Reading the comments from Del Rio on the Jags website, this wasn't a salary move, and he won't be re-signing. JDR said they wanted to give Garrard every opportunity to earn the job but at the end of the day, he just didn't.
sounds like spin to me. why wait until now to make the move if it wasn't salary-driven?
Because they didn't want Garrard to sign somewhere that could hurt them. I honestly don't see this as a huge surprise. The TIMING makes it surprising, but let's not forget several people close to the team, including Charlie Bernstein at Scout.com, said McCown could get the starting nod and Garrard his release as far back as late April, early May.It seemed like headline grabbing at the time, admittedly, but this was a case where the fire followed the smoke.I just think it's kind of funny that people were actually counting on Garrard to help their fantasy teams this year. In 16-team leagues, I get it, but in 10- and 12-team leagues, he shouldn't have been rostered in the first place.
