I don't see the "why" in trading Brown. he is not expensive and probably can step into the lead RB role(if McCoy is injured) with Sproles doing what he always does.I wonder if they end up trading Brown now and rolling with McCoy, Polk and Sproles?

Yeah and they just gave up a draft pick in a very-deeply talented draft. Many around the Eagles feel Brown could be on his way out, even before the Sproles trade.I don't see the "why" in trading Brown. he is not expensive and probably can step into the lead RB role(if McCoy is injured) with Sproles doing what he always does.I wonder if they end up trading Brown now and rolling with McCoy, Polk and Sproles?
Darren Sproles is on the move.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that the New Orleans Saints have traded the versatile running back to Philadelphia, according to a source familiar with the deal. The Eagles later confirmed the trade.
The Saints received the Eagles' fifth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, per Rapoport. The fifth-rounder in question is the pick Philadelphia received when they traded Isaac Sopoaga last year to the Patriots.
The Eagles take on the final year and $3.5 million remaining on Sproles' deal.
The move ends nearly two weeks of speculation about the future of Sproles, who has spent the last three seasons with in New Orleans. He now joins another dynamic offense in Philadelphia, where his skill-set as a pass-catcher out of the backfield should make him a perfect fit for Chip Kelly.
Sproles, 30, finished last season with 43 carries for 220 yards and 71 receptions for 604 yards. He had four total touchdowns. In addition to a prominent role on offense, Sproles will likely become the Eagles' return man -- a position that's been a trouble spot for the team in recent years.
The acquisition also allows Kelly to ease the workload of LeSean McCoy, the reigning NFL rushing champion who was second in the league with 890 snaps.
The Washington Redskins reportedly were also interested in Sproles, but the Eagles got the deal done. The defending NFC East champions just got better.

I believe Sproles is an ideal fit in @Eagles offense. He will make it hard for teams to use Cover 1 (man-free) because he owns LBs in space
Biggest winners are those that will get McCoy at a later draft position due to this.biggest winners are the Eagles/Foles, losers are McCoy / Sproles.
I don't know how this doesn't cut into touches. McCoy will still be a great option but will likely get fewer touches at the end of the day. I guess compared to Charles who lost 3/5 of his line, the impact to him among the top tier backs, is more of a negative than Sproles is to McCoy.Biggest winners are those that will get McCoy at a later draft position due to this.biggest winners are the Eagles/Foles, losers are McCoy / Sproles.
There's nothing "clear" about it right now.I dont think it increases any value for Sproles, but it keeps him at the same level he was at in NO instead of going to the Vikings or some mess like that to lower his value. The reason the Saints did not run a lot is because the short passes to Sproles are like runs. Not necessarily the same, but both can catch passes out of the backfield and are dangerous in space. Think it cuts into McCoy's reception totals for sure. Does it really increase anything for Sproles? The Eagles like to run the ball more than NO did. Might change a bit, but Sproles won't see many carries and would they take out McCoy on 3rd downs?McCoy and Sproles are same guy?Yeah I would think both kind of take a hit since they are the same type of guy. Obviously McCoy is the better rusher, but Sproles will eat into his receptions and vice versa.Sproles and McCoy owners both not happy at this news I would imagine.
McCoy 314/1607/9 and 52/539/2 5'11", 208
Sproles 53/220/2 and 71/604/2 and is 5'6", 190
I can see how you think they are the same guy.![]()
Sproles will do what he does and catch passes, McCoy will do that in a way lesser roll and still push for 300 carries. I would be happy if I am a Sproles owner not so much if you are a McCoy owner.
Source: Saints receive the 2014 5th round pick New England sent for Isaac Sopoaga in exchange for RB Sproles.
If they don't plan on using him to run or spell McCoy on 3rd downs, why did they trade a 5th for him? lol I dont understand some logic of some holding out hope this doesn't hurt McCoys value. It clearly does. DJax is hurt in this too as well as any other Eagles pass catcher.

