Dazed & Confused (1 Viewer)

"Hey, man. You got some weed on you?"

"No, sorry."

"It would be a lot better if you did."
It's a quote from the movie.
Wooderson: Say, man, you got a joint?

Mitch: No, not on me, man.

Wooderson: It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Is this from some quasi-TV safe version of the movie? Copeman has it right.

Also classic. :lmao:

Love this movie.
I think this is one of those rare movies where just about everyone loves. I'm sure there are those that don't like it, but I've yet to encounter anyone.
:bag:
No :bag: necessary. It's long and boring.
remember not liking the characters and thinking there were so many better HS movies out there at the time.
No movie came closer to approximating my high school experience as did Dazed and Confused.

One decade off but from the cliques to the moon tower party (we did it on the golf course) - albeit a bit less hazing - it was really spot on for the overall realistic "all American" high school experience. At least mine

I guess I probably saw more of what I knew in HS in movies like fast times or related more to the geeks in john hughes movies.

As I see it, most of the other teenage movies were more of a caricature of the teen / high school experience with more hyperbole than DandC. I remember watching the first time sorta nervous as the movie moved through the night because I assumed "something" bad and overly dramatic had to happen. Which character would be killed in a drunk driving accident or something. What big lesson would be taught.

But in the end, the lesson was hey, this is what kids do in high school and on a weekend night and it's all good - and while it amounts to nothing special, that's why it resonated so much, because the normal great high school night is not some huge lesson, it's just a good party and friends and go home. Eventually.

Plus you had the nerds and the jocks and all in this film, I thought pretty accurately depicted without needless melodrama and overly dramatic Hollywood bs

But Wooderson was in it.

The only place I've seen high school portrayed more accurately was Freaks and Geeks. As far movies go, DaC is #1.

I kept expecting something to happen as well. I can identify with the characters in Fast Times and Breakfast Club, but this reminded me of weekends in high school.

This predates me a few years as Bicentennial summer was between 6th and 7th grade for me, but the clothes, the cars, the hairstyles and the music were spot on.

Cars loaded with guys cruising looking for cars loaded with girls; a drive in burger place; parties abandoned due to last minute parent discovery; a place where kids that looked like kids could walk in and buy alcohol; an out of the way place for impromptu parties (the airport, alongside a runway.) We also had hazing of freshman, but it was during school and involved putting them in big plastic barrels and rolling them down the hill behind the school.

All of this is what makes this such a great movie for me. My wife, who I went to high school with, doesn't like the movie. There's no plot.

Kind of like HS.

As much as I like D&C, it doesn't come close to depicting the awkwardness and social status differences in F&G. Really one of a kind.

Yea, that was the one thing that bugged me in D&C - everybody prettymuch got along. Plus, at least where I went to school, the guys on the football team weren't also the stoners.

That's a fair point. It reminds me if senior year however, as many of those barriers seemed to come down a bit as compared to earlier years... And there were nights where there was some big party and everyone seemed to get along. But day to day you have a point.

It still feels like a great high school weekend more than any other film I've seen.

That's exactly why it was special.

I guess maybe my dislike had a pang of jealousy since my HS weekends resembled nothing in this movie. :kicksrock:

Good point, towards the end people start understanding that everything in high school is BS.
