Is your grandpa deaf?Never heard it. I might need to ask my grandpa if he can find it somewhere in his garage.
Dark Side of the Moon and OK Computer people should duke it out for the title of "Best of the Most Overrated"
I remember my grandfather telling me such sweet stories of when the album came out. Him and my grandma were just starting to date at the time and they would listen to it after getting ice cream for a nickel. Boy, they loved that album. He said they would dance the charleston to it almost every night. They were such a sweet couple. Two of the most influential albums of the last 50 years.
This is why we have ColdplayTwo of the most influential albums of the last 50 years.
Played in bands as a teenager and into my 20s. Took piano lessons for a few years growing up then switched to guitar in my early teens. While I mostly enjoyed classic rock and then current rock, I also had a rap phase somewhere in there, as most people did (I still listen on occasion today, mostly at the gym). Thought about music school for college, at the suggestion of my guitar teacher, but my parents wouldn’t have it. Studied jazz and classical guitar as electives for a couple semesters in college. It was in college and then law school that I fell in love with jazz. Now that’s probably what I listen to most for the past 20 years, followed by a mix of classic rock, modern/alt rock, blues. I listen to music for 2.5 hours a day during my commute and then in the background much of the rest of the day while I’m working; in addition to the 45-60mins in the gym (again, mostly just rap stuff there).Otis obviously scored himself a dime bag this week, started threads about the Doors and Dark Side.
I believe he is also a big GnR fan. I suspect minus the occasional days when he tokes up that he listens to very little music normally and I bet he sees it live at best once a year. Sure, his wife made him get tickets to see Billy Joel at MSG (and I dare you find a guy who puts on a better live show -Otis).
I personally enjoy the strong takes but it is coming from a guy that I suspect is very much a music novice.

You’re right, I don’t see live concerts much. Probably less than once a year. And I’m a huge GnR fan. I’m not a professional musician like BigBottom and don’t play my guitars nearly as often as I would like these days, but music is and always has been a pretty tremendous part of my life. I suspect more so than for your average person. These days I obsess over Kenny Burrell and Ron Carter and Miles and Wes, but I can appreciate the hell out of the Doors. And DSOTM is still the best album to ever grace your ears.
Good day sir.
Ill give you Ziggy but you had big whiffs on Joshua Tree and even Purple Rain (which is way better than Joshua Tree)Also Purple Rain and The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars
Kind of Blue #1I'd also nominate Kind of Blue, A Love Supreme and Giant Steps
Love Animals. Love Zeppelin. Still no.There are quite a few albums I'd put above DSOTM
If I had to start with the same band, I'd nominate Animals
But a slew of Led Zeppelin albums are better, how about Led Zep 1
Sticky Fingers
Electric Ladyland
Huge fan. But you can’t really compare these two genres. It’s like comparing pizza and ice cream.Kind of Blue #1
Ok.Huge fan. But you can’t really compare these two genres. It’s like comparing pizza and ice cream.
Dark Side of the Moon isn’t even the best album by the band that made it.Ill give you Ziggy but you had big whiffs on Joshua Tree and even Purple Rain (which is way better than Joshua Tree)
Maybe you should change the title.Huge fan. But you can’t really compare these two genres. It’s like comparing pizza and ice cream.
Exactly what did radiohead influence? Two of the most influential albums of the last 50 years.
Millenials and singing competition shows.Exactly what did radiohead influence?
All fun albums. Still no.Black Sabbath
Ride the Lightning
Rust In Peace
Diary of a Madman
this could go on all day even though I really like DSOTM
Both Zeppelin and Floyd are phenomenal bands, but it's like comparing apples to oranges. You could get into a transcendental space with Floyd, even without the psychedelics whereas Zeppelin might have been good to get a buzz on with, but didn't make you contemplate much. There are quite a few albums I'd put above DSOTM
If I had to start with the same band, I'd nominate Animals

This is it. It’s just a level of artistry above everything else, as a complete album, as music, as lyrics, as moods. It’s profound and powerful. When you sit and listen to the lyrics and the melodies it just hits you in the gut. It makes you reflect.I always find these kinds of threads so entertaining. It all just comes down to personal taste (and obviously everyone recognizes this despite the mostly tongue-in-cheek responses).
I'm a die-hard Led Zeppelin fan and could easily argue a few of their albums as best ever. Conversely, I'm not a die hard Floyd fan; I've only listened to Animals/Wish You Were Here a few times in their entirety and The Wall somewhat more. Yet I consider DSOTM to be the best ever. Like others, the only song I hate from it is "Money". The rest is gorgeous music, lyrically and sonically. I consider it art at a level that exceeds other fantastic music. That's just me, a layman compared to some of the true connoisseurs of music in here.
I love me some metal, but c'mon. This is what happens when you leave it to 'best album', and don't isolate a genre to discuss.Black Sabbath
Ride the Lightning
Rust In Peace
Diary of a Madman

This is how it's done.
Psychedelics aren't required to appreciate this album. They just gave you a different lens to appreciate it differently.I have roughly 150 albums that I consider better. But LSD was never a thing for me.
Great album, but definitely need some psychedelics to fully enjoy it. Ever listen to it while watching Ernest Goes to Camp with the sound down? Life-altering experience.
PreachPink Floyd is one of those strange bands for me. I know people love them and all, but to me they are just an awful boring band.
I just want to shoot myself when their music comes on.
No idea why. Just not the band for me.
