i see the sack but it looks like it was a no play, they sacked him at the sea 47 then for the 3rd down play it was placed on the az 45, the same place where the 2nd down play started......if some one can find out something on this would mean a great deal to me....lost by2.96 and a sack is worth 3.00

My best guess is no sack due to the fact that Hasselbeck recovered and attempted a pass(incomplete). Normally, when sacked, the QB is down at the spot of the sack. On a sack where the ball is simply knocked out of the QB's hands, it is recovered and downed at the recovery spot or advanced by the recoverer.

Can it possibly make a difference if a pass is attempted? Isn't it still a sack regardless of what happens afterward? It is kinda like removing the reception if a lateral occurs on a completed pass, right? Is a forward pass the key here?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Jene?

:shrug:I think you're correct. A tackle, which a sack is by definition, would end the play. If the end of this particular play was an incomplete pass, there can be no tackle and no sack.
