***David Wilson Bandwagon*** (2 Viewers)

I don't get the '3rd down = Andre Brown' default it looks like we're going to see. Wouldn't Wilson be better for draws/screens?

Be patient. Wilson is playing at a level right now where it will be tough to take him off the field. You'll be seeing less and less of Brown with every game.

agreed, and yes they need to start throwin the ball to wilson more..... there is no reason Wilson shouldn't catch at least 40 balls this year and maybe more.

Yeah, I mean Bradshaw averaged about 45 receptions. Wilson is a far superior threat from the backfield as a receiver than Bradshaw was... and Eli has been quoted saying they expect Wilson to be a part of the passing game. I've been saying in every Wilson thread this offseason I see him getting around 250+ carries and 40+ receptions.

Brown injured, right leg it would seem. The injury wasn't obvious on the play, however.
Limping pretty good off the field back to the locker room.
I was literally just watching the game with my roommate during the 2nd quarter after they benched Nassib going "It's weird that Brown's still out on the field. They already took Nassib out for Carr. Wouldn't you think Andre Brown being a important part of their gameplan is more important than Nassib? And shouldn't be in the game risking injury considering he already has such a bad history of injury."

I'm torn though, as a Giant fan this made me say things along the lines of "#!*%" or "$%*@" but as a Wilson owner in my most recent redraft I'm like "BIG TIME BUMP WILSON IF IT'S SERIOUS"

Andre Brown limped off the field in the third quarter of the Giants' preseason finale with an apparent left ankle injury.
It's the same leg in which Brown fractured his fibula last season. Brown made his way off the field and into the locker room under his own power, but noticeably limped and has long had a significant injury history. He was even injury prone at North Carolina State. The Giants' opener is just ten days away.
As someone who was planning on being able to snag Wilson as my RB2 this Sunday, I'm not so confident I'll be able to anymore.

Anyone who was looking at the Wilson & Brown situation as "Wilson is downgraded unless Brown gets hurt" as opposed to "Wilson will be an elite RB1 when Brown gets hurt" was kidding themselves. It was all but a guarantee Brown would go down at some point. Even if this is just a small sprain, it'll happen. Probably before Week 8.

Also in terms of Wilson's production... preseason totals come to

24 carries, 179 yards, 7.46 YPC, 1 TD

7 receptions, 31 yards 4.42 YPR, 0 TDs

EDIT: By comparison here are Andre Brown's totals...

27 carries, 103 yards, 3.81 YPC, 0 TDs

2 receptions, 13 yards, 6.5 YPR, 0 TDs

Also note: A good portion of Brown's carries (every single one of his 8 tonight) came with the first team offensive line vs 2nd team defenses. All of Wilson's carries were vs first team defenses. There's no competition here people.

Kids a freak... as an owner and a fan I can't wait for the season to start. It's going to be a special season watching Wilson every game.

Agreed, I wasn't really factoring Brown into my decision to lean on him. At this point, I'm going to be banking on name value, or lack thereof. I've watched a good amount of tape on him, especially from last year and I came away thinking that he would be able to consistently produce at a high level if given the opportunity. He boasts a great combination of well, everything. He has good speed, vision, is deceivingly powerful and etc. The only thing he lacks is experience.

Fracture. David Wilson is an RB1 now.

Hate to see it happen this way, but no doubt about it anymore.
Wait... is this confirmed by sideline reporters? Or was Lusus just messing around?

Nevermind

Andre Brown - RB - Giants

Andre Brown suffered a fractured left leg in the Giants' preseason finale Thursday night.

Aug 29 - 9:39 PM
Bah, that sound you hear is Wilson shooting up draft boards.
If Brown's healthy or not, even a tweak makes Wilson shoot up draft boards. If Brown is slated to miss the first few games? Wilson's stock should bump to like high 2nd round in my opinion.

In the fourth game of the preseason, every team hopes most of all to avoid any significant injuries. The New York Giants were not that lucky.

Giants running back Andre Brown suffered a broken leg in the second quarter of the Giants’ preseason finale against the Patriots, the team has announced.

