. tapped in my order, paid with CC, went to the counter, and a minute later they called my order number.

Pretty painless and certainly easier than trying to order in my still not perfect Spanish. Not sure what the minimum wage is in Spain though

The Bank of America I use has robo atm now. You web chat with a teller, someone presumably getting less than NYC money.