. @DarrenSproles turns 31 in June but has only 919 career offensive touches, counting playoffs. 48 RBs have more since '05 (@sj39 2,840).
How far could McCoy fall? He's going to be a top 3 pick in most leagues anyway. Maybe Peterson goes 1.01 now? But he's getting older. Charles as you state has other issues, McCoy may lose touches but he's still more likely to finish in the top 5 than any other RB IMO.I don't know how this doesn't cut into touches. McCoy will still be a great option but will likely get fewer touches at the end of the day. Not to mention Reid's already said Charles may lose some touches to Davis this year. So yeah, Charles has his own issues. Of course Sproles will impact McCoy's numbers. To what degree? This trade impacts the entire Eagles offense. Do you think all of Sproles production will come at McCoy's expense? Of course not. Sproles was also picked up for the return game (widely speculated). The Eagles are loaded with offensive talent right now. No one knows how all the touches will shake out. But don't think McCoy isn't the most talented piece to the offense. He is and will continue to get the bulk of the work.I love all the McCoy supporting thinking a guy who has caught 70+ balls the past couple years is not going to eat into McCoys production. Do you think Chip Kelly cares about your fantasy team and if McCoy gets his stats? No, he wants to win and while McCoy is a stud, Sproles has electric ability and is a playmaker, no one here will change my mind of that no matter what stats they show. Stop with this lost a step stuff, because professional coaches agree he is still worth a draft pick when it was clear he was going to be released. Sproles will do the same thing he did when he was in New Orleans, McCoy will still be elite, but he will most certainly not be the #1 RB in fantasy. I see 30-40 catches for McCoy 60+ for Sproles and McCoy will still be the lead runner. Sproles will get more TDs then last year and Kelly is an expert at getting a lot of runners involved and producing a la Oregon.
I will never dispute that in any way, my point is simple Sproles will get his as he always has while McCoy will still be a beast. But McCoy will lose receptions and those are valuable points in PPR. Losing 20 catches is losing 20 points.Of course Sproles will impact McCoy's numbers. To what degree? This trade impacts the entire Eagles offense. He's never been the #1 RB in fantasy.McCoy will still be elite, but he will most certainly not be the #1 RB in fantasy.
True. But who knows, maybe he'll lose 20 catches but gain 3 TDs due to a more potent offense. We just don't know right now. Sproles is a nice addition to the Eagles, and they will definitely be fun to watch.I will never dispute that in any way, my point is simple Sproles will get his as he always has while McCoy will still be a beast. So, we should project McCoy's receptions at - what, say about similar to Pierre Thomas's ?I love all the McCoy supporting thinking a guy who has caught 70+ balls the past couple years is not going to eat into McCoys production. Sproles will do the same thing he did when he was in New Orleans,
agreed...it's more like the gap closes a bit with those underneath him.How far could McCoy fall? He's going to be a top 3 pick in most leagues anyway. Maybe Peterson goes 1.01 now? Comparing production of the Saints backfield to the Eagles is mixing philosophies. I am looking at the type of player they gained in Sproles and what his skill set is and the logic that maybe they don't want McCoy handling it 366 times. Saints did a lot of screens and use the screen game as a run game. You may see more of that in Philly but simple logic says getting a guy at thr RB position who catches a lot of passes may have an impact on a guy who handles the pigskin almost 375 times. So, we should project McCoy's receptions at - what, say about similar to Pierre Thomas's ?I love all the McCoy supporting thinking a guy who has caught 70+ balls the past couple years is not going to eat into McCoys production. Sproles will do the same thing he did when he was in New Orleans,
*looks up PT 2013 reception total*So, we should project McCoy's receptions at - what, say about similar to Pierre Thomas's ?
Now look up how many carries he had and you will see my point on team philosophy.*looks up PT 2013 reception total*So, we should project McCoy's receptions at - what, say about similar to Pierre Thomas's ?
I see what you did there. . .