Brown suffered the injury when he was tackled late in the second quarter. Giants coach Tom Coughlin will surely face plenty of questions about why Brown was still in the game at that point.

The Giants expected Brown to play an important role in their offense this year, splitting time with David Wilson at running back. Losing Brown at the end of the preseason is a significant blow.

Da'Rell Scott a preemptive pickup?
Nobody else has much value in redraft yet, but Ryan Torain or possibly Michael Cox would be my targets over Scott.

Wow. I now put Wilson in the MJD/Ridley area of my cheat sheet. Around #12
Honestly, I'd say he to right outside the Top 10 now. Depending on how long this sidelines Brown he's a serious threat for Top 3 production without Brown threatening to steal 3rd down carries and goal line work anymore.

Also note: It's very possible that the Giants reach out to a veteran tomorrow. Some notable names out there are McGahee and Jacobs. Obviously they wouldn't play as large a role as Brown would have... but I think they're likely to sign one of them for insurance and change of pace.

The thing about Brown is that history tells us he's all but certain to get injured at some point this season for an extended period, like he has in every single one of his prior 4 NFL seasons. So even if Andre Brown starts the season as the 3rd down back and goal line back, Wilson's all but assuredly going to get an opportunity to be the team's bell cow back at some point in this season, only question is whether or not he takes full advantage of the opportunity.
The brain trust of the SP is absolutely adamant that there is no such thing as being injury prone though. So Andre Brown, Hakeem Nicks, Miles Austin, Darren McFadden, Ryan Mathews...these guys are no more prone to injury than, say Chris Johnson or Roddy White.

It's football ... They are all prone to injury. Was Stevie Brown injury prone? Is he now?
:coffee:

Well, I agree (check the teams in my signature ;-)), but now his draft position will reflect it. Can't get him in early-mid 3rd anymore.

Also Michael Turner and Tim Hightower.

Rule on FA pickups - if you do it after season begins, contract no longer guaranteed? What's the timing on when that occurs?

I like Cox as Andre Brown insurance when he was drafted. Michael Turner would make some sense.

Yeah, I had a theory all off-season that the Giants might reach out to Brandon Jacobs though. It really makes a lot of sense now to be honest.

- Knows the system

- Would cost nothing

- Is quote as dying to be a Giant again earlier in the offseason

- He'd be no more or less productive than someone like Turner who clearly has no gas left

Take a bow.

The real question here is I'm interested in seeing where Dodd's projections go on Wilson...

Right now he has him at: 220 carries, 990 yards, 6 TDs | 17 receptions, 133 yards, 1 TD

How large of a bump are we talking with Brown out of the picture?

275 carries, 1200 yards, 9 TDs sound about right as a floor projection now?

GD it. I was targeting Wilson at 3.10 in my $$ draft next week. No chance now.
Yeah I reached for him in my big $$$ league the Sunday after PreWeek2 and everyone was laughing when I drafted him. I look like a friggin genius right now. He's probably going to cost a high to mid 2nd round pick now.

Just heard on ESPN, Brown broke his leg again. I am late to the party. Feel bad for the guy he just can't stay healthy

Was he going to make it to 3.10 anyway? And, speaking from someone at the 1.12/2.1 turn, adjustments in draft plans are being considered. Strongly.

I know, right?

It's amazing the lengths people go to to convince themselves that every player is equally prone to injury

If you guys think losing Brown HELPS Wilson, you seriously need to evaluate your knowledge of the game.

EDIT: Or theory, at least.

HAHAHAHHAHA... wait wait, okay. I'm done now I'll make an actual post.

You've been in every single Wilson thread talking about how Brown was to big a threat to him for him to be as fantasy relevant as people are thinking he'll be. NOW Brown is completely out of the picture for probably 4-6 weeks (or something along those lines) and somehow this hurts Wilson? Make up your mind dude, quit hating on a player just to hate.

Sucks. Drafted Brown. He was going to have a role no matter what the Wilson lovers say. And Wilson won't be the short yardage back anyway.

They'll replace Brown. The 'help' comes in crucial situations where they may opt for Wilson instead of Brown's backup, now.

Better listen to him. He informed us in the FFA that he's a future NFL scout.