I don't think Sproles will eat into McCoy's rushing touches. If anything, he'll take away Bryce Brown's carries. Sproles isn't really a great rushing threat.False Start said:I love all the McCoy supporting thinking a guy who has caught 70+ balls the past couple years is not going to eat into McCoys production. Darren Sproles' new three-year contract with the Eagles is worth $10.5 million.
It's identical to the contracts recently signed by Shonn Greene, Donald Brown and Toby Gerhart. The problem is that Sproles is by far the oldest member of that group, as he'll turn 31 in June. Still, it's a significant pact, suggesting coach Chip Kelly has a clear-cut role planned for his new toy.

People can clearly read the chain of comments/discussion. How many "lols" I supposedly posted (I see none, but you are in your own world anyways) and who is clearly being the instigator. Thanks for jumping in with your witty "He does, obviously" then tell me how I'm the instigator.
I agree, but think Brown or Polk get the ship out of town after what they gave to Sproles. Sproles is clearly the #2 now.Buy low on all 3; McCoy, Brown, Sproles.
I didn't really think about Polk, but you could be right. Polk and Brown have too much potential to be fine sitting behind 3 other guys for 2-3 years. Philly could get a the 5th they paid for Sproles back by moving Brown; right?I agree, but think Brown or Polk get the ship out of town after what they gave to Sproles. If not more since he is a tad bit younger and the dudes with youth and upside always seem to net more.I didn't really think about Polk, but you could be right. If by #2 you mean 2nd most valuable, then yes. If you mean #2 as in "guy who will get McCoy's touches if he gets hurt," then no. Sproles is unique, and his role will be, too. He won't be asked to handle a significant number of carries no matter what happens.I agree, but think Brown or Polk get the ship out of town after what they gave to Sproles. McCoy and Sproles are same guy?
McCoy 314/1607/9 and 52/539/2 5'11", 208
Sproles 53/220/2 and 71/604/2 and is 5'6", 190
I can see how you think they are the same guy.![]()
Sproles will do what he does and catch passes, McCoy will do that in a way lesser roll and still push for 300 carries. I would be happy if I am a Sproles owner not so much if you are a McCoy owner.
Source: Saints receive the 2014 5th round pick New England sent for Isaac Sopoaga in exchange for RB Sproles.
Yes they traded a pick for a perennial PPR beast to have him just come in to spell McCoy. Maybe they are trying to lighten the load a bit for him. I expect a lot of two back sets on passing downs. Wait, but Sproles lost a step. So much so someone just traded for him. a lot of McCoy owners are going to be in denial about what Sproles can do for a while.

Since 2009, Darren Sproles ranks 1st among RBs in rec yards & TD catches & ties for 1st in receptions
I dont think it increases any value for Sproles, but it keeps him at the same level he was at in NO instead of going to the Vikings or some mess like that to lower his value. The reason the Saints did not run a lot is because the short passes to Sproles are like runs.

Again, extremely ironic considering how absurd most of your "analysis" is, like the gem about Sproles putting up the same numbers last year besides TDs so he obviously hasn't lost a step.False Start said:I love all the McCoy supporting thinking a guy who has caught 70+ balls the past couple years is not going to eat into McCoys production. Sproles will do the same thing he did when he was in New Orleans, McCoy will still be elite, but he will most likely not be the #1 RB in fantasy. I see 30-40 catches for McCoy 60+ for Sproles and McCoy will still be the lead runner. Sproles will get more TDs then last year and Kelly is an expert at getting a lot of runners involved and producing a la Oregon.
McCoy 285/1400/8 and 35/290/2
Sproles 60/290/2 and 65/700/6
I like both runners at that production.
I wouldn't call him a #2. They will be on the field together with some nice Chip Kelly formations/schemes-which also means that just because he gets a reception doesn't necessarily mean that McCoy loses one. That offense is going to be scary.False Start said:I agree, but think Brown or Polk get the ship out of town after what they gave to Sproles.
